About Legal Harborside – Floor 2 Dining Room
The second floor dining room at Legal Harborside offers a focused menu of cuisine prepared with sensible creativity for celebratory eating and private dining events. Complementing the dinner menu is an aperitif cocktail list and a unique selection of artisan wines, each produced from a specific terroir representing some of the world’s most classic regions, from family-owned vineyards. Each of the vintages is unique to Legal Harborside within Massachusetts. The design of the restaurant takes full advantage of the harbor view and is reminiscent of a ship’s dining room, with a curved rosewood ceiling and glossy black columns inspired by the mast of a ship that anchor the space. A lounge off the grand spiral staircase and two oceanfront rooms, with recessing doors for privacy, are available for special events. An intimate patio with outdoor fireplace offers dining and drinks in-season. Named a “Best New Restaurant” by Esquire, 2011.

Legal Harborside – Floor 2 Dining Room Ratings and Reviews
I had been looking forward to this visit as I had never been to the “infamous” 2nd floor for a few years. I was so happy when they called and confirmed the reservation and asked me if there were any dietary restrictions. I said yes “chocolate”. What showed up as the surprise birthday dessert? Chocolate. I was assured a substitution would be made.
The food is just ok. They miss not having some Legal standards like chowder on the menu. The high light is the bar. The bartender is talented and the drinks really unique.
The service was slow. We ordered wine that showed up after our entrees which is unacceptable at these prices.
My husband had the filet that measured about 3 oz. I had the braised short rib and lobster. I was accompanied by a strange mouse that ruined and overpowered the dish.
Advice is stay on the first floor if your looking for the great seafood Legal is known for.
Roger Berkowitz never ceases to get it just right. Above and beyond service, atmosphere, and the best waterfront location of any other restaurant in the greater Boston area, bar none.
If you like wine, you'll LOVE the depth and breadth in a wine cellar stocked with well-known Wall St. guys' greatest hits as well as lesser-known butoften as good-or-better than the pricey bottles.
Raw bar selections still avaiable on 2nd floor, and a bit more sytlized seafood dishes (although some are hits/some are misses). Freshest seafood served by a highly professional staff. We will keep coming back, either upstairs or downstairs (esp. when there isn't a big bar scene on the 3 floor harbor-facing level - better know as "the cougar lounge". Stay away from late-night reservaitons in July and August, or you'll likely encounter a 20 something, hanging on the stairwell railing for dear life!
My experience at Legal Harborside is always fantastic. Food is very good, service is attentive but not intrusive. The wine selection is amazing and the wait staff is always helpful in picking a great wine.
We sat at the bar before we were taken to our table. The bartender Jack made a killer old fashioned for me and a great drink for my date.
Overall I would absolutely recommend Legal Seafood to anyone, but particularly Legal Harborside second floor takes it to the next level of service and food.
Our waiter was Daniel and he did an excellent job. He was knowledgeable of the menu and wine choices and very pleasant. His "assistant" was attentive to any needs such as topping off waters or getting dishes cleared when appropriate. Daniel and the assistant both were very professional and you didn't really know they were there unless you were looking for them to help. The food, as always was great. Everyone in our business group of four enjoyed their meal and Daniel suggested the peach and jalapeno vanilla yogurt and it sounded so wild we of course had to try it. It was delicious and split 4 ways so we didn't pork out on it.
Legal Seafood Harborside has long been one of my favorite restaurants. I have always been seated at a table with a view of the harbor, and the food has always been excellent. But this time was a disaster. My party was seated at a table around a little corner where there was no view. Two of us had lobster soup, which was so salty that my woman friend could not eat much of it and asked her husband to take it instead. When the main course came, our fish--all three dishes--was way overcooked and dried out. My halibut was so overcooked that I struggled to cut through the crust with my knife. I had never imagined that you make halibut hard to cut. I left not just disappointed but angry.
Food was as good as ever, all dishes were well presented and very enjoyable. Our server tried hard but didn't have the level of knowledge of the dishes or wine list that I experienced on past visits to the second floor at Legal Harborside. Unfortunately the decline in service quality detracted from what should be a superb dining experience.
This was without a doubt the best dining experience I have had in Boston. The location can't be beat, food was fabulous, service outstanding and relaxed atmosphere - never felt rushed. Would recommend this to everyone that wants to have a fantastic dining experience.
I went with my colleague from work; we were asked if we wanted to check our coats and bags, which was nice since we were carrying so many things. Everything was swift and we were seated immediately right next to the window. What a great view! A very polite manager with spiky hair came and told us that the energetic group at the bar will leave soon and it will be quiet; we didn't care but it was very considerate of him to let us know the situation.
Cassandra was our waitress, she answered all our questions regarding the dishes, she suggested also few entrees. I had the Jumbo Shrimp (how can you go wrong when there's a word "Jumbo" in it), it was delicious. My friend tried the Calamari, she loved it too.
For main course, we eat the Steak and fries and Scallops. All were tasty, the steak was a little salty to my liking but still very delicious; we were very satisfied. We both finished the whole plate, without shame, and it wasn't small portion. Another manager with french accent came twice and asked us how was the food and if we need something else. Also our waitress and a tall girl named Jessica asked us few times if all were to our liking. I found this nice and extremely personal. Both were very friendly and professional. Ask for Cassandra if you go there.
We couldn't skip the dessert, oh my god, the creme brulee was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and the chocolate cake with ice cream it was something to remember..
At the end, the chef came and shaked my hand; his name Jackson and asked me if the food was good. WHAT!!!! We felt celebrities! How nice. When we were leaving we were handed our coats and bags from the smiling hostess (please tip those girls, the work they do is amazing!) I will go back soon!!
We had a good time celebrating my wife’s birthday! The ambiance is wonderful, great service with a birthday card and nice cake. The view of the city waterfront is gorgeous. The food was ok, personally I did find the oysters’ selection quite delicious. Overall, we had a good experience and the bill was under what I was expecting ... good value!
We enjoyed our dinner very much (with one exception; see below) and the staff was very friendly and attentive. It was not very busy, which we enjoyed. However, it was very cold in the dining room. I had to keep my coat on through the entire meal. It was quite uncomfortable and we were told nothing could be done about it. There is one comment I would like to make about the panzanella salad that I had. It was very good and I would not recommend it. The ciabatta was in the form of croutons. Most panzanella salads I have had have pieces of crusty bread but not in the form of croutons. Therte was also something else in the salad I could not identify. They were what I was told were chestnuts. They were tasteless and added nothing to the texture or taste of the salad. I actually removed them. I also had to ask for more dressing because unlike most restaurants there was hardly any dressing on the salad. The rest of what we ordered was very good and a piece of the flourless chocolate cake for my husband’s birthday was greatly appreciated.
The service was extremely slow; it took approximately one hour to make salmon and steak. Even though the waiter was apologetic and attentive, I was expecting much more from this restaurant. I ordered two alcoholic beverages and it would’ve been nice if they were given to me as complimentary, however, they offered us shrimp cocktail
but we do not eat that. On a positive note, the steak was delicious. The salmon was not seasoned.
Fantastic all around. This is a sure thing in Boston. We both had the boulliabase. I had the octopus appetizer. He said the raw bar oysters were the best he ever had and he gets them all over the country and regularly in New England where we live. The service was pleasant and unrushed. Would be amazing in the summer!
