As a frequent diner of Legal Seafood, I thought I would try Legal Crossing after the theater, as my date and I were celebrating a very special evening.
We ordered our meals from our server, who seeemed to be quite busy at 10:00 p.m. (we didn't notice many other servers working on the floor).
We told him that we wanted a cabernet, and he asked, "Light or full bodied?"
We ordered full bodied.
We ordered spicy cauliflower appetizer, 2 salads ( with blackened salmon and with 3 large shrimp) and 3 extra cocktail shrimp with extra cocktail sauce.
This is where the evening took a nose dive!
My caesar salad with blackened salmon came out raw and absolutely turned my stomach.
The fish was so raw in the middle, that I could not cut through it with my knife!
We didn't get our cocktail sauce and had to ask twice for it to be delivered.
The one little ramekin of sauce came 20 minutes into our meal and was not enough for both of us.
At this point, our server, was not to be found and we later saw him running around the restaurant.
Although he was friendly, our interactions were brisk and not warming, as we would expect at a Legal Seafoods.
Being on a date, I tried to minimize it when the manager came over to check in on me.
He was kind and brought a new salad with a new piece of fish.
At this point, it was late, and the evening was not enjoyable.
The bill arrived and we were SHOCKED at seeing 3 glasses of wine for $55.50!!!
Given the series of events last night, I do not feel that the experience was worth what we paid and we felt very taken advantage of in terms of the price of 3 glasses of wine!
An experienced and caring server would have tour guided us to a bottle of wine, rather than gauge us for almost $60 for 3 glasses!
A great night on the town ended on such a sour note in so many ways after we made the decision to dine at your location.
We will await your response and I am thinking of penning a letter to Roger Berkowitz in regards to such a poor experience.
Do not be followed by the name, this is different from legal Sea Food. In my opinion much better and much more interesting. The food is mostly Asian influenced. The flavors are well-balanced and delicious. The shrimp lemongrass soup and the bang bang Cauliflower were highlights. A surprisingly good selection of beer as well. What a great option before a show. I will be back
Had brunch before attending the ballet across the street at the Opera House. Restaurant is very convenient, the food is good and the service I was good. The eggs Benedict was especially good. My French toast was delicious.
Go on slower days when the service is better and stick with the seafood. The wine was expensive and it was served in something more like a shot glass then a wine glass. Generally not a good value.
Food was horrible. Started off with a bad oyster-really bad- not edible. I told the waitress but she did not seem to care. I understand that bad oysters happen. The rest of the food was simply poorly cooked . Both the garlic shrimp and the hake were over cooked and nearly flavorless. Ohh and the manager never even came by to apologize about the oyster. Way better places in Boston than this low quality corporate crap.
I am so glad my mom and I chose this place after a Sunday matinee! We had a great experience and it was so nice to be able to relax and enjoy a nice meal together, something we rarely get to do. Food and wine list were great and we left very full. Our server was Tristan (I hope...the wine was flowing!) and he was wonderful: polite, attentive, and non-intrusive with a good sense of humor.
I will happily return and spread the good word!
Was wonderful as it always is! Right across from the Opera House made it so convenient too !
The only issue is they rush you to turn the tables over. I don’t think I will go back because of this. They really want you in and out!
first time ever to be disappointed by Legal. Two of the appetizers we did not care for - the bok choy was delicious. surprised they didn't offer bon bons for dessert
Was expecting the typical Legal menu, which is good, but uninventive. This had surprisingly fresh choices - especially enjoyed the calamari and scallops. Highly recommended and would definitely go back again.
Different than a typical Legal Seafood, Legal Crossing had a menu you don't see every day. Part tapas, part mains, every bit enjoyable. We arrived for an early dinner before a show at the Opera House, and by the time we were leaving around 7pm the place was getting crowded and loud. Good variety of drinks, too.
Even though I made my reservation several days before we were seated at the worst location next to the noisy open kitchen. When I asked for a booth I was informed that they were reserved. Moving forward I now know that I must request a certain type of table. This was not clear in the reservation process. Disappointing at 5:45pn on a Tuesday.
So disappointed in the food, that I can only give an overall 1 star, even though the service was good. One place we had to send back, the rest was tasteless, (how can you make pork dumplings tasteless? they are so easy!), the shrimp cocktail was mushy, even the iceberg blue cheese salad which I used to love at Legal is horrible now! 3/4 of an iceberg lettuce, barely any blue cheese, a sliver of slimy tomato and no dressing to speak of. You need to get it together Legal, you are living off a legacy that apparently no longer exists.
Pre play meal for my birthday
Wonderful ambience. Great place apre theater. Food ok plus. Expensivd
Went here for the seafood and was very impressed. We had a couple first time seafood eaters in our party and they loved it. The server was very friendly and checked on us frequently.
We had dinner before the Theatre. Although it was very crowded, the food was well-prepared and very tasty. The service was also excellent. Very nice job under what could have been difficult circumstances!!
This was our second visit, and will not be our last! Fantastic service, delicious food. Sensitive to curtain time for the theater.
we were sat imediately despite a long line (we had reservations). staff was attentive and personable. very nice atmosphere. the food was eclectic- but very good. the coctails were very good and the overall experience wonderful!
We had a 6 pm reservation, waited 40 minutes for food, had to rush for theater at 7:30.
Food was mediocre at best.
If not for our server, would have been a total disaster; she gave us a complimentary appetizer and was very attentive and friendly.
Our sever Nancy was great. Attentive but did not rush us. Shrimp appetizer and two main entrees, trout and cod were absolutely delicious. Great place to dine before the theater.
Nice, quiet, cozy (although we went on a Sunday evening, so noise levels might be higher during busier times like usual date nights). Excellent food. Excellent service. Worth the price.
Very delicious food and great atmosphere very happy with the service and staff
Six of us came for a birthday dinner. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. They do seafood well. Try the shrimp and black garlic and the calamari.
Great place to get excellent food and cocktails with friends in the heart of Downtown Boston. Wonderful seafood options and great choice of drinks. Excellent service and cool atmosphere.
It was my first date, and it was just great! I hope to go there again.
It was a very experience, with very delicious food. the waitress was very nice, but needed more exoerience.
I've eaten here many times and food is always excellent. Service today was just terrible. Ordered tea and told it would take a while because no one washed the cups. Asked for milk on the side, got lemon. Asked for milk again took 10 minutes, tea gone by then. Ordered salad with dressing on side. Told dressing "comes on the side" so no problem. Salad came dressed. I told the server and she said "I'll tell the kitchen" - no apology, adjustment or offer to exchange. Ordered coffee and it was plopped in front of the other guest at the table. Oh, and it was not busy. Food is always good but frankly I'll be very careful who I invite to dine with me there again because I choose the venue and was embarrassed. Luckily, again, food was very good.
Excellent fresh and substantial portions
Great meat before going to the theater
First time at legal Crossing. Food was amazing. We sat near the kitchen so it was a little noisy. Waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu.
Great pre-theater selection for our family. Delicious menu of seafood and seasonal accompaniments to round out the meal. Great suggestion on wine pairing as well. Never disappointed with a meal at a Legal property.
Food and cocktails were excellent. Service was excellent. Asked for and was given a quiet table. Table was ready when we arrived. We'll continue to be Repeat Customers!
Very good service, good value for the price-- very convenient to the theater
Food was wonderful as always. Service was great. AGM went above and beyond. Can't wait to go back.
Wedge salad and lemongrass soup was exceptional but the salmon dish seemed like just a jumble of ingredients and not particularly good or appetizing. Waiter was exceptional and very entertaining
Perfect place for a business lunch! Love the convenience of reservations available at lunchtime. The food was wonderful and received rave reviews from UK business associates, especially the clam chowder. The service was impeccable, attentive, and friendly. Could not have picked better.
Food this time was not up to par. Our server was mediocre.
Love to go here before theatre, especially when the weather is not good. We like to share a bunch of small plates. We had bang bang cauliflower, chowder, shrimp cocktail, lobster Rangoon, and dumplings. All were good, especially the shrimp and chowder. You can't beat Legal for either of those. Our waiter disappeared at the end of the meal and didn't ask if we wanted dessert or coffee (we did) before he brought the check. We had plenty of time before the show, thank goodness, because the pace was a little slow.
