In addition to the allure of the authentic surroundings, Le Singe Vert boasts a unique duality as both an energetic bistro and romantic hideaway treasured by a variety of guests: Singles grabbing a bite before a night on the town, families relishing a three-course meal and enamored couples enjoying a quiet evening in a secluded corner.
The menu of classic bistro fare appeals to this eclectic crowd, beginning with enticing offerings from the raw bar, to the outstanding steak frites, and of course the decadent chilled pot au chocolat for dessert. Although always festive, “Le Singe” is truly the place to be on holidays, especially for its legendary parties on Halloween, Valentine’s Day and Gay Pride.

Great place for a quick and affordable lunch! I love the croq masseur
Discovered Le Singe by accident about six years ago. I and a few of my friends have been addicted to the food, the ambiance, the attentive waitstaff and delicious bartenders!
I think the waiter forgot about us for a while. Also the runner brought food to the table that wasn’t ours. As always I tipped over 20% but the waiter wasn’t attentive. The food was great as usual. The meat was overcooked (asked for rare and it was barely pink) but the taste was there. I think the temp was more of a waiter issue or it sat under the heat lamp too long.
Although we arrived a few minutes early for our reservation, the hostess “greeted” us by advising us That there were a lot of reservations, and that we would have to vacate our table in an hour and a half. I consider this a very inhospitable way to treat your dinner guests. The restaurant needs to be in control of its timing, and should make its reservations accordingly. As it turns out, there was more than enough time, because the restaurant’s service was prompt. There was no need to make us feel during the entire dinner that we needed to be in a rush. In the future I will give my business to the multiple number of restaurants in New York City that know how to make their guests feel at home
Good food, cheery ambiance, nice service and a great classical French menu.
The food was fantastic, the service ws great, but the volume of sound and lack of sound obsortion materials, made the venue VERY loud!
Great pre-theatre dinner. Service attentive and aware of our timing which I only mentioned in open table reservation. Cozy and delicious
There was a slight mix up at the beginning of the evening. The host sat me at a table while my blind date who arrived ten minutes earlier than I had been place at another table. My date had stated the reservation was under my name so I’m not sure the reason it happened. My date texted me and thankfully I hadn’t turned my cell phone to silent yet. Also once I sat with my date it took a while before I received a menu. The waitress and the food more than made up for the mix up with the host. It was my first time there and I will definitely return for dinner again.
Le Singe is a true find. On our first visit, we were so impressed by the food and the authentic French ambiance. Certainly a gem for a cold winter night. The lobster bisque soup was the best that I have had.
We will become ‘regulars’ as this has become one of our favorite restaurants.
we'll repeat! great food and time with friends
Great neighborhood restaurant...reliable, constant
3 of us went for Sunday Brunch. We each had a different dish and all were excellent.
Consistently good, but happy to have a server, Gustafa, that was professional, friendly and inviting. Also great to see Cedric....a real Frenchman in a French restaurant. Will go back again and soon.
Le Singe Vert never disappoints. It is an authentic French bistro and a neighborhood staple.
An old fashioned French restaurant with lots of ambiance, perfectly good food and nice quiet atmosphere.
I went with to meet my husband for a Halloween dinner. The room was well decorated and lively. The food, though a bit pricey, was good as well as the service.
Never fails to please. Impeccable service, beautifully presented food and a “with it” crowd.
I have been twice and both experiences were equally great. The food and atmosphere make for a great evening. A shout out to the host/owner on my most recent visit for taking the time and care to make up for a less than great experience with our server. I’ll go back and am happy to refer others here.
I've been eating at Le Singe Vert for years, and the food has always been excellent; the service always friendly and attentive.
This was our third visit and really enjoy the authentic French bistro ambience and very good cuisine. When in NYC we alway make it a point to dine here...our type of place.
Celebrated two birthdays
Service was fabulous
Food was well prepared and excellent
This is a great French bistro. It has a very warm vibe and the food and service are excellent. They have probably the best oysters in the area.
Food is always great, wonder local vibe
Always an exceptional experience. Been here quite a few times. Never disappoints. The only thing I might have an issue with is how close the tables are. I'm not a big person but when the dining room is full it's pretty hard to get around. I don't know how the staff doesn't. Other than that, the food, service and room is great! Will keep going back!
Magnifique! Great atmosphere, fantastic service and wonderful food. Well done and thank you!
My guest's "lava"-free chocolate fondant was the first disappointing course I have ever encountered at Le Singe. (And it was quickly replaced by an alternative and gratis.) But the restaurant is still my 4-star neighborhood fave.
Not as good as it used to be, but food is decent. They used to have a good seafood stew and trout dish. They no longer do.
With this week's Dover sole special, the chef broke through his 4-star food rating to a brilliant 5. Le Singe is always a cut above "neighborhood gem", but often is downright inspired. There's also amazing raie fish, duck, hanger steak and more. You can't go wrong.
Passed by many times, but finally had dinner at Le Singe Vert last night. Great atmosphere, cozy French bistro. Very nice service too!
The Forgeois Group has really raised the bar when it comes to French cuisine and ambiance. The manager Walter catered to our every need, as well as the rest of the staff. Restaurateur Georges Forgeois (Le Singe Vert’s owner/operator) even stopped by our table to ensure our satisfaction. This is certainly a MUST VISIT AGAIN RESTAURANT! Thank you Le Singe Vert for such a wonderful dining experience!
Food was sub-standard; soup was all over supporting dish; steak over cooked. Service was average. Disappointing all round.
Excellent food and service, never fails!
This is my neighborhood place to go to whenever my out of time guests arrive.
I discovered this neighborhood gem by accident in 2013. I've been totally addicted to the place. Great food. Fernando the head chef has created a great menu. The waitstaff is always attentive. The bartenders know their craft. I've brought friends from all over the country to Le Singe. Everyone has loved it. On occasion, not often enough, Fernando has Brandade de morue on the menu which is superb. I highly recommend Le Singe for any occasion.
Great food and wine in this classic Chelsea French bistro. The pinot Noir was especially delicous!
The food was better than average but it was SO overpriced it was hard to enjoy it as much as I would have otherwise. The bread was warm but stale and the butter was cold - the breadbasket says a lot about the restaurant in my opinion! I ordered the burrata, which was delicious, but the heirloom tomato served with it was not ripe. This was a special occasion as I live outside NYC and I would not return here again.
I have been coming here, literally, since it opened. I’ve watched the prices creep up, but (after a few months’ absence) I was shocked by how high the prices have gone, and how unjustified the meals presented merit those costs. $41 for Steak Frites? Maybe at The Odeon, but definitely not here. A less expensive cut of hanger steak was north of $30 as well ... the hanger steak I got was small, over-charred, and served with a pile of truffle risotto that was uninspired. They also removed the burger and mussels from the menu, eliminating two bistro classics and two of the more reasonable items that defined the place, and any French bistro, for that matter. Servers never seem to know who gets what ... they show up and “auction” the dishes (“Who gets this?...). I used to come here for the great atmosphere, delicious food and reasonable prices. I hope management pulls back the price increases, or does something more to elevate this to the higher end dining establishment that would its prices.
Great specials, great staff great drinks. We had a great time at Le Singe.
been there many times and very good. will continue to patronize.
Easy and wonderful as always.
Way too loud!!! It was a special friends get together and we could barely hear each other - very annoying.
I usually come for lunch and did not expect the huge, noisy bar crowd.
