Le Taj has been serving the area of downtown Montreal in Quebec since 1985. This eatery offers quality Indian fare in a beautiful and elegant setting. It is a lovely eatery that has more than just nice ambience. It also happens to have some fantastic food on the menu.
Le Taj has a range of options on the menu including various types of naan or bread, such as tandoor naan and vegetable naan. You can also find various types of rice, as well as appetizers, such as the aloo tikke, samosa, seekh kabab and the chicken malai kabab. Le Taj offers chicken, beef, seafood and lamb specialties on the menu, as well. You can find plenty to enjoy.
I went there with my girlfriend on Valentine's day. They imposed us an valentine's day menu (which was not indicated on their website nor on the phone when I confirmed my reservation). It was expansive and the food seemed like industrial food (shrimps not so fresh, a lot of fried things, etc.). For the service, they forgot to serve us our starters. After a while we had to ask for our food... This restaurant wants to show the public a nice image of a luxurious restaurant, but it still has to improve its food and its service before.
The food was very good across the board. The buttered chicken was delicious. Only downside is rice is not included in the price of the entree.
....but had the impression the whole evening that our table has to be used 3 times per evening; we had to slow down our server.
food is quite good though
I am an admitted regular diner at LeTaj, because there's never a slip in the excellent quality of food or service. This week we particularly enjoyed a couple of our favorites - Saag lamb and Shrimp Xiacuitti. Outstanding!
C'est probablement un des meilleurs restaurants Indiens à Mtl. Ce n'est pas pour rien qu'il est là depuis tant d'années. Y'a trop de choix on voudrait tout essayer.
Nice atmosphere with decour from the Expo 67 on the walls. A buffet at lunch, this restaurant turns into a place for fine dining Indian cuisine. The lamb and lentils was very good. We went for a New Year's Eve special menu, which was very good and an enjoyable evening. One of the nicest places for Indian food in Montreal.
Nice place, awesome food, but a little pricey
The food and service were excellent. I look forward to trying many other items in the future.
This place is the best place for romantic diners .You get served on the spot and get threated has a first class , thanks for all ,would recommend to all ,thanks
brought friends from Tennessee. It was their 1st time eating Indian food. They really like it.
Standard fare served in a pleasant atmosphere. Was expecting more and got ordinary.
I eat at Le Taj most trips to Montreal on business. Once again we had a great experience - excellent food, unbeatable service and welcoming hospitality from the entire staff.
We enjoyed a few menu items off the beaten path, like Chat Bahar and Naan with Mint. I also enjoyed a sauvignon blanc from India, from which they gave me a complementary half-pour additional. And they sat us right by the window which was fun.
As a British expat. This place is a gem if you're in search of an amazing curry in montreal.
Excellent service, but quite a bit long. The food was outstanding for the price.
The staffer are nice and flexible, never be pushy. The foods are delicious and the place is convenient. I will definitely go to this restaurant again!
Food was great, as usual. My favorite when visiting Montreal. Vindaloo spice is just right. Comfortable atmosphere.
Delicious but very overpriced! A small bowl of shrimp curry with four small shrimp was $20...they charged extra for the rice & naan bread! I couldn't believe that.
We thought that the food was very good. The service was also excellent. They sat us down as soon as we arrived. The restaurant was packed...not an empty table. Everything moved along at a great pace...no slowness even though the restuarant was busy. All in, a great experience.
We've eaten at Le Taj a few times, and we have loved it each and every time. They have the best butter chicken we've ever had. It's definitely worth a visit!
Delicious Indian cuisine! Look forward to coming back again :)
C'était la première fois que j'allais à ce restaurant, mais sûrement pas la dernière tellement l'expérience fut excellente. Quelle belle soirée nous avons eu entre copines et la bouffe était succulente. Je vais le suggérer à tous mes amis. Merci!
We very much enjoyed our visit to Le Taj this past Saturday evening - - our third visit. Everything was very good, with one exception. It was rather frustrating that our first two choices for wine were out-of-stock, and that we were only told that after ordering and waiting for both. This was a very minor inconvenience only, and our third choice was quite good. We definitely will visit Le Taj again when in Montreal.
Le Taj is the best Indian I've ever tasted in North America this restaurant is strait out of London. the tandoori chicken was so good we had four orders. a little expensive but it's worth it!
Everything was fine. No reason not to go here if you want Indian food in this area.
It nearly always full for a reason.
I used to go to this restaurant it was really good before
Dont know what happened i even asked if they change the cook
Went a week ago and i found really not good food
I was thinking maby a bad day it happens
Then i took another reservation i m really disappointed
Food really not good even the naan is differente
I will never ever go again i cam eat the same food on any restaurant
For 10 box
I really dont recommand this restaurant
From the beautiful ambience, to the impeccable service, to the food, to the wine list, this has to be one of the finest restaurants in town. The decor is enchanting - from the pendant lights that reflect in the windows and give an optical illusion that they are hanging from the trees to the well-appointed white table cloths to the tin embellished menus - this place is tops! Now the service couldn't be better. We ordered a meal that they affectionately call "The Feast". And that is what it is! We highly recommend it. And take home what is left over for the next night's meal. The management and servers are quite gracious. New York Indian restaurants need to come here to take a lesson in what an Indian restaurant should really be offering!
Not child friendly, very expensive for the quantity and quality of food served.
le taj is ultra consistent with excellent service and great indian food. I nice, quite extensive menu
I can see how some people would find it slightly expensive, and if you do, I suggest you go here for a special occasion. It is absolutely worth it. For those who just want some great Indian food for no particular reason, come here! Naan bread was delicious as was everything else. Service was wonderful as well.
We came here for the first time last year to celebrate our engagement and had a wonderful experience. We were eager to come back again during our visit to Montreal this year. Unfortunately, the service was very poor and the restaurant was uncomfortably hot. The waiter took 15 minutes to greet us and take our order for a bottle of wine. 10 minutes later, he was back and tried to give us the wrong bottle of wine.
The food was as delicious as we remembered, but we will hesitate to visit a third time after this last experience.
We visit Montreal on a regular basis ( we live in NYC). La Taj is a must on our list of things to do. I've brought my extended family there this time, and everybody had a great time. I love the way the space looks after a renovation, the staff is very pleasant, and attentive without being overwhelming, and the food is so so good. Thanks La Taj for making our dinners so special!
We are adept of this restaurant. We come from Québec City to go to eat at this restaurant many time a year.
Worst indian food ever and on top of that the price was way overboard for such a let down experience! A restaurant which apparently is supposedly called haute cuisine is a big deception n farce! Worst butter chicken!
I dine at Le Taj every time I am in Montreal. I have eaten Indian food in many places, but Le Taj is in a class of its own. The food is almost always superb; four stars this trip because of the onion pakora - mushy and flavorless - must have had a trainee making them. The soup, bread, and lamb saag were excellent. The chicken korma was a religious experience.
Go! Eat! You will love it!
This is a great Indian restaurant for many reasons. The food is excellent. We have taken many friends here who say they do not like Indian food but are surprised how much they enjoy it. The food is quite tasty and spices it according to your wishes. Very good service and friendly atmosphere. They renovated it a few years ago and it is a nice restaurant. If you are open to Indian food you will be happy.
First time but definitely not the last.
Nann bread & chicken jalfrezi very good. Onion bahji average at best - very pre-prepared & a bit cloying. Service very friendly & efficient.
Went there on a Tuesday night. The pace was packed, which made it overcrowded and noisy. The food was bland, not at all the rich blend of spices that Indian food usually is. The Mango Lassie is good though. Regarding service, the waiters are attentive but there were were simply not enough waiters for the amount of people in the restaurant.
Overall I feel that I payed way too much for this dinner and that I could have gone to a cheap place and have the same dining experience.
