What happened to Legal in Hingham? Have eaten there countless times as I live in Cohasset and never, ever had a bad experience. Last night's was terrible. Calamari was drenched in a sauce, non crispy and served in a. soup bowl of sorts. Sushi was terrible (old tasting rice, fish not as fresh as it should have been) as was the sashimi.
The music in the venue was blasting and the music type (rap or some derivative) was inappropriate for a restaurant whereby middle to elderly adult dine.
The wait time for our entrees was loooong.
I'll stop there.
This "neighborhood" restaurant/bar is located in one of the better strip shopping malls just outside of Boston. It has always presented a friendly face combined with professional service and very good food. It was the perfect place to take friend that we had not visited with for the past two years due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions. We started our evening off with Crab cake and Calamari "Starters" and a Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay wine toast. The bread and rolls were placed on the table immediately following the serving of the wine. Salads were Caesar or house salads with dressing as ordered on the side. The entrees were Haddock and fresh Maine scallops. All was well prepared. We had nearly two hours of great conversation that was rarely interrupted by the wait staff although full attention was given to the refilling of water or wine glasses and attending to any of our requests during the meal. The staff uses a "pooling of tips" arrangement so that all members of the staff receive compensation, We made sure that an appropriate tip was left for the very good service and preparation of our meal. It was enjoyable experience and we will look forward to our return there soon.
Service was amazing and the food wonderful. We had plain grilled fish which was simple and perfect for a summer night.
Legal C never disappoints!!
The food was excellent. Our server was very friendly and professional.
This place has really gone down in quality. It used to be our favorite neighborhood spot. Service has gone dramatically down. The place was not busy at all yet it took the waitress 20+ minutes to take our food order. In the past the bread rolls used to come right away, this time around they came long after we finished our first round of drinks and they were half the size they used to be in the past. When we decided to repeat our drinks order, we were told that the bar is already closed... food quality was awful! Not sure whether it is because they are trying to save on ingredients or whether they have hired a crappy chef...
The waitress was a disaster, not sure whether she was new and still inexperienced but she treated us as an afterthought. Had the place been super busy I would have given her the benefit of the doubt but we were there on a Tuesday evening with barely any patrons in the restaurant.
The dining area was dirty, waiters were slow in clearing tables after guests have left the restaurant. The "ambience" was like one of a long forgotten McDonald's at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. Never again will I set foot in that place! What a difference a year makes...
Excellent food, excellent service
The food and service was excellent as usual. We will be back soon!
Horrible food. Horrible service. We will never go back.
Excellent. Allowed me to “hack“ the menu, beer battered shrimp. Yummy.
We love Legal and Legal C Bar, but this one needs some help. The decor seems dated, the layout is a bit strange, and the food, especially the sushi, is not that consistent standard that Legal has set. The music was blaring, through speakers that sounded rough. Also, no Harpoon IPA? That's like a Mcdonald's without Coke.
Great service. Unfortunately my meal was overcooked (fried shrimp) and chewy. Only had a few bites. Chowder was excellent. Daughter's fish and chips were also over done. Fries were soggy.
No a/c and it was stifling. They should have told us when we came in there was no a/c and they didn’t. I feel like I should get my money back.
First time back since Legal C Bar was sold and first time dining indoors here since pre-pandemic. It was a sweltering night and we came for the AC. Dining room was mostly empty but, reservations scarce. There was no AC or air flow and the room was very stuffy. We were seated in a dead zone but once a server was assigned she was very nice and speedy. The food did not disappoint- bang bang cauliflower was excellent as were cocktails and the swordfish with olive caponata. The tuna steak was tasty but served in a big bowl of curry broth with jicama and carrots and no rice or starch. The effect was a little strange, especially as the broth cooled and the tuna kind of floated / soaked. This dish from the Test Kitchen needs a little work along with the AC. We will be back again.
Our sever was great!! The food was decent. It was very hot in
The salmon was delicious!
I’ve never had a bad experience at Legal
The food and service were outstanding. I rated this an overall 4 for two reasons: We were a party of six and the music was so loud we couldn't hear each other and it was hot in there. I don't know what was happening with the AC, but I don't think it was on.
Service was great. Pleasant attentive and so sweet. Food as always was delicious.
We typically love legal C, But the AC here isn’t working and it makes for and uncomfortable meal. Eating friend seafood inside while sweating isn’t great. We’re also super bummed that they dropped the tune of them from their menu
Excellent service and meal. Can't wait to go back. The tuna burger is the best.
Clam chowder was delicious. Fish in my fish and chips was a large portion of flaky white cod, crisp on the outside and perfectly cooked inside.
Reliably good gluten free fried food
Jeff was so great to let us in a bit early, given the rain. The food was very good and the service was quick!
We have been coming to Legal for years and have come to expect excellence. Unfortunately that was not our experience last night. I had the cioppino which was delicious but missing any lobster and the toast was burnt. I used to have white rice with it but that wasn’t available. My husband had baked haddock and broccoli au gratin and both were burnt on top. Our server was very nice and tried hard but she was new and slipped up a couple of times.
I realize that restaurants are short handed these days and maybe that’s why the kitchen wasn’t up to par. I hope the fact Roger Berkowitz sold the restaurants isn’t the reason but we ran into trouble at the Braintree location too. It would be very sad to see this iconic restaurant chain go down the tubes so I hope you will be able to get it together.
The food and service is always consistently good at Legals, which is why we choose to go. The music choice (hard rock) and level of sound (so loud we practically felt like we were shouting to converse) was annoying. For me, it took away from my dining experience. I won’t be going again any time soon.
Best crab cakes anywhere. Salmon, haddock dishes were excellent. Good wine selection. Staff efficient, friendly, accommodating.
Always good food and service and if not they definitely will make it right if you tell them.
Alanna was a very good server
I had a short notice from a friend and his girlfriend that came in town where I live in Quincy and We decided to dining out while I was searching here on open table , I found Legal C restaurant that accepted my dining request and we really enjoyed our time while there at the Legal C restaurant. Thank you
Food and service was awesome!
Awful. Atmosphere is like a bowling alley. The food is sub-par and priced like ocean prime. Service is good. I am surprised this place is still in business. Better off buying a pint of legal chowder at stop and shop then coming here in person.
Our server Jennifer was awesome. The food was great. Hadn't been in a long time.
We went to Legal C on Saturday for a graduation celebration. The food was excellent, as always. The service was exceptional and every person on the staff - from the manager to the servers - did everything possible to ensure a wonderful experience.
Once again, reservation at 8 and was rushed and never given a heads up that the bar closed before we even got a second round. Either stay open later or don't take reservations past 7.
It was a pleasant meal. My wife enjoyed her steamed lobster. I liked my Fish and Chips. We were both stuffed after eating our meals.
Our server was excellent. The food was exceptional as always.
All covid protocols were adhered to.
Disappointed to see that service is below what it used to be at this place. Perhaps it was our waiter perhaps staff is rusty from COVID or perhaps management is different. We waited 45 minutes for our order to arrive and the place was more than half empty. We had to ask wait staff for basics like utensils and condiments.
Amazing like always
All four of us were extremely disappointed in our meals. We went to celebrate Mother’s Day and my son steak tips were barely edible, everyone else is was fair at best. Would never visit again.
