Usually love everything about Le Rivage; however, this visit was a bit disappointing. I requested an appetizer size of their excellent risotto (which I have ordered several times previously and have been cheerfully accommodated). Our waiter refused this and then said I could have it at the full luncheon price of $33 since it was Saturday. I’ve had that there on Saturdays and Sundays many times. It was only 12 pm and most tables were empty, but he was insistent it was a busy time. I changed my order rather than continue the discussion with him. But we will probably go elsewhere for better service next matinee day.
Attentive staff. Great food and late night / post theatre dining.
Second time eating here prior to theater. The calves liver was so delicious as were the escargot. My husband enjoyed his potato and leek soup. The seafood crepe was good, not great. Well timed and pleasant service. Nice ambience. We will eat here again when attending theater.
What a wonderful restaurant! The food is fantastic and the service is without par. My wife and I did the pre-theatre fixed price menu with escargots, seafood crepes and dessert. Everything was excellent and the service was impeccable. I highly recommend Le Rivage to anyone that enjoys french cuisine in an intimate setting with friendly, attentive service.
We had a wonderful time. The food was delicious. And the service was attentive and friendly.
Each year I look forward to enjoying a dinner in Le Rivage before or after seeing a Broadway show. It is consistently delicious with excellent service. I highly recommend this French restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food in a pleasant environment where the wait staff assure that you will get to the theatre on time.
Le Rivage is our favorite small French Bistro in the city. The attractive decor is enhanced by friendly service and delicious food. They just added jazz on Monday and Thursday. Always a pleasure to visit here. Have recommended Le Rivage to friends and they agree.
Price fix menu available at lunch and dinner.
Our favorite place to dine before or after the theater.
There are so many good items on the menu it is tough to choose.
Great service, from welcome to desert. Classic French dishes served with great pride and authenticity, in a charming environment.
Excellent choice for pre-theatre. Prix-fixe menu is very large so it's not necessary to order the few dishes requiring a supplement. They're used to dealing with a packed restaurant and getting everyone out in time for their shows.
Tired restaurant. Noisy. Tables too close. Food ordinary.
I haven't been back to Le Revage for a while, no fault to them, it just fell off my New York radar. When it came up as a choice on Open Table, I quickly booked it! Great food! Pleasant staff and an all round nice atmosphere. I will not forget them again!
👍👍 we were going to a show the food was great quick but not rushed and service was attentive. We will dine there again pre show.
Solid french in a warm atmosphere. Although the prix fixed menu was a very good value, I would have preferred to ordered individually. Although the chocolate mouse was delicious, I am trying to not let temptation lead me, but with it being included, I couldn't resist.
The look. feel. service & food of old classic french cuisine.
Always a hit! A must before a show! Frog legs were amazing.
This was my first dining experience at Le Rivage! Loved it! Food delicious, service wonderful, ambiance lovely! A quaint bistro with a well rounded menu and very affordable prices! My friends agree! We will return!
We really enjoyed our meal here. We had the seafood crepe and the trout amandine. Both were excellent. I think this is the best value in town - $33 for three courses. I have friends coming in from out of town and have already made our reservation!
Great pre-theater (or otherwise) option, very close to many shows. Their fixed price menu (3-7:30) has many outstanding choices and is quite reasonable at $43. All our starters were superb but I highly recommend the mussels topped with perfectly garlicky bread crumbs. My strip steak with peppercorn sauce was a generous cut, cooked to perfection. And our server (from Montenegro) was efficient and friendly. They even treated us to some homemade mulled rum at the end of our meal.
But what really impressed us was this. We showed up at 6:15 for our 8:00 show, only to realize to our horror (at 7:01) that our tickets were for a 7PM show. The gentleman at the door said "Go, come back after the show and finish your meal (we had only eaten our starters). Wow. We rushed and made the curtain at Book of Mormon (a great show, BTW).
Of course, we showed up after the show, and actually asked for another round of starters since they were go good. Their trust and kindness was most appreciated.
Service was terrific. Our wait person was outstanding.
A quintessential French menu! All your favourites are to be found on their prix fixe menu. Excellent value, and totally tasty.
Do not know the name of our waiter. But whoever he was, he was very charming and added to the enjoyment of our meal. My guests were very impressed with their first visit.
Wonderful in every way from the hostess, decor, ambiance, staff and the food. Also delighted to have a kir Royale again. I have lived In NY all my life and am amazed I had never been in this gem of a restaurant. We plan on going back often- highly recommend it.
We had heard about the famous French onion soup and went there last Saturday. It was good but not awesome. However we were surprised of the very poor quality of the French fries that came as a side (regular frozen fries). My fiancé also ordered a roasted beet salad and it was basically just cooked beet. Overall a ver average place...
Fixed price menu with plenty of delicious options. Fast service made it an excellent choice for pre-theater dining.
Excellent food, went at 615 and they had a pre show menu... 3 course meal for $40!
This is a boisterous, fun authentic French restaurant. It's all about the food. They do certain dishes for certain meal services and they do them well. There is no drama just really good food. The service is fast and accurate. This place is popular so be prepared for regulars and noise. The regulars are friendly and the din is constant but not rowdy or so bad you can't talk. The tables are small but the food is so good you don't care. On the residential side of the theater district so be forewarned-make a reservation! Highly recommended.
We met friends for an early dinner before seeing a play. Le Rivage was just the spot. The dining room is pretty. The fare was delicious. Our waiter was professional and polite. We are looking forward to our return.
ps. We are New Yorkers!
A really nice meal for a fair price in the NY theater district. The have a 'price fix' meal package that includes appetizer, entree and dessert. My pork chop was excellent, and my friends raved about the chocolate mouse.
Stellar restaurant!! Couldn't find better!! Food, service, ambiance was awesome! I look forward to returning. Highly recommending this restaurant!! Thank you, le Rivage!
The classic French fare remains deliciously predictable. The classics are all here. This is one of the last places in Nyc - Maybe the only?- where they serve escargot in the shell with the special utensils. The dining room is a rare find - pleasantly quiet thanks to a low ceilings with old school sound tiles. The addition of jazz on Monday and Thursday eves is most welcome! We hope it never changes!
Like being in Paris. A refuge from the normal theatre district bustle. I guess that’s why it has been the go to spot for ever. Go and enjoy.
We have eaten here several times and always find the staff courteous and the food well prepared and delicious.
When we visit New York City once or twice a year we always try to dine here. Good food, service and convenient to theater district
What a great dining experience!! From our enthusiastic welcome at the door to the final merci beaucoup, Madame, as we left for our Broadway matinee, we knew that we had made the best decision ever to go to Le Rivage. Food is so delicious, waitstaff is attentive, friendly and interested and value for your dollar is top notch!!!! Do not miss this restaurant.
Very charming and reasonable restaurant with polite staff. Some of the best mussels I have ever had!
The food and service is always consistently very good at Le Rivage.
Such a great experience! We arrived early for our reservation because we simply couldn’t walk anymore. The staff was so accommodating and absolutely wonderful. Our meals were fabulous. Escargots, salmon and frogs legs-yummm! House made desserts were incredible- creme brûlée and delicious apple tart.
I enjoy dinning at Le rivage it is a charming place with good food. The service is very attentive. Whoever I have brought there just loved it!
