Disappointing. Overpriced. Fish had bones, chowder was cold,French fries undercooked. Bathrooms were filthy. Made a reservation over a week ago to sit on the deck outside, was seated inside and when we asked to move was told “no” despite the 4 empty tables outside. Legal survives on a reputation that is dated and the location that is second to none. If you want a fabulous meal with great service that is worth the price, go somewhere else. If you just want to sit with a view of the water and don’t care about the rest, still go somewhere else!
We went to the first floor restaurant for my daughter's birthday. There was something on the menu for everyone, even our vegetarian. We were seated inside but there were open windows to the public walkway along the harbor and we could see the boats coming into and leaving the harbor. The service was great and generous with extra rolls and not rushing us.
We were seated outside with a great view. Good choice of dishes on the menu. Food was very good as well as the service. Be sure to reserve a table as its very busy.
Enjoyed the food, service and vibe.
Concert @ bankboston tent
Four items were incorrect. Took a long time to get the bill and wrap up lunch.
We always enjoy Legal Seafood, and this birthday lunch was very special. One of us is very sensitive to temperature, so we had to move indoors. The staff were understanding and helpful with our two moves, and our server was delightful. The scallops and trout were outstanding, and the grilled romaine with tomatoes and pesto is a knockout. Maple soft custard is delicious and a real surprise. Many good wine choices, too. The Albarino was perfect with our seafood. My only wish is that the onion strings from the early years could return to the menu.
Perfect lobster rolls and excellent service
Wished the fish tacos weren't fried! I should have asked for them to be grilled but didn't even think they would come out fried at the price and for Legals. 🙁
Met for friends lunch. Sat by the open window enjoying the beautiful harbor view and breeze. Service was great, food was delicious and nicely presented. Enjoyed the crab salad with a tangy lemon vinaigrette. My friend had the fish tacos which she enjoyed. Lovely place to dine.
I went with my date on Sunday. The host named Jo with a nice afro was very friendly and made us feel very welcomed; he requested someone to sit us in a very nice table overlooking the water. We had Gabe and Sarah as servers and they were both amazing. Food was great and we loved the Boston Cream Pie. A manager named Russ came to our table too and made sure that we had a memorable date. We will be going back soon!
Great evening... good seats.. a little lax on keeping water on table but food good
We sat at a table with a wonderful view of the harbor. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fun and energetic.
I am usually put off my Legal as it always seems like a tourist trap, but the 1st floor of Harborside really fit the bill on an early summer evening. Very casual with prices to match. The food and service were excellent. And the view terrific! DO NOT attempt to come here without a reservation (we had our OT reservation and were seated immediately; otherwise the wait was two hours for a table or to sit in the bar). Highly recommended. Also the GM came over to ask how we were doing. FYI it's CROWDED and NOISY.
Aung was a great server! Very attentive to our needs. The food was pretty good. I would go back again
Drinks were not that great, lobster mac and cheese was dried out not a bit cheesey and creamy, dessert was awful had to send it back got another one of something else tasted weird. Then went home and was up sick all night and the next day.
Loved having reservations here as there was a huge line of people waiting. Good food but the location was the best thing- eating on the pier overlooking the boats!
Awesome location with gorgeous views of the water. Super friendly staff and varied menu of great food.
Overall experience was not as great as it has been in the past. Staff did not seem knowledgeable about the menu or even what was going on. Had to ask for basic things like straws, water and bread. Waited fairly long amount of time to get our bill. Server was either completely un-attentive or overly talkative. He would stay at the table for long periods of time chatting, but then when we needed something he was nowhere to be found. Overall food was good, however the lobster Mac and cheese was lack luster and not worth the price or worth ordering at all for that matter. Hopefully this is not something that will continue as I have enjoyed eating here in the past!
Sat inside but by the open doors that lead out to the patio. We had a beautiful view of the harbor! Despite how busy the restaurant was, our server, Aung, was very attentive.
We arrived early to enjoy the atmosphere on the 3rd fl. before our 1st fl. dinner reservation. We included a request for an outdoor table in our reservation and told the hostess that we would be upstairs while awaiting our reservation and reiterated our request for a table outside. We were given a pager and told when a table opened up outside they would page us. An hour later, it was time for our reservation and the pager was silent. We went downstairs and noted several empty tables on the outside patio, when we inquired at the hostess desk about our table, they acted as though we were just checking in and asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. Looks like we were waiting for nothing :( Once seated, the table service was fine. (FYI, the patio is in the shade in the afternoon and even with 80 degree temp, it was a little cool). We started off with the chowder - can't go wrong, hands down the best! Tuna sushi roll was good. 2.5lb baked stuffed lobster was good -but at $68, not great. Grilled swordfish was fresh and simply prepared, mashed potato side was yummy. Overall, being a local I think there are better options for a more reasonable price. However, if you are looking for a dining experience with atmosphere and a beautiful view - this is the place. If I came back, it would be for noshes on the 3rd fl. Just a note, website says they give 2hr parking validation across the street - we were parked 2 hr and 50 mins and got just $2 off the rate and pd. $28, so don't be lulled into thinking you will get 2 FREE hours.
We both ordered Fried clams, which is served on a bed of fries in an old pie plate. Not what I expected for $32 a plate. Both the fries and the clams we stone cold. The coleslaw was the only warm thing in the pie plate. Harborside, you got to kick it up a couple of notches for the $ you charge! Maybe some regular dishes will help. However, the bartenders make a great drink every time! We will be back for an after concert beverage, but never for a overpriced dinner!
I have gone to Legal Harborside every year for my Birthday every year since it was open and and as a tradition almost every year at that location when it was a different restaurant ever sinceI was a child. Every year I get fried clams without exception. After ordering them I was unceremoniously told they didn’t have them with no real explanation. When I explained my disappointment and why they were indifferent. As far as I am concerned this is the end of this tradition and I will find a new restaurant.
Most enjoyable for lunch. Family get together. So noisy, happy atmosphere was just fine. Food was great, even if a bit slow. We were happy to be there.
Everything was perfect .
Dependable in every way, was a long day for the staff and busy being a holiday so service was understandably off just a bit since we had a LATE meal. Best crabcake around and the mussels were fresh and done right as were our entrees. A second or two on presentation might have scored that extra star, but really....we weren't on the second floor!
So bummed always have loved legals but the lobster rolls were tough and tasteless and not that much tomwarrant the price. My husband who is not a seafood eater got the steak and he barely ate it. Was all gristle/fat. Calamari was all tenticles hardly any rings.. chowder and bruscetta was only thing that was good... so dissapointed as I brought family from out of town😕
Scallops were floating in oil and overly peppered. Served another crabcake to substitute.
Excellent location and food but starter and main arrived together ???? We were also given the bill without asking , we actually wanted a second drink , so we felt rushed !
Great view, mediocre food and service, and VERY over-priced. The fish and chips I ordered was bar food quality. The oysters were good, as was my brother's lobster mac & cheese. But after putting in our order, it took over an hour to get our food. Views are fantastic but can't be beat. But know going in that is what you're paying for -- the food is massively overpriced.
The food was good and the service and ambiance were good.
The food and vibe are great - but this is likely one of the worst service experiences we ever have had. They sat us a table bumped up against the kiosk for staff to ring in orders and we kept getting bumped and had to listen to staff trash customers and how talk about how stupid we all are and easy to up-sell, Then we ordered an expensive bottle of Cakebread wine, the waiter did not know how to open properly and once uncorked used his hands to pry off the metal wrapping getting is fingers all over the top/where you pour from (I actually wanted to grab the bottle from him at one point) and then never gave us bucket to put the chilled wine in and it was a very hot day. We love the food and location (our kids love and we frequent Legals's locations often) but the staff was horrible, not trained, and were rude to be trashing patrons in front of us.
Our food (appetizers and entrees) were great as usual. Our drinks were fine too. The best part of this visit was out server Gabe. He was terrific even though we had many extra needs.
Drinks and views from the top floor were cool but crowded. We had to wait almost 30 min for our reservation slot on the 1st floor. Appetizers were subpar, we got the clam dip and a caesar salad. We had to wait almost an hour for our meal, the lobster bake or casserole. Which when finally came out, was extremely burnt and we sent it back and didn’t even bother to order something out because we had already been there for 2 hours. Service was also subpar, we sparsely saw our waitress who clearly had too many tables. The only thing that saves this place is the view.
Came here for daughter’s birthday. Unrivalled ambience and high value for the food. I will highly recommend whoever wants to enjoy the port side and fresh seafood.
Love the food!!! Love the view! Outstanding service! I will be back for another date with my husband!
We had a great dinner at Legal Seafood to celebrate my dad’s 60th birthday. Food and service were great!
Legal harborside really let me down. I made a reservation for 7 people giving the restaurant plenty of time to figure out a table outside for us. When we arrived we were told a table outside for 7 people just wasn’t possible. (Nobody ever communicated that to me even though I spoke with someone on the phone the day before the confirm seating) We did have a table near the windows which was okay until halfway through our meal the servers tried opening the windows and kept asking my 12 year old niece to assist them with pushing the windows. They had no idea what they were doing and everyone eating near the windows almost had their food knocked off the table. I have two stars for food here because everything was delicious. This place really let me down in terms of booking. There are plenty other places I’d take my business next time. The least Legal could have done was let me know they weren’t able to accommodate 7 people outside.
