About Legal Harborside – Floor 2 Dining Room
The second floor dining room at Legal Harborside offers a focused menu of cuisine prepared with sensible creativity for celebratory eating and private dining events. Complementing the dinner menu is an aperitif cocktail list and a unique selection of artisan wines, each produced from a specific terroir representing some of the world’s most classic regions, from family-owned vineyards. Each of the vintages is unique to Legal Harborside within Massachusetts. The design of the restaurant takes full advantage of the harbor view and is reminiscent of a ship’s dining room, with a curved rosewood ceiling and glossy black columns inspired by the mast of a ship that anchor the space. A lounge off the grand spiral staircase and two oceanfront rooms, with recessing doors for privacy, are available for special events. An intimate patio with outdoor fireplace offers dining and drinks in-season. Named a “Best New Restaurant” by Esquire, 2011.

Legal Harborside – Floor 2 Dining Room Ratings and Reviews
I went with my colleague from work; we were asked if we wanted to check our coats and bags, which was nice since we were carrying so many things. Everything was swift and we were seated immediately right next to the window. What a great view! A very polite manager with spiky hair came and told us that the energetic group at the bar will leave soon and it will be quiet; we didn't care but it was very considerate of him to let us know the situation.
Cassandra was our waitress, she answered all our questions regarding the dishes, she suggested also few entrees. I had the Jumbo Shrimp (how can you go wrong when there's a word "Jumbo" in it), it was delicious. My friend tried the Calamari, she loved it too.
For main course, we eat the Steak and fries and Scallops. All were tasty, the steak was a little salty to my liking but still very delicious; we were very satisfied. We both finished the whole plate, without shame, and it wasn't small portion. Another manager with french accent came twice and asked us how was the food and if we need something else. Also our waitress and a tall girl named Jessica asked us few times if all were to our liking. I found this nice and extremely personal. Both were very friendly and professional. Ask for Cassandra if you go there.
We couldn't skip the dessert, oh my god, the creme brulee was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and the chocolate cake with ice cream it was something to remember..
At the end, the chef came and shaked my hand; his name Jackson and asked me if the food was good. WHAT!!!! We felt celebrities! How nice. When we were leaving we were handed our coats and bags from the smiling hostess (please tip those girls, the work they do is amazing!) I will go back soon!!
We had a good time celebrating my wife’s birthday! The ambiance is wonderful, great service with a birthday card and nice cake. The view of the city waterfront is gorgeous. The food was ok, personally I did find the oysters’ selection quite delicious. Overall, we had a good experience and the bill was under what I was expecting ... good value!
We enjoyed our dinner very much (with one exception; see below) and the staff was very friendly and attentive. It was not very busy, which we enjoyed. However, it was very cold in the dining room. I had to keep my coat on through the entire meal. It was quite uncomfortable and we were told nothing could be done about it. There is one comment I would like to make about the panzanella salad that I had. It was very good and I would not recommend it. The ciabatta was in the form of croutons. Most panzanella salads I have had have pieces of crusty bread but not in the form of croutons. Therte was also something else in the salad I could not identify. They were what I was told were chestnuts. They were tasteless and added nothing to the texture or taste of the salad. I actually removed them. I also had to ask for more dressing because unlike most restaurants there was hardly any dressing on the salad. The rest of what we ordered was very good and a piece of the flourless chocolate cake for my husband’s birthday was greatly appreciated.
The service was extremely slow; it took approximately one hour to make salmon and steak. Even though the waiter was apologetic and attentive, I was expecting much more from this restaurant. I ordered two alcoholic beverages and it would’ve been nice if they were given to me as complimentary, however, they offered us shrimp cocktail
but we do not eat that. On a positive note, the steak was delicious. The salmon was not seasoned.
Fantastic all around. This is a sure thing in Boston. We both had the boulliabase. I had the octopus appetizer. He said the raw bar oysters were the best he ever had and he gets them all over the country and regularly in New England where we live. The service was pleasant and unrushed. Would be amazing in the summer!
Took us 20 minn to sit with a reservation. Food was cold when it came for dinner, bread and biskets were cold and served other 30 min after we sitted. Restaurant clean up for the night started before we left. Awful service and experience, never coming back.
I am a big fan of Legal Seafoods. I tell my friends I am always happy with the food and service. I say that I think Legal really trains the waitstaff which makes it always enjoyable. So, I had a guest staying with me and decided we would have a guaranteed enjoyable meal at Legal. I love the Harborside location and we opted for the quieter 2nd floor. We arrived 15 minutes early and were told we would be seated at our 7:30 reservation time. The restaurant and bar did not appear terribly busy. Forty-five minutes later, at 8:00 pm, I checked at the reception desk and was told they were just about to seat us. That was 30 minutes past our 7:30 reservation time. We were then seated at a table in the bar that had been unoccupied the entire time. We were not seated in the restaurant. I think we had been either overlooked or dismissed. We talked to Alvina, our server and told her we were unhappy with our reception. She tried to make things right. The maitre d’ brought us shrimp cocktail free of charge which we felt compelled to eat so as not to make their effort seem to be in vain. The shrimp dulled our appetites and made it impossible for us to finish our entrees that we really wanted. Our entrees were delicious. Alvina was lovely, attentive and efficient. She alerted other staff that we were not pleased. Nevertheless, it was a disappointing evening and I was embarrassed.
Absolutely wonderful experience! I just kindly asked the restaurant through open table to have a table with a nice view, and they set the table with the harbor view nicely! I love both the seafood and the steak. Fair price, nice atmosphere, yummy food, and great service! I will recommend to others and definitely come back!
Location was great! Had. A table overlooking the water. The tuna crudo and lobster appetizers were great. The salmon entree was overcooked and dry. The halibut did not taste very fresh..... overall would not recommend. There are too many great places to go. I have regrets about not going to Row 34 instead .....
Legal 2 is in a class by itself. Food and service is always outstanding and Waterfront Dining in Boston is tops. Shrimp, Tuna and Octopus appertizers were excellent, requested a little change on the way the Octopus was prepared and they did it just as I requested. Main course, especially the Abalone which they are famous for, could not be matched by other Seafood restaurants in Boston.
They even remembered the cocktails and wine we had on our last visit, which we ordered again!
Cocktails and wines by the glass are varied and well priced.
All in All a really great experience and we will be back, Soon.
Food and service were amazing. Everything that we ordered came out perfect. And our waitress, Laura, was great and made us feel very welcome. Actually, the whole waiting staff was great.
The view over the harbor is scenic. No doubt it would had been even better during a summers afternoon, but it was still great to see the Boston skyline during the evening.
3 people ordered the bone-in ribeye steaks, with 2 people getting it Oscar style (lump blue crab with Burmese sauce). Unfortunately I did not have it Oscar style and was regretting it. The braised short rib with butter poached lobster tail was also very good.
All in all, a fantastic dinner. Would come back again. Highly recommended for any special occasion.
The experience was awesome. Started with a warm welcome from the two hostesses, then a perfect apple martini from Jack, I got the trio tuna and scallops, my friend had the ribeye with French fries; all delicious. We also tried the octopus, although tasty, I wasn’t thrilled with it. A manager named Dave came and welcomed us and made sure everything was good, very polite gent, well dressed and in a great spirit. Our server I think her name was Laura, bubbly and very helpful also was great. A French girl came to ask if we want pepper and she gave us water and later asked again if everything was good and if we need anything. She seemed the owner because she was chatty with everyone and very happy to be there. My friend and I felt very comfortable like we know everyone there, we enjoyed so much our time!!!! We will go back.
our table was not ready when we arrived so went to the bar for a drink.
We only waited about 15 mins and when we got to the table The General Manager apologised and gave us some aperitifs on the house. Cannot fault this restaurant, food and staff were excellent.
After a long day of sight-seeing, my mother and I arrived at Legal Harborside at 8:59 PM for our 9 PM reservation. I submitted my name and confirmed my reservation with the hostess. Another couple arrived at the same time as us stating that they had a 9:15 PM reservation. They were seated immediately. Several more couples and families arrived and were also seated within minutes. My mother and I waited over 30 minutes to be seated while everyone was seated in front of us who arrived later than us! While we waited, my mother asked if we could have a table by the window. A woman with a French accent appeared at the desk at that time and raised her voice to my mother telling her that there were no seats by the window. We were finally seated in the middle of the dining room, but we looked up to see 3 open tables next to the window overlooking the beautiful harbor where we had wanted to sit. My mother then was upset and decided to leave Legal Harborside to seek dining elsewhere. She was past tolerating the obvious discrimination we could now clearly see. Just think if there were a Black restaurant where there were all Black people working and only Blacks dining, and there was one White woman and her daughter, with reservations, waiting to be seated while 6 Black families and couples were seated in front of them. How does that look? It looks like discrimination, whether or not it was intended! What kind of establishment are you people running? Legal Harborside is a professional business that should know how to seat customers, prepare food, and serve food. I am unaware of the level of education and training that is required for the profession of hosting and seating. But, I don’t buy that Legal Harborside is unaware of how to run their business. If you don’t serve Blacks, you need to let us know in advance and we won’t come. Your treatment of myself and my mother does not reflect well on the restaurant. This is 2017. Let us better the country in which we are proud to live.
I've been to Legals at other location many times. I am a New Englander so taking out of town guests to Legals is always a high priority. I had never been to this location. There is a major issue with the location and menu, which is not clearly defined on any site, is that the menu downstairs on the first floor is different than the menu on the second floor. Even the waitstaff did not clearly distinguish that difference. It was more like: "You can sit upstairs (2nd floor) or downstairs is up to you. Upstairs has white linens on the table." That was the only difference offered between the dining options. Now I don't mind trying new things but NONE of the traditional Legal fare is available upstairs other than the clam chowder. So if you are going to Legals and expecting the traditional menu it's not there! The food is good but prepared with a different taste in mind. Beans, sprouts, nuts and other mixed ingredients. Nothing fried or broiled either and smaller portions.
We always have a great time at Legal Harborside. For the last 3-4 visits, we were lucky enough to be seated in Albina's area and she is THE BEST waitress around! She is knowledgeable about the menu and wine selections and is always at least 1 step ahead. The food is delicious but she is a HUGE reason we keep coming back! Give that girl a raise!
This very upscale second-floor section of the restaurant features amazing views of Boston Harbor (unless thick fog rolls in as it did for our dinner), very helpful staff, and white tablecloths and napkins. One should expect an expensive meal (in addition to any drinks, desserts, beverages, and valet parking), but one that is appropriate for special occasions or a generous employment benefit.
Our party of three had the following to eat: baked cod (cooked and flavored just right) with roasted vegetables and a tomato/mozzarella salad; grilled abalone (superb) and clam chowder; shrimp cocktail and chop salad (very good). The chowder is not on the menu, but was obtained from the first-floor section.
There were no sugar-free options on the dessert menu unlike the conventional Legal Seafood restaurants, which offer a sugar-free/carb-free chocolate mousse. This was a great disappointment, and somewhat blemished an otherwise excellent experience.
The fact that we had to ask the server several times for a bread basket (which was clearly provided without special request by other tables) was not appropriate for the quality this section of the restaurant was trying to present.
