About Legal Sea Foods - 7th Street

The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. A bipartisan favorite, we have occupied the nation’s capital since 1995, anchored across from the Verizon Center and around the corner from the International Spy Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Chinatown.

Make waves at our racetrack-shaped bar or sup on seafood underneath the hull-like ceiling in our restaurant’s main dining room. Either way, be presidential and order a cup of our New England Clam Chowder; it’s been served at every Inauguration since 1981. Other accolades include being named “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” in a nationwide poll by USA Today (2013).

Very good service of the waiter, never disappointing, and good value for the quality, ingredients and quantity of the food.

Service was decent but beware of tables that have traffic access because your chair will be endlessly bumped by servers and patrons. The quality of food at legal has declined as well over time with many of their seafood items originating from lesser desirable locales. Any seafood restaurant that does not provide detail about the source of their fish and shellfish should be given careful consideration. While we have been pretty regular diners, I am not sure we will be returning. Even our regular servers and familiar faces no longer seem to be among those present at Legal.

My boyfriend and I chose to celebrate our anniversary here on Sunday, Siedde was our server and was excellent! I truly enjoy it when people take passion in what they do, he was knowledgeable, kind, and attentive. I ordered a glass of white wine at his suggestion $9, I typically prefer reds but was having the crab cakes. The wine came out too warm, Siedde informed the manager Mike and he came right over. Mike explained why the wine could be warm and opened and chilled a new bottle for me, now that is excellent customer service! Mike and Sidde make a great team. The food came out quickly and was tasty, my crab cakes were Maryland style! Nice restaurant excellent service we will return.

Went after a Sunday afternoon Caps game. Even though they seemed to be slammed with a lot of people coming at once, they handled the crowd very well.

Enjoyed the Mahi Special. Rolls were delicious

Excellent service at our special event family dinner. Our waiter went the extra mile to provide high quality and mindful service to accommodate one in our party who required a gluten-free and dairy-free meal. Legal Seafood is excellent for gluten-free needs, and offers tasty gluten-free and dairy-free bread rolls.
Due to the unusual arctic weather which provided a cold draft each time the door opened, it was chilly at our table, so come in warm clothes if the weather is crazy cold.

Pecan Crusted Snapper was awesome! Also had Calamari and Bananas Foster which were excellent! Right across street from Capital One Arena and stop there with my son before a Wizards game. Everything was perfect!

Mediocre. We’ve been to the location in Boston which much much higher scale and better food. Our meals were nothing creative. There are better restaurants than this in DC. What a waste.

Great location for casual meal after attending event at Cap One Arena. Menu was appealing with many great sounding items in all categories. Traditional dishes as opposed to trendy. Small but good draft beer selection. Mahi mahi special was flavorful & generous. Others in my group had crab cakes & cream of crab soup which were also excellent.

The service and attentiveness was excellent. My wife ordered the steak and lobster and the food was not hot upon presentation. The drawn butter for the lobster was not hot. The snapper with shangdong sauce was wonderful and would highly recommend it.

Legal Seafood is great. We went before a Capital's game and truly enjoyed ourselves. We particularly like the Pow Pow Cauliflower and the Mojito was wonderful. I had the crab cakes and my husband had the catfish. It made for a great evening.

My husband and I visited Legal Seafood prior to a Capitals game. We ordered a bottle of wine, which our server came back to tell us was not in stock. Another employee came to the table to show us a similar wine that he recommended. Because I didn't want him to all of the sudden recommend something that would be $100/bottle, I asked for the price. He said he would have to check. He should've known this info prior to coming to our table. Apparently, the wine wasn't even in their system. He spent so much time trying to look it up, we said "nevermind". Our server recommended a very good wine similar in price to the original one we ordered. I ordered the chef recommended dish that included three different types of fish- swordfish, tuna, and salmon. The fish was "ok" at best. It was well done, and was over seasoned. It tasted like something I would expect from Red Lobster. Portions were plentiful, but for the quality of what we received, this was extremely overpriced. Also, the kitchen workers were shouting various things, making for a noisy dinner at times.

My food was delivered warm rather than hot..and when my server found out that the meal was not outstanding or acceptable offered to provide a new Hot dinner all with a smile. Legal seafood's manager subsequently visited my table and inquired about the meal and if I was enjoying the food. .He later offered to "comp" the food. Very professional and personal attention provided by the management. .I would highly recommend this restaurant for service and attention to its customers. .

Hit and miss. Some dishes good others all right. Table next to us had awful service. They told us about it and the waiter freaked. He told us that the customer should have never said anything to us. Quite surprised that it was his responsibility to tell us what to think and who we should listen to. Did offer is a free desert at the end. Nice gesture.

I have been to this legal seafood before, and was surprisingly disappointed by this visit. The restaurant seems to be decreasing in quality. Our most recent visit felt more like a "high end" Applebees than a nice restaurant to celebrate a special event. The ambiance, menu selections, food quality, food presentation, and service all left much to be desired. Will not likely return in the future.

The food was very good, and the service was great. Being across from the CapitalOne arena on a game night, the patrons were all in hockey jerseys and jeans. We were dressed up for the theater around the corner and definitely out of place. So, we would go again for the food in casual dress, but not for a special, dressy night out.

I had the Supesea Sandwich and it was waaay over-priced ($22.95). I grew up in New England and used to go the original Legal Seafood. I expected a lot more and was disappointed. The sandwich was tiny and came with mediocre (not even hand cut) fries... So it worth the money. Not "Super" at all. Good wine though and an excellent server.

We had an office gathering. Lunch menu is sort of limited ... no mash potatoes or bake potato ... appetizer delivered cold. Had to send back. $17.99 for 7 med shrimps and fries with a small cold slaw ... wasn't worth it. Would not recommend or revisit again.

Even though we arrived 15 minutes late for our reservation due to traffic and fire department activity on our route, we were able to be seated without too much wait and were out of the restaurant in time for the concert at the Capital One Center across the street.

The maitre-de and wait staff and service were excellent
