The French onion burger lives up to the hype. Try to go after 8 if its a theater night.
Have been here many times before and have always loved the food, service and atmosphere. This time was a big miss. Figured it was Covid related but, we were sat next to the path to the kitchen and bathrooms. We are tall (6’-3”) so, our chairs stuck out into the aisle causing a drafty experience. Asked to be moved and couldn’t be accommodating due to the capacity. Felt rushed with the order and food was delivered almost immediately. We were in and out in less than an hour. Service was friendly. Food was mediocre at best. Hope this was just a blip because, this is my favorite French restaurant in New York.
Very sorry for your experience, obviously you know this is not our usual standard. I as well have a favorite restaurant in Nyc and sometimes they do have off nights; but let me tell you what I don’t do is poorly review them publicly. If it was egregious I might tell them personally in private to help them but usually I don’t because I know it’s not the norm. We are definitely behind the 8ball due to staffing and Covid so maybe we will let you know when it’s best for you to come back.
The food is excellent and authentic. Delicious French dishes prepared perfectly. The restaurant is cozy and very classic New York. Loved every minute of the experience definitely recommend for a fun date night out
We had a wonderful meal. This gem right in the heart of the theater district is definitely one we will revisit...excellent food, and great service- not the typical pre-theater rush.
The menu had good variety - something for everyone.
I saw some negative reviews but still decided to go, I found the ambiance to be great, the food was very good, and i would certainly go back. If I have to say a constructive comment would be to provide a bit more bread for the table we were a party of 4 and they brought a small piece of bread an a single piece of butter... this did not last. We also ordered the scargots and no bread was brought out with it.
Great place for a pre-theater meal. The food and service is very good.
The 'Thanksgiving experience' dinner was really poor. After being seated, we were told that the restaurant was out of the Thanksgiving turkey dish and we were asked to order a la carte. Both the duck and the coq au vin were terrible - we didn't even finish 20% of it. Worst part - after all this, another party was seated next to us, who came in about 30 minutes later and they were served the Thanksgiving turkey dish. This restaurant had a lot of positive reviews on Open Table, which is why we chose it. But really disappointed. Please find another credible French restaurant in NYC and save yourself from being disappointed.
Super!!!! Nos encanto el lugar y la comida deliciosa. Tambien pudimos conocer a una cantante Francesa del grupo Avalon Tatiana Eva-Marie.
Great place with excellent food! Live music was very good too!
Very tasty, came at an in-between time, staff were attentive and service was prompt
Went for Thanksgiving. Great food, great atmosphere, fantastic service.
We have just got home from our Thanksgiving lunch at Le Rivage. We have not been to this restaurant since the start of Covid, and spent a lot of our time there wondering why we have not been back sooner! The food as always was superb, and for Thanksgiving it was very reasonably priced and cooked to perfection. The ambience is perfect, it is like being transported to Paris, and it was lovely to have the owners there. All the staff are attentive, friendly and professional. Will definitely return soon.
Entire pre-fix thanksgiving meal was delicious!!!!
A great pre theater dining experience. The decor, the food and the service were all wonder!
Great pre-theater lunch
The food was great and the service was good. My mom had an excellent birthday.
Great place for a pre-matinee prix fix lunch-food was delicious! Magnifique!
We celebrated my teenage granddaughters’ birthdays. The food was delicious and we enjoyed the jazz. Just a lovely evening.
It was wonderful returning to Le Rivage after a long hiatus due to the Covid. The restaurant was packed so obviously others felt the same.
The food offerings in the prix fixe as multiple with excellent choices. Wines by the glass are reasonable. The servers attentive. Worth the visit.
Food was good but not great. Service was very slow. And even though we were there during the price fix time period our bill was still huge for what we got. There had clearly been a mixup in the kitchen which delayed our entrees but host did not offer a free glass of wine or anything to compensate us. Good thing we weren't actually trying to get to the theater. We never would have made it.
The service was a bit slow, but the restaurant was very crowded.
Food and ambiance were great.
Service was a little slow.
Overall a good experience.
Very sorry about you experience, we are dealing with a completely new staff so we are still struggling to get our ducks in a row. We are striving to get back to our high standards and wield hope you will come back and improve our score. Chef Paul Denamiel
I was so excited to return to Le Rivage following the pandemic isolation, and it was even better than I'd remembered. We were greeted warmly by Giselle who gave us our choice of tables. The service was wonderful, surpassed only by the fabulous food. I almost always order the truite almondine, and I can report it was even better than the previous 8 or 9 times I've ordered it before. My friend loved her coq au vin, and we both raved about the apple tart and chocolate mousse.
Le Rivage has always been my favorite theater district restaurant and continues to be so in 2021. Go-you won't be disappointed!
Salmon was excellent as was the squash soup. Service was excellent except they kept filling my sparkling water glass with still water. It happened 3 times and the staff quickly apologized and replaced. It was almost funny after a while.
Just an absolute wonder dining experience. Jazz, food and service was excellent!
Overpriced for a mediocre food.
Not really recommend.
Please help me to understand where we fell short, in these trying times we are desperately playing catch-up trying to teach new staff and keeping them to our standards. I am very sorry we disappointed you. Chef Paul Denamiel
The food is very well-prepared traditional French. They are extremely efficient without compromising quality. We did not feel rushed but had no problem in getting to the theatre on time.
I love this restaurant. The food is varied and really delicious. It is increasingly difficult to find French cuisine. The staff is both welcoming and helpful. The location is perfect for the theater.
Great ambiance and pre-theatre menu. They are very conscious of people going to shows and gets you out on time. Food is delicious with a good selection for the 3 course special menu.
Service e was wonderful. Love going there!
Lovely place in theater district with good food and friendly service. Pri Fixe meal with multiple options. Decent wine choices. Have been dining here for years.
A group of new friends meeting for the first time
The last time we were in NY, we ate here due to an Open Table review. The owner, Paul (also the Executive Chef) was an absolutely wonderful host (on an evening where the restaurant was so slammed, it was a wonder anyone could keep their composure) and the meal was so exquisite, we had to go back.
This visit did not disappoint. It was a fixe prix menu that was well worth the cost. We started with the seafood crepe and seafood bisque appetizers...followed them up with Boeuf Bourguignon and the Trout Almondine...and finished with the Bread Pudding and the Chocolate Mousse. Of course, we had to have a bottle of wine to go with the meal.
We feel that whatever you order on the menu would not disappoint. We are from CA, and don't get to NY all that often, but on our next visit, we again will dine at Le Rivage.
Excellent location for pre-or post theater but I would recommend dining there without theater tickets as well food and service were perfect and there is a jazz pianist that plays lovely music while dinning
Arrived 30 mins. early for our lunch reservation and were warmly greeted and seated right away. Food was delicious! Will definitely return.
This is an outstanding family owed and operated gem of a French Restaurant. Both food and service are top notch. Value for the quality is exceptional. Especially great for pre-theater. So glad that this small family owned restaurant survived the pandemic. Would recommend it to anyone.
Everyone in our party of 10 was very impressed and happy with the food the ambiance and the service at Le Rivage. Food was delicious prices reasonable service was friendly. We were allowed to remain until it was time for us to leave for the theater, not rushed out as in some other establishments. Will definitely return.
We’ve never been disappointed here. Inside is a warm, cozy French bistro with friendly service and good food.
Food was fantastic. Crowded and noisy but delicious.
I’ve never had a bad experience at Le Rivage. Everyone in my party had the most tasty meal. The prix fix menu is well worth the value. Portions are very generous.
We are so happy that Le Rivage survived the COVID lockdown! It was our favorite French restaurant before, and will continue to be going forward. We ate there recently on a Saturday in November 2021, prior to a 3:00 show. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they asked us several times about our curtain time. The food was almost as good as we remembered. Our only complaints were minor: the bread was not heated before it was served, and the apple torte I had for dessert, while very tasty, was refrigerator-cold. Other than those small "nits," a very enjoyable experience. We will be back.
