Legal Oysteria’s menu showcases the freshness and purity of its seafood offerings and other ingredients. Preparations are simple and authentic. A brick oven (with pizza oven and rotisserie) informs the menu. There are options for those who choose to table share or prefer more traditional coursed dining. Our bar program was designed to complement the cuisine. By tradition, an osteria is casual, comfortable and accessible and Legal Oysteria aspires to afford that same experience.
We are located along the Freedom Trail, overlooking City Square Park, and close to landmarks in Charlestown, including the USS Constitution Museum and Bunker Hill Monument. We are also in walking distance to the TD Garden.
Greasy food. Octopus was has overcooked. I do not recommend.
They were out of the the type of tequila necessary to make one of their signature drinks so I ordered another tequila drink that was very weak. I’ve been there several times and it’s not the first time they’ve skimped on the alcohol. When I asked for more alcohol, they charged me an additional $12.25 for a shot of tequila. My drink cost a total of $25.25 for a drink that still didn’t have any effect on me. Makes me think that they may use water in their booze??? Food is typical Legal quality. Good but won’t be drinking more than beer and wine next time, if O go again.
Great food, great service. The relaxed vibe of this place and open concept is so welcoming. Definitely will return to try more dishes, especially the surf and turf ravioli. The raw and baked oysters were fresh and delicious. Ricotta pie was exceptional. Service was well-timed and friendly. Thanks, Charles!
Very hospitable staff, great food - we all precisted that they were so accommodating while we waited for late members to our party
Our favorite restaurant in Charlestown. Consistently good.
Good oysters and shrimp!! Friendly staff. Fun and tasty drinks!
Our food was fantastic. My wife had the stuffed trout and I had the Linginune ... Del Mar We also had some oysters from Maine
food was delicious! We shared scallops with capers and mushrooms which were perfectly done and so good I could have licked the plate! We also shared a combo of oysters. I had grilled salmon on a bed of asparagus with fennel grapefruit salad and my husband had a baked combo of scallops and shrimp. Both meals were cooked exactly as they should. I asked for rare salmon and that is what I got. Perfecto! We shared a chocolate pudding with caramel and it was heaven! Not too sweet, the just right amount of caramel was thin, sweet and buttery .
Night out with wife and kids. The service and atmosphere were great. The waiter was excellent. Drinks were very good. The food was subpar ; I expected better from Legal Oysteria.
Very good as usual
Pretty tasty. The oysters were delicious and our food was pretty good. Our waiter was wonderful. The seasonal cocktails, especially the maple cranberry old fashioned were absolutely amazing!
Love this place.
I go here often and I took 5 other people for dinner ranging in ages 7-90. It was not crowded, but was agonizingly slow and the food was not up to usual standard. Everything was so slow. We finally had to ask the hostess to get our check. No one had cleared the table or asked if we wanted dessert. Extremely disappointing!
Something for everyone, would go back.
Our waitress was excellent and everything came out as ordered. She was informative and quick to offer suggestions so that we were not disappointed when the food came. She checked in on us and was very friendly - one of the best Legals waitresses I've had in a long time!
Good service friendly people first time coming.... We will come again and visit... When we come back to Boston.
One of my favorite restaurants. Food is great and they are wonderful with dietary restrictions.
Amazing thank you Sabrina! We loved you! Everything was great especially chef Curtis’ hollandaise. #HollandaiseMakesMyEggsTasteNice
Love Legal Oysteria! This is a go to place for myself and co-workers a few times a week.
Amazing seafood, pleasant atmoshpere and friendly service
Service was attentive but not hovering. Food suggestions were great. Server even brought an extra dessert for us to try and it was amazing! Legal Oysteria is one of our top 5 restaurants and was perfect for this occasion. We will be back! Often.
Found plastic in my food. Returned two other dishes because they weren’t really good. They offered a free dessert despite a big piece of plastic
Outstanding service. A little cool inside but great fried oysters
Very good food and very good waiter named Boris!!!!
My husband is very fond of Legal Oysteria where he lunches often with a friend. They always have oysters. This time our N C son was with us- the friend is in France for the summer - and we had a lovely dinner. Good service, great food, quiet at 7 PM on a summer Sunday, but enough customers to entertain us. Keep up the good work. This version of Legal Seafood is very much more gemutlik than the Waterfront one, in my opinion. Maybe size does matter. Also, easy to walk of indiscretions on our way home to Burroughs Wharf. Keep up the good work. Missed the Wellfleet oysters but liked the Goose(?) ICoos?) Bay ones we had. Elizabeth
Great local oyster and seafood joint. Great to sit at bar!
The waitress was the best in Charlestown . ..........,,
great grilled oysters.
mussels are fantastic
chowder is great also
We've been going here on a regular basis as we go through our retirement process. The professional waiter has been wonderfully personable and attentive.
We had our teenage childchildren out for the evening. The appetizers were wonderful, especially the octopus. We tried each of the oysters that we available and picked our favorites. Our seafood dinners were outstanding and the kids shared a very good pizza. We had three desserts. All were wonderful but the winner was the ricotta pie. The bar tender mixed a very refreshing cucumber cocktail and there were reasonably priced bottles on the wine list. Our server, Cassie, made the evening complete. She was warm, personable, knew the menu and was not afraid to make recommendations if asked. When we return to Boston we will definitely go back to Legal Oysteria.
Wait staff is always super nice and food is always great!
The appetizers were very good; oysters and pizza. The Caesar salad with salmon was also good. The charred octopus was terrible (and we generally like octopus) and the flounder special was terrible due to overcooking and too much breading i.e. you couldn't taste the fish. It seemed awfully expensive compared to nearby restaurants where you could get similar fare. Our server, Natasha, was excellent as seemed to be the whole staff. I would like return for the oysters and the cocktails, but wouldn't stray beyond that.
Excellent server with a great smile.
Service fine, fab desert cheese pie! Food not great, compared to other Legals not as fresh. Sorry as
Usally rave & enjoy Legals !
AC NOT GOOD!!
Great food nice people. Wonderful location on the Freedom Trail
Service is always questionable. Drinks take forever, waiter seems to disappear.
We visited Legal Oysteria over the 4th of July with friends, and had an amazing experience. The restaurant is a quaint neighborhood gem with lots fresh food options. The menu has something for everyone, and has lots gluten free options that taste delicious! The atmosphere is conducive to visiting with friends, but also has TV's with local games for the sports fan that needs to keep track of game in between servings like my husband.
The staff is so accomadating from changing reservations at last minute to setting up another table in back room because they thought we would like the atmosphere better which we did.
Our waitress went above and beyond, and was deligtful! She remembered our food preferences from previous visit, and made recommendations that were perfect. She remembered what we liked to drink, and remembered that I avoided gluten, and gave us the best suggestions. She made our visit to Legal Oyseria very memorable, and she is one of the many reasons I would return to thei restaurant. 5 stars thru and thru - Thank you for a very enjoyable dinner with friends - your all amazing!
Host/waiter wasn't very friendly and was extremely pushy. He kept snapping at us and tried to get us to order dessert, even AFTER we paid the bill and were already walking out! Food was okay, didn't really stand out.
Love this local place.
