The Marais is reborn in Chelsea at Le Singe Vert, courtesy of the brass coat racks, long wooden bar, distressed mirrors and wicker chairs – all antiques owner Georges Forgeois sourced personally from his travels in France and North Africa.
In addition to the allure of the authentic surroundings, Le Singe Vert boasts a unique duality as both an energetic bistro and romantic hideaway treasured by a variety of guests: Singles grabbing a bite before a night on the town, families relishing a three-course meal and enamored couples enjoying a quiet evening in a secluded corner.
The menu of classic bistro fare appeals to this eclectic crowd, beginning with enticing offerings from the raw bar, to the outstanding steak frites, and of course the decadent chilled pot au chocolat for dessert. Although always festive, “Le Singe” is truly the place to be on holidays, especially for its legendary parties on Halloween, Valentine’s Day and Gay Pride.

Wonderful evening getting together with a friend from the U.K. We enjoyed a friendly French inspired atomisphere, efficient , unrushed service and delightfully tasty, delicious food . The wine selection is excellent as well. Thank you for a memorable evening.
Overall a very pleasant dining experience. The ambience is very nice albeit a little old-fashioned. The service was excellent. My only one small complaint was that my entree was a bit cold when it's arrived although it was delicious. I chose not to send it back but otherwise it was very good
The food was amazing! The hanger steak was perfect, the wines were reasonable and dessert was delicious. Too noisy with the music blaring. Unclear what ambiance it was trying to create ... disco, health club?? It should lower the music so people can talk.
Truly wanted to like this place. It is a bistro that's just three blocks away from us. Its menu is promising, bistro-type thing(onion soup) along with more up-to-date dishes (tuna tartare). Ultimately a friend's branzino was over-cooked. My duck breast was very over-cooked (although the waitperson and I had easily agreed on rare to medium rare). My wife's... well, you get the idea. Nothing bad, but not worth a re-visit. Our waitperson was lovely, helpful; she was straight out of central casting. In any event, not a huge disappointment, just someplace that we wouldn't hurry back to
It was a holiday weekend, so the restaurant was pretty empty. Ran into some other friends who were leaving and waiter was very patient as we chatted away. Food was delicious and very prompt. We lingered for about an hour talking and the staff was very attentive.
I've always loved Le Signe and consider it a neighborhood asset. During this visit they were out of Dewars scotch but the charming bartender offered a very nice substitution. The steak frite is usually my dish of choice but this time I ordered the cannard and it was outstanding, the best duck I've had in a long time!
Dinner at Le Singe Vert was a terrific ending to a wonderful day. My wife, celebrating her birthday, my son and I had an outside table along a bustling 7th Avenue sidewalk. The mood on the street was as envigorating as the food and service were outstanding. Our entrees of lamb, salmon and hangar steak were preceded by escargots, pate and tuna tartare - all perfectly prepared and presented. Somehow we managed to make room for ice cream and their sticky toffee pudding dessert. It was a truly memorable experience, one that we will surely enjoy again.
Friendly intimate restaurant serving delicious french food. Started with escargot...plump and sizzling hot in in a ramekin with bubbling juices. Dinner, app size of steak tartar was more than enough for dinner with steak frites..special black sea bass over corn peas and ramps outstanding. Good wines by the glass at very fair prices. We will be going back next season before or after Atlantic theater performances!
