About Legal Harborside - Floor 1 Restaurant and Market
Legal Sea Foods was born in 1950 as a fish market in Inman Square, Cambridge that expanded in 1968 into a no-frills restaurant where guests sat on picnic tables. The first floor hull of Legal Harborside celebrates this heritage and features a casual restaurant and market.
Here you'll enjoy an all-day menu of seafood favorites with a twist as well as shareable plates, pastas and pizzas made to order in an open kitchen. Choose to eat at one of the picnic tables for an authentic throwback experience or grab a seat at the oyster bar and watch our shuckers at work (up to 14 varieties of oysters are offered daily). A large elliptical bar offers both wine and local beers on tap. Patio seating, along Boston's HarborWalk, affords a clear view of the Boston Fish Pier, the oldest working fish pier in the country, and the city skyline.

Legal Harborside - Floor 1 Restaurant and Market Ratings and Reviews
Legal Seafood has a great menu and wonderful service. The harborside location is in the midst of the growing, energetic part of Boston's seaport district. The restaurant is easy to find with valet parking, a public pay lot across the street, and nearby public transportation.
I ordered lobster bisque and 4 raw oysters as I had never tried them before. My husband had his first experience with a whole lobster. Everything tasted really great but I mentioned to our server that it was my first experience with oysters and my husband's with lobster but she didn't offer any tips. I did eventually get her attention and ask her about how most people use the accompanying condiments for the oysters. However, she was very good with the kids which is not always the case in nicer restaurants. All in all, it was a great experience and I would go back for sure.
This place is great for a date or special occasion. It’s a bit on the pricier side but is pretty average for the Seaport area. Food is yummy as long as you’re looking for fish - there are not a whole lot of choices outside of fish dishes. I highly recommend the Lobster Mac and Cheese and the Rock Shrimp Scampi - both are excellent and mouth watering.
Service was attentive, didn’t rush us, but didn’t dawdle either - we had tickets to Laugh Boston afterward. All around great night and would definitely do it again.
Restaurant was close to my hotel and we were shown to our table on time and the server was first class. Jess was bubbly and very informative when it came to recommending dishes and food was delivered quickly and on time. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves fresh local produce made on the chefs special style.
We went as a special "out of the ordinary" treat on Thanksgiving Day 2017. I had requested a table for two close to the harbor windows and was accommodated, even with a nearly full house. My wife had lobster casserole and I had the Nantucket Bay scallop special. Both entrees were outstanding, as were the clam chowder and oyster appetizers. The food is fresh and well prepared. Overall, a great dining experience and I highly recommend Legal Harborside.
Waiter was nice, but didn’t show up to our table for a good 10 minutes after we were seated. No view due to nighttime. Much more casual than I pictured - glad I didn’t change to dress up. When I made the reservation, strangely no one asked if we wanted upstairs or downstairs, which I now know is a big difference. Waiters stood around and watched tables from slightly above us as they talked to each other (have never seen that before). Appetizers were sub par - dry, stale tasting pita bread and average hummus - could have better at home. Entrees were average. Overall, disappointing. Maybe if it had been daytime the setting would have redeemed some of it. I’d go choose Del frisco’s instead every time.
Always stop at this particular location when in Boston. Love the clam chowder. The only reason they didn’t get 5 stars ....they didn’t have my favourite oysters on the menu (Wiannos). Nonetheless, the server made some excellent recommendations on alternatives. Food is always brought out in a timely fashion, tastes great and very friendly staff. Great place, and I’ll be back next time in Boston. Keep up the good work!!
Celebrated the birthday of a special lady in my life. It was her first time at the establishment, and she absolutely LOVED it!
EVERYTHING was amazing... from the decor, the ambience, the views, the layout and spaciousness, to the service, and most importantly the FOOD! The backdrop of the Boston Harbor and Logan Airport at night added a special touch to our experience as owners of a new boutique real estate and travel company.
Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu as well as the wine selection offered. We celebrated my partner’s birthday, which was capped off by a beautiful chocolate cake dessert with “Happy Birthday” written in chocolate and a single candle. She really made the night special.
I’d definitely return to Legal Harborside... in fact... I can see myself being a regular here!
The only downside to the night was VALET PARKING... as they only accepted cash. In this day and age of sophistication and technology, they should be a way to either pay the valet using a credit card or have it added to the final dinner bill. Other than that... I had an A+ experience.
Legal Harborside ruined our beautiful anniversary weekend! We sent back the Salmon, which was undercooked. The second batch of salmon we received from them was worse than the first one.
Management felt helpless trying to fix the situation.
It's a shame to see what has become of an age-old restaurant. Buckle up or you will lose people's trust. You already lost two people's faith in you.
We love Legal Harborside and look for any excuse to go there. We have never, ever had anything less than the best meal and the best service. It's wondrous how this restaurant consistently draws personable, humorous, and efficient wait staff and servers. Huge windows overlook a water view (wonderfully busy in summer with boats along the dock, starker but still mesmerizing in fall and winter), every table in the restaurant has this harbor view. Order any dish on the menu (they're all good) or try the specials recommended by the wait staff (they're all good, too). The zucchini and summer squash side dish is very tasty, perfectly cooked with a little crispness to the cubed veggies and the portion accompanying my baked cod was generous. Prices are very reasonable, diners are never rushed through their meal, yummy hot rolls while you await your appetizer or chowder (the fish chowder is to die for), and the coffee is always very good. We are complete fans of this place.
Thought the clam chowder was just okay but sushi was excellent. Lobster Pizza was pretty good. Crab Cake appetizer was large enough to share. We appreciated the kitchen splitting it up for the two of us without us asking. We sat at the long bar by the open kitchen. Great view of the kitchen and also the waqter.
We booked a table at Legal Harbourside for our last night in Boston. We are so glad that we did. The staff who greeted us were so friendly. When we were seated the doors were open and it was chilly but the staff soon closed the doors. The view was sensational and the atmosphere was lovely. We both had starters main course drinks and dessert and the bill was very reasonable. I am pregnant so I asked the waitress could they make an non alcoholic cocktail and she went above and beyond to make it happen. The food was amazing...lobster roll and lobster mac & cheese is a must! Can't remember our waitress name...she had blonde hair and dark glasses, she was lovely. We would 100% recommend this place!
Food was ok, waiter was awesome, but the management and hostesses were awful. People with reservations were waiting more than a half hour for a table (we made our reservations two months in advance) so it’s obvious that the hostesses and reservation takers need better/adequate training and the management, who argued with us that they had done nothing wrong, needs to be trained in how to speak to paying customers. The manager, Clarice, was rude and we heard several tables discussing how they were treated and how long they had to wait. There wasn’t adequate wait staff, apparently due to the management’s inability to properly schedule for the evening, so our waiter was hustling, but he did a great job (Patrick). Having said that, the food wasn’t that great, so I would never recommend this restaurant
