Le Pois Penché
Le Pois Penche was the worst restaurant we ate at during our visit in Canada! The food and service was awful! This is a fairly expensive restaurant and at these prices one would expect better food. Our waiter was rude, arrogant and just did not care. We had to ask several times for water which we never received. The dishes we ordered were too small of a portion and poorly prepared. It was the first time in my life that I did not leave a tip at a restaurant. They definitely need a manager to over see their staff.
Beautiful restaurant with big raw bar and great selection of seafood dishes. Service was good. Anchovy app was fresh and delicious. Monkfish special was good as was the soupier with mixed seafood although more than 1 shrimp and scallop in the dish would have been appreciated. Lemon tart to finish was light and refreshing.
Great for families and large groups
Food was amazing in a really cool Montreal atmosphere! Bravo!
Great food! We all enjoyed it!
We have actually eaten here twice in the same week. On our first visit, our server was just ok. The delicious food made up for the lack of service. We saw our server exit the restaurant about 3/4 into our meal so don’t know what happened there. No explanation from anyone, we just got a different (and more attentive server). Didn’t see any problems with service at tables in other sections. We had the onion soup (very light), crab cake, which came with a light salad on the same plate, the anchovy app, the fois Gras and cavatelli with duck confit. All very good. And a great chocolate tart with passion fruit sorbet. On our second visit we got the duck special and the trout special. My fish was delicious! There are specials written on a board on the wall but it is in French so be sure to ask if the server doesn’t mention specials. Some friends got the fusilli and veal chop and all looked great. Would definitely return for another meal.
C’était parfait : moules frites délicieuses avec une sauce savoureuses
Service du midi un peu long pour le menu express
Good food but service not at the level of our expectation for this kind of place.
We were a group of 5 for lunch on the terrasse, and one of us is badly allergic to gluten, and I have some digestive issue. My friend, as usual, called ahead of time to know if she would have GF options. Answer was an assertive "yes". But once there, the waiter just didn't care:
When ordering, he did not take the time to answer her questions and just left without saying anything. He came back 10 min later, we had to insist on the gluten-free options, which were finally reduced to 2 choices on the menu.
I asked him to put any sauce on the side, but as my salmon tartare came with salad, it was fully dressed.
We had to wait forever to get service when other tables were attended more frequently. I'm not coming back! There are other places in Montreal with good food and much better service.
We visited here for dinner and arrived slightly early however this was not a problem to seat us as the restaurant was more than half empty. We noticed that there was a special offer on a dozen oysters $20 so ordered them but was told the special offer is only if you sit at the bar (10 meters away) otherwise they are $30. Ok we will sit up there and eat them and have a cocktail then come to the table for our starters and mains. No you can’t do that we were informed. How can the establishment differentiate between 10 meters. If we just sat and had oysters and went we would spend a little but we were also having starters mains a bottle of wine so we’re spending considerably more however we were not allowed to have the oysters special sitting at the table. In hindsight what we should have done is sat at he bar and ordered the oysters and cocktails as we were half an hour early, and closed the bill then gone to the table for a fresh booking.
We found it a little strange that’s all. The food was good nothing to complain about the service was good too.
Excellent food and cocktails. The only problem is that our appetizers were served before we got the cocktails.
Great service and good value for money. Enjoyed a nice lunch. Our waitress was really nice
Visiting Montreal and Le Pois Penché was our first dining experience. I ordered the duck and it was fantastic. Sat at the bar, and the service was outstanding. Will definitely come again.
I love this place, so I give them a pass on ordinary service from time to time. But that evening, they did it perfect, just perfect!
went there for lunch and had a spectacular meal with even better service. Amazing experience in a city of superb restaurants.
The food is at always good to great at Le Pois Penché. I eat at this restaurant 6 to 7 times per year. Tonight I chose to sit outside, it was a bit noisy with all the cars, but still a delightful experience. The Table d'hôte was excellent. It included a medium rare cod that was tender and super fresh. The mixed salad exhibited lettuce with many other tasty vegetables and some delightful spices. The raspberry point oysters were plump, fresh and still had the oyster water in the shell, indicating an experienced shucker. The bar serves a multitude of French inspired drinks, however I tend to stick with the Martini's, which are generally full to the brim and served in well chilled glasses. On this occasion, my first martini was perfect...so perfect I ordered a second. Unfortunately it arrived only 2/3's full and was lukewarm in the unchilled glass. I sent it back, but to no avail as the glass was still unchilled and not full as usual. It was hard to get the waiters attentions, so I left it alone. I was enjoying my evening and didn't want to disturb my lovely partner with my persistence.
Curieux établissement : service très empressé pour les touristes, mais beaucoup moins pour les locaux.
We were seated by the window, and there is very little space between the table and the chairs at the bar. I would recommend asking for an interior table. The food was very good. I had the veal tomahawk, and my wife had the fussili with shrimp.
The service was sub-par - mistakes with the orders , long wait between courses, not remembering who ordered what - I had had 3 good experiences before and I was very sorry about this because of the friends I invited - it made me feel like I failed them
Took a half hour to get drinks and the restaurant was not busy. That should have been the first sign, but we ignored it. Ordered the onion soup and oysters as appetizers and both were great. We both had steak frites for dinner, one steak was fine the other was very over cooked, so it was sent back. The second one came back raw, squishy, and cold. Did not eat it, it was sent back. Definitely would not recommend
Very good food... the moules frites where excellent.
Extremely convenient location. very good food and captures the Paris bistro atmosphere without feeling like a copy.
Duck confit was very good. Waiter was warm and friendly. Loved the bright upbeat decor.
A good venue for a relaxed business lunch. Excellent Salmon tartare, prepared perfectly.
Overall, Le Pois Penché is a pleasant expérience: the quality of the food, the nice ambiance with a great singer, the decoration, the well mannered hostesses at the entrance. The only drawback is within the service: our waiter kind but is is of average standards, does not explain well the menu for certain items, bring out the plates but short of ustensiles, and the last draw is to request us to move from our table after the main meals, to another table at the far end as we request some coffee and dessers. The reason is he need a table for a group coming for dinner, and it was about 9:30 PM. we left the restaurant about 20 minutes after, and our former table was still empty. I find it very lack of manners, especially when it is called a French Restaurant. I thought this French restaurant should train their waiter staff with more manner according to its high standard. My two companions don't take this lak of manner as an offense, But I do, as I have lived in Europe for more than 6 years, and travelled international for business intensively over the last 40 years. It is not the first time I come to this restaurant, and it was me to recommend it to my business friends to try this place, and so the nice meeting celebration turn out on a little sour note for me.
Le service était bien mais un peu snob. Nous n'avons pas apprécié que la machine suggère 30% de pourboire comme un premier choix. La nourriture était bonne de type bistrot français. Le décor et l'ambiance étaient très bien.
We had the duck special, also the ceviche special, excellent, definitely worth going back to. Would recommend.
Service is bad and food is not worth the money we paid for.
Very good food. Salmon and fish soup was great. I just regret I was served food with cheese which I can not have and I was not told my food had Parmesan in it
Overall very nice
Food, service, ambiance, all together were fantastic! We'll definately come back again!
Very good seafood. Delicious foie gras. Good service.
Very classic French bistro
It was a beautiful evening. The food was stupendous, The mood was romantic and the live singer had a beautiful voice. I will definitely be going there again.
Excellent ans beautiful resto
Great decor and good selection on the menu. We had a good round table for our group of 8. My husband and I had already eaten at this restaurant with great satisfaction.
Excellent all around
Food and staff were extremely helpful for a non French speaker
We loved the ambience, the service was great but while the food was good, it wasn’t worth what we paid for it. Not even close!
