Outstanding food and wine list. Easy in and out to our 7:30 show. No rush. Perfect for the Performing Arts Center
A lovely meal before the pops concert.
The only disappointment was that our filet was in the cool side when it arrived to the table. But the steak was delicious.
New decor is pleasant. Service needs some polishing. Food is well prepared but the tropical dessert was rather strange
Now very expensive and all ala carte...the wonderful risotto is gone....
Probably will not return as our order was screwed up both on the salad (brought beets instead of Cesaer)and the entree (brought scallops instead of salmon)! Also, we didn't order dessert because service was so slow from having to correct the entree that we didn't want to be late for the performance in Segerstrom Hall.
We were served Caesar salad, filet mignon, au gratin potatoes, asparagus, and popups. The serving size and taste were perfect. The restaurant has recently been renovated and has a very good open feeling. Rick was our server and was very efficient. The staff was very friendly.
First time back since they remodeled, although it has a similar feel. We continue to love the ambiance and the ability to enjoy a fine meal and conversation without having to struggle to be heard over noise, background music, and loud diners (OK, OK, so we might be getting older and a little crotchety!).
The overall experience was very good, although not quite a 5 star for reasons stated. Our starters were excellent (cauliflower soup and shrimp cocktail) although the cocktail sauce was at least a 6-alarm. A warning there would have been nice. Our entrees were similarly quite good (especially my salmon with a honey and spice glaze). My wife's sea bass was good but the preparation was very plain; expected just a bit more pizzazz. The service was generally friendly and attentive. Our only 'concern' was that after our bill was given to us, the server disappeared for 15 minutes. Not that we were in a rush to leave - the espresso was also very good - but it always bothers me a tad to have my credit card just sitting there for time on end. Probably just a personal foible.
Soooo....close to a 5 star dining experience, with just a few slight misses along the way. We certainly plan to return and encourage others to try Cafe Rouge for their next 'special' dinner (but watch out for that cocktail sauce!)
Poor service. Overpriced for just okay food. Would not go there again.
I realize you are paying some for convenience (i.e., being able to walk to the Segerstrom center for your show), BUT, the quality of food for the price has fallen. We’ve eaten here in the past and had a wonderful meal. But now they are operating like a steakhouse, where the protein is a la carte and everything is a “side”. That is similar to mastros and capital grille, and Leatherby’s price point is similar to those places, BUT the quality is not the same. My sea bass was bland, served plain with a touch of butter, my husbands steak was cold upon delivery. Another on our table ordered the brick chicken, but it was dry and uninspired. The side Mac n chz was good, but the portion for family style was tiny, same with the carrots. So, bottom line there are better quality options for the same price point in the south coast plaza area. Service was top notch!
