Le Rivage Ratings and Reviews
First time here, bartender and waitstaff were all very friendly and helpful with questions about the menu. Even though it was packed (classic NYC with tables very close together), the service was fast and food was delicious. Portions are realistic (not oversized) so we were full and satisfied by the end of the 3 courses.
We went after a matinee so it wasn’t very busy. The prie fixe menu offers many choices and it is a very good value. Been coming here for years. Service and food are excellent.
However, when we came in we were asked if we wanted to check our jackets. We said no as we had lightweight, short jackets. The hostess then said we had to check our jackets as she didn’t want them in back of chairs as the restaurant might get crowded. So we checked the jackets but then we were seated where our chairs were against a wall so our jackets would have been in no one’s way plus it didn’t get crowded while we were there. Don’t ask if we want to check our jackets if you require us to check them!
We thoroughly enjoyed the prix-fixe lunch before the theater.
One complaint: there were only 2 of us & the server asked who gets the crepe? At a restaurant like this, the servers should not have to ask who gets what dish. I waited tables all through college & didn't find that hard to do.
Delicious food and fast pre-theater service.. I would have liked to have lingered over the meal to appreciate it longer, since it was delicious. I had the salmon an d it was cooked perfectly. The peach compote dessert was SO yummy, but at that point all I could think about was getting to Hamilton!
We go to Le Rivage when we go to the theater. The food is always excellent! The Seafood Bisque is outstanding, we get it every trip.
The portions are perfect to make you feel comfortable but not overstuffed. The desserts are wonderful. Le Rivage is our favorite restaurant in NYC!
We went to celebrate a double birthday; the staff welcomed us warmly and wished us Happy Birthday on arrival. Pleasant French ambiance, with Mediterranean paintings. Friendly staff. Good value menu of French fare: we had the Pate de Campagne and Liver and Bacon, and Stuffed Mussels and Truite Almondine; all dishes tasty and well prepared. For desert we had Peach Melba and Bread Pudding, neither outstanding; perhaps we should have stuck to the French menu. Service was good. My only adverse comment is that the tables were too close together, but I suppose squeezing in as many as possible keeps the prices reasonable. Will certainly try this again for value.
Our dinner at Le Rivage was absolutely delightful! They offered a three course prix fixe dinner with an extensive list of selections in all three courses for $39! The escargot were perfectly prepared, and I tried their special French Onion Soup Burger which was beyond the best. I had no intention of ordering a burger in a French restaurant but I am surely glad I did because it was delicious. We took our desserts home because we were too full to eat them and I'm sorry to say my friend ate both of them so I can't comment but she must have liked the both - the Napoleon and the bread pudding.
Our server, Ionnis, was charming and helpful.
If I lived in NYC, I would go to Le Rivage all the time.
This was our first visit to this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised. The French menu was authentic and the food was well presented and was quite good. The server was very attentive without being overwhelming. We had a fixed price Sunday lunch and the portions were ample and quite satisfying. The tables are close together so if that bothers you, I would say do not go. We do look forward to dining here again at a future date.
Excellent dining experience as always. We were in the city to see the Dowingtown Exhibit. Wanted a classic French meal . We were not disappointed. Everything about the place is superior. We have been going there for over thirty years. Will continue to dine there.
