Delicious as usual and well worth the price. We always go before the theatre
This is the third time al Le Rivage and my other two experiences went very well. However my most recent visit will be my 3rd and last time. The steak was fatty and very tough (even while cooked medium-rare) and the portion sizes were laughably small. Despite my previous experiences I cannot recommend this restaurant. The artwork and lighting is still very nice and romantic and the atmosphere is still relaxing but in terms of food, they really seem to have changed..
The service and food exceeded expectations. Again they were very attentive and able to get us
out on time to go to theater.
male manager/ owner was insulting when one of our four diners said they left the fish because it tasted 'off'. This diner eats fish all the time .. It was embarrassing ,to say the least , and since I chose this restaurant , doubly so. Needless to say , will never return !
The food, ambience, charm and location of this retaurant were excellent. What was more surprising was the reasonable price for such good quality food and service. I would definately recommend this place. They were also very aware of timing as many of the guests came for dinner prior to attending a Broadway show and the staff made sure everyone was out in time!
This was such an odd place, after reading good reviews online. The food, on my order anyway, all seemed gloppy and dated recipes. The celery root sounded like it would be crunchy and vibrant, but was cooked limp and drowning in vinaigrette on top of very thin slices of tomato that were mealy. My trout almandine was several little bits of trout, plenty of food but cut into smaller servings. The trout was a little overcooked but not terrible. The almonds were so crispy from quite a bit of time under the broiler. And next to no sauce. Hub's pork chop was a healthy serving, cooked perfectly. His app of duck terrine was about twice as much food as expected. Desserts were soso. But for $25 prix fixe, I guess shouldn't be surprised.
We have never had an experience here that's less that wonderful. I even had my "turning Medicare-age" party here several years ago. The food is really good and the service always great. We'll return soon!
We usually go before theater and find it noisey, but good. This time we went after the crowd had left and found it even better.
We basically enjoyed our dinner at Le Rivage. The potato/leek soup was delicious and surprisingly, not heavy with cream. We each had fish; salmon and sole bonne femme. The salmon was well prepared and the sole had a delicious sauce, but was over baked and a bit mushy. The accompanying broccoli was especially tasty. Food is served very hot and service is attentive, if a little rushed and not overly friendly. However, the apparent owner is a cordial presence who sees that things run smoothly. Our cocktails were a disappointment. We had Manhattans, which tasted like vermouth and bitters with very little bourbon. The Prix Fixe dinner price offered is a very good value.
When I made the reservation I requested a quiet table where four old friends could have a nice conversation and they gave me just what I wanted. Food was very good. Service was attentive if not particularly charming. I would definitely go back and recommend it to a friend.
very good French bistro restaurant with a very affordable five course price fix dinner
We have been dining at Le Rivage for many, many years---never disappointed---always very pleased---the food, the service---Marcel and Paul's leadership.
We took out of town guests for a prix fix dinner. There were 8 of us. The food was delicious, nice size portions, & very good service.
Despite the pre-theater Wed matinee crowd, which raised the noise level, 4 of us enjoyed the food tremendously. We picked it out of the blue, $25 prix fixe lunch was an incentive, as was the location. The list of appetizers I thought was the first 2 courses, so many choices. Then even more choices for main course. Desserts were great, poire Helene, not bread pudding because of the gluten, was my choice. All 4 meals were excellent. We would love to try dinner there as well, maybe next trip.
everything went as planned and we all had a lovely dinner -enjoyed our service and had extra attention from the owner-she spoke with my two young girls in french and was most gracious
food was really good
We visit the city only once a year but always part of that trip is a visit to Le Rivage. Their menu had changed a bit this time but they immediately accommodated by request for escargot as a main course. As usual, it was excellent. Perfect ending to a perfect Easter day.
When you head out for dinner before the theatre you can expect a so-so meal served quickly. Not at Le Rivage. They are pleasant from the minute you open the door. Food is delicious and the pri fixe options are plenty. We had a large group (8) who enjoyed the food and atmosphere as much as the play we saw afterward. We will be back.
The restaurant is perfectly located for pre and post theater and the inside is well maintained and charming. The owners greet clients and we found the waitress very congenial.
Food was traditional French and good, nothing out of the ordinary, and house wines were fine. By 5:30pm the place was filled and we were in and out in just over 1 hour.
Where else in NYC are you going to get a delicious 3 course dinner of fine French food served in a restaurant that looks like it was transplanted out of one of the beautiful oil paintings of the French countryside that adorn its walls, all for the pre-fixed price of $25??
Even the brusque waitress, who serves you begrudgingly reminds you of France and is part of the deal.
Great food and service. Got us in and out fast yo make a show. Also good prefix menu priced right.
Very busy day but everything was handled perfectly. Food was very good. Great selection and very good price.
The waitress helped pick a wonderful bottle of wine to pair with our French onion soup and delicious meals!
This was our second visit to Le Rivage and there will be a third and fourth visit! Love the menu and the service. Ambience is outstanding. The entire staff makes you feel special and that you are in France.
great duck- crisp, meaty and the sauce was terrific.
On each and every visit to NY, we make it to Le Rivage. Lovely all round. Food, ambiance, service, divine.
Generally very good but bacon served with calves liver was cold and hard, why can't they cook bacon to order, it only takes a few minutes. Bread pudding also good but hard as though microwaved before serving.
One of the best parts of our (my sister's and my) dining experience at Le Rivage was the presence of a friendly couple on one side of us and a friendly woman diner on the other side. We had all been seated at approximately the same time, and, once the "ice" was "broken," the conversations flowed freely among the three tables - the upside of the tables in this small restaurant being crammed in so close together. Although we had allowed plenty of time for our pre-theatre dinner, we were almost late to the show because we had lost track of the time, thanks to being engrossed in conversation.
We have been going to Le Rivage for a number of years. Great location near the Theater district that has reasonabley priced French food. They have a prix fixe menu for people going to the show that is nice. We both had the sweetbreads and thought them excellent. The service was good and the restaurant was clean.
We arrived about 20 minutes late for our reservation because of high volume traffic. The waitress was great and obviously the kitchen is well staffed because we were able to get our three courses of the prix-fixe without feeling rushed and we got to our 2:00 theater with plenty of time to spare.
There were plenty of choices on the prix-fixe and everything we had was delicious.
I can always count on Le Rivage for a great meal and fast service so we make our show in plenty of time! Wonderful!
We got off to a bad start when we received a call in our cab saying we were late. Our reservation was for 12 pm and the woman insisted it was for 11:30. We were able to retrieve our message from the restaurant confirming a 12 o'clock reservation. However, no apologies were forthcoming. Then an elderly man (maybe the owner) grumbled at us for being late.(which we weren't). The quiche was very disappointing. . Because of our experience we didn't leave our usual 20% tip and left 10% cash (they didn't want to take our visa). The waitress, and then the manager came out and again counted out the cash( big todo right at the table). She said they expected a bigger tip. Whew! Glad to get out of there, will never go again, and will not recommend,
On a Monday night, this place was virtually empty. The prix fix offers a wide selection of choice and is a bargain. Food came out fast and tasted ok. Decor is intimate but prsentation lacked imagination. Service was mediocre.
Six of us just enjoyed a wonderful pre-theater dinner at Le Rivage over the weekend. The menu was quite extensive and creative, the presentations were terrific and the food was delicious. The staff is efficient and helpful and we all thought our meals were perfect. The fixed price menu includes an appetizer, entree, coffee and dessert which is more than most others. We look forward to our next visit!
Great meal if you are in the theater district.
French food prepared well. The staff is always very attentive and friendly
Have eaten here many times and never disappointed.
good food, warm staff, good value
My friends and I go to Le Rivage every time we are in New York. We always enjoy the food and the service but this time it was totally over crowded. It sees as though they may have added tables and definitely added more chairs to some of the tables. We had a nice round table for 5. I believe we were 4 at that same table before. My one friend was made uncomfortable because waitresses and patrons had to squeeze past pushing against her seat----it was so tight that when the friend next to me had to go to the ladies room I had to get up (which was difficult ) I had to get up and out so she could squeeze out. As I said we love Le Rivage but my friends have asked me to book elsewhere next time if it is going to be so overcrowded.
Dependable. always fine food. freshly prepared & good portions.
Very good service, nice, romantic atmosphere, quiet.. Food was just ok.
Fabulous food, Great Selection, Great Service
BEEN COMING TO THIS WONDERFUL RESTAURANT BEFORE THEATER FOR YEARS.
GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE TERRIFIC BACK ROOM FOR PRIVATE PARTIES
