About Legal Harborside – Floor 2 Dining Room
The second floor dining room at Legal Harborside offers a focused menu of cuisine prepared with sensible creativity for celebratory eating and private dining events. Complementing the dinner menu is an aperitif cocktail list and a unique selection of artisan wines, each produced from a specific terroir representing some of the world’s most classic regions, from family-owned vineyards. Each of the vintages is unique to Legal Harborside within Massachusetts. The design of the restaurant takes full advantage of the harbor view and is reminiscent of a ship’s dining room, with a curved rosewood ceiling and glossy black columns inspired by the mast of a ship that anchor the space. A lounge off the grand spiral staircase and two oceanfront rooms, with recessing doors for privacy, are available for special events. An intimate patio with outdoor fireplace offers dining and drinks in-season. Named a “Best New Restaurant” by Esquire, 2011.

Legal Harborside – Floor 2 Dining Room Ratings and Reviews
I took my gf for a birthday dinner here and we both loved it. We sat outside and lucked out with great weather for the night and had a wonderful view of the water and nice mood lighting. The service was great, very friendly. The food was amazing from the apps, to the meal and dessert. We each ordered off their cocktail menu and both enjoyed the drinks we chose. I definitely plan to go back and make this a recurring spot!
great atmosphere and great views of the harbor. there are 3 levels to the restaurant which offer more dining options - casual (floor 1), formal (floor 2) and social (floor 3). i really appreciate the design and condition of the 3 floors. each provides an exceptional atmosphere in which to enjoy a meal. parking is near impossible in the area but the restaurant provides valet that is not unreasonably priced.
We enjoyed great cocktails on the 3rd level with a view of the harbor. The raspberry sangria was amazing! The portion of ocltail shrimp was a lot more than I expected, which was a nice surprise. Then our dinner reservations were on the second floor, and the window views were great too. Steak was delicious!
Being a big fan of Legal Seafood's I was a bit surprised at the second floor menu. It was OK and nothing spectacular. The seafood shellfish tower was excellent but $$$$. The triple lobster 3 ways entree was OK. The other 5 people in our group had the cod and it also was just OK.
Service was excellent and the wine list extensive and fairly priced. The views are great of the waterfront. Next time I'll do the scallops 'old reliable' style.
There fish may be legal, but their prices shouldn't be. The food is good, but it's not any better than any other seafood eatery out there. Any restaurant in the seaport area is going to go way over and above what they should charge for their entries, wines etc. and it's ok to make a profit, that's why your in business but greed from the owners are making them more wealthy than they already are and making it impossible for an family to enjoy a dining experience that doesn't require a second mortgage on your home
We were at Legal Floor 2 for our Anniversary and it was terrific as usual. The service was outstanding from the waiter to the Manager. They remembered my favorite cocktail and made sure we got a great seat even though it was raining outside and seats were tight.
The food was excellent and "different", not your normal Seafood or Legal Restaurant. Abalone is back on the menu and as great as ever, you just can't get this anywhere else. My wife had the swordfish which was really good as well as her Shrimp cocktail appetizer. I had the Octopus appetizer which is a first for Legal (they just don't offer it at their other restaurants). I order it at every Boston restaurant I go to. One suggestion for the Octopus, we order it to Taste The Octopus! you could add Beans, Potatoes, pasta or whatever, But don't over power the taste of the Octopus with Honey Roasted Peanut! I could hardly taste the Octopus.
other then that, it was great from the opening cocktail to the coffee and desert. We will be back, Soon!
You cannot beat the view! One of the best at the seaport. It was rainy but still beautiful. Watching the boats and the seagulls is most entertaining. The lobster bisque was delightful, the bread basket contained cornmeal wafers that are amazing. The scallops were wonderful, but there were 4. No salad, no starch, a few brussel sprouts and 4 scallops for $34.
They were delicious but it was a good thing I had those cornmeal wafers!
Very disappointing. Service was slow, food presentation was sloppy. Sauces we over done and ruined seafood. Scallops were gritty. Lobster 3 ways - tail wasn't cleaned properly, tempura claw seemed old, dry and cooked wrong. Stuffed lobster seemed to only have shrimp in the dish. $50 for a poorly prepared dish that consisted of the meat of less than half of less than a one pound lobster was ridiculous. We are always happy to pay for great dining experiences...this was not. It was clear most of our neighboring tables were having like experiences. Not the Legal Seafood I've known over the years.
Our waiter, Julian, was outstanding. However, when we asked the server of our main courses to bring the wine menu, she forgot, so by the time we were able to get the menu and order we were well into consuming the entrees. From that same server (again, not Julian) she brought the extra bread we wished but not butter (and we never did receive it).
The short ribs had gristle that ought to have been trimmed before serving.
Aside from those glitches, the lobster we both had was perfect; the service, from maître d' to waiter, was friendly and attentive; and we would highly recommend the second floor as an upscale dining experience.
Arrived early, got seated, and never got checked in as arrived, so did not get our points. Called the restaurant, said they would fix it, However, they did not.
Food was terrible, served luke warm, after a long wait. Never got drinks, waitress forgot?
Cost was very high, quality very low. So disappointed .
Have been going to other locations for many years. I guess things have changed.
Love Legal! Have dined at several locations many times including Harborside. However, I naively reserved upstairs this last time and did not know there was a difference between the floors. Would recommend Legal remind diners when reserving that there are differing menus between floors. Have a gluten free diner with us and there is a difference in gf availability between them also.
Fantastic experience! Great service--our server Lauren C was amazing, very knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive. She was very nice and even had a friendly conversation with my parents after we were done in eating and sitting at the bar. Filet and king crab was outstanding. Amazing view
