Legal Oysteria’s menu showcases the freshness and purity of its seafood offerings and other ingredients. Preparations are simple and authentic. A brick oven (with pizza oven and rotisserie) informs the menu. There are options for those who choose to table share or prefer more traditional coursed dining. Our bar program was designed to complement the cuisine. By tradition, an osteria is casual, comfortable and accessible and Legal Oysteria aspires to afford that same experience.
We are located along the Freedom Trail, overlooking City Square Park, and close to landmarks in Charlestown, including the USS Constitution Museum and Bunker Hill Monument. We are also in walking distance to the TD Garden.

I've lived in the area for 6 months and decided to try this hidden gem. I'll definitely be back for the scrod. I'd love to try the same recipe with another fish, like haddock. The maple bacon brussel sprouts on the side were unique and crispy. I felt the portion was great and generous. We had an appetizer of the roasted meatball. I felt the meatball itself was great but the sauce lacked flavor. The servers went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our meal and that our water was never empty. I feel that it would be more popular if it had something to light the outside at night so that it isn't so easy to overlook. During the day I honestly thought it was closed. I'll be back and will tell my friends!
Poor service. Waiter needs re training. Talking past the table. Not writing order down. Repeating orders to us multiple times. Etc
Food and service were excellent! Great atmosphere!
have eaten here a few times and can always count on a consitently good meal and fresh seafood.
Sat outside - they did a great job on the COVID protocol. The service and food as usual were good.
Maura and our server, Kaira, we’re knowledgeable and attentive. The food was tasty, portioned appropriately, and nicely presented. The lower ratings on ambiance and noise were due to our party requesting outdoor seating. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.
Everything was good but we won’t rush back based only on the lack on beer options. Draft is first choice, but very disappointed that even the Guinness in a can was out of stock.
Love this place, food is great and so are the drinks!!
They did not have oysters even though it is called Legal Oysteria. It was very hot inside the restaurant. The linguini and clams was extremely bland. When we asked for salt and pepper, we were given five granules of salt and six granules of pepper.
Love this place but they should dim the lights more.
This is one of the few Legal concepts that I go to and don't order seafood. Great Italian style food! The bartenders make a great martini and our server was very knowledgeable about wine. I'll definitely be back again.
Allways good at Legal, Charlestown. Great food, attentive service. And Legal did a great job providing "social distancing" between the tables.
Love the place. Helen the bar tender is great!!!!!
Always very good food and service. Can't go wrong at Legal. It was a little chilly, so we ate inside. Legal has attractive plexiglass barriers between tables with very good spacing too. We felt very safe. The manager further reassured us, with a brief explanation of the ventilation system. I particularly love the salads with salmon or the salmon dinner. Highly recommended.
Great service and loved the scallops. Did a terrific job with all this Covid rigamarole that has to be done now!
Really bad experience, I’ve gone here multiple times and always enjoyed it ! Last night nothing had flavor, whoever cooked was terrible , the service was unbelievably bad. To top this off one of my friends is sick today . I won’t be going back
Umm the oyster restaurant had no oysters!!! WRF
Felt very safe dining indoors.
Went for my fiancé’s birthday and the server was wonderful and treated us great
Better lighting, such as candles on the outdoor tables would be great in order to see, and lend to the ambiance.
It's hard for me to post a positive review of Legal Oysteria because it is arguably the best hidden gem in Boston and I don't want the word to get out. The menu is the perfect balance between the pretentiously arranged and overpriced one you would see at the overly hyped new restaurant and the one you would see at a traditional Legal Seafoods. The ambiance is subtle and welcoming, and Helen is arguably the funniest and most talented bartender in the City.
Your staff makes the restaurant.
You also need to put a big sign out side to let local residence know you are open.
Helen is an excellent bartender and an asset to your company.
Really enjoyed eating on the sidewalk area on a late summer evening. Indoors appears very safe as the dining room has high ceilings and plexiglass between the booths.
This unique version of Legal Seafoods combines the features of a standard Legal Seafoods with a traditional Italian Osteria (small menu that changes according to available produce, simple dishes well-prepared with an Italian accent). It is more open than a typical osteria, has somewhat a brewpub ambience. Right on the Freedom Trail, easy to find with a unique giant oyster shell (complete with pearl) over the entrance that does a good job of highlighting the multilingual pun of the name (Oyster + Osteria).
I'm happy you are open again.. Missed you and your staff..
I miss you
Legal Osteria is local reataurant in Charlestown and a very easy walk. It's a notable seafood restaurant (part of the Legal Seafood family). Our waiter was very personable. As my friend and I love seafood we were happy. It's a a nice situation opposite the park.
Great food great
Valentine’s Day was great there.
Food was ok I got the special and the filet mignon was paper thin and overcooked and our drinks took 15-20 minutes to come on what seemed longer. Everything was just ok. Our corner all had there jackets on cuz it was freezing
Very nice for Valentine’s Day. Great place for kids if you have to bring them.
Went on Valentine's Day evening and was very disappointed with how long it took for everything to be served. I knew it would be a busy night, but you would think they would have staffed appropriately. Our server had a ton of tables, couldn't provide good service and the kitchen was extremely backed up. It took over 40 minutes to get oysters delivered from the raw bar!!! No cooking required! Then about an hour for our pasta dishes to be served.....pasta that is likely just heated up and topped with seafood that is cooked very quickly. It was insane. The restaurant is nice, but it was absolutely freezing sitting next to the large windows. I had to keep my puffy winter coat on throughout my entire meal....as did the other ladies sitting against the window at the 4 tables to the side of us. So much for my nice holiday outfit! Not to mention it's uncomfortable to eat in your winter coat. The food was good....but I think anything would have been tasty after waiting that long! And the poor couple next to us had to leave before their food came because despite having a 6pm reservation, they had to leave at 8pm to be on time for a show. Not ideal!
Our server, Natasha, was amazing! She makes us feels so welcome. We love dining here!
Great food and waiter staff
Would have no idea this was a Legal. The food was disappointing (over cooked, not that fresh), Service was slow and inattentive. Never going back here.
Very good food. Prices were reasonable parking was close.
I go here before Celtics and Bruins games. Very nice spot in Charlestown.
The service and food were amazing. My daughter had the Linguine with clams and I had the tuna steak. Both were the best we ever had. The wine was delicious and totally not overcharged like some restaurants. I will go back many times.
Great service and great drinks and good once again!
Awesome food and service
