Le Pigeon Ratings and Reviews
Great experience can't thank the chef and his team for the hospitality enough. He knew my girlfriend was vegetarian and offered a fried mushroom take of the fried chicken option and it was great. Big and rich with that heavy handed French food, was really great experience. Was visiting from Mpls and a fellow cook was very happy to eat there and little bird for my first time in Portland and after years of going through your cookbook. Thanks again, can't wait to try your new venue once it opens
Simply the best customer service I've ever had at a restaurant. We booked several weeks ahead for my husband's 30th birthday and when we got there it was clear why! It's a small space with excellent food so it's understandable why they book up early. We were seated immediately and I liked how even though some neighboring tables were near by to ours they had seating arranged for optimal privacy and comfort. I'm pregnant and asked for a non alcoholic cocktail and was served one of the best drinks I've ever had - they made me a kiwi, lime, coconut spritzer with fresh squeezed kiwi! It tasted tropical and light and I appreciated their creativity.
We split the crab and pork belly appetizer which was fantastic. The bread and butter they had at the table was fresh and addictive. For our main courses I had the seafood daily special - a salmon dish. It was very generous in terms of proportion and the flavors were spot on! My husband got the duck which he also loved. We also split a creme brulee for dessert that had such a beautiful glaze on the top.
Service was sublime - our water cups never even got halfway empty, when getting up to use the restroom you would return to your napkin freshly folded by the hostess. It was all these little attentions to detail that made the meal even more special! The cherry on top of the whole night was when our waiter brought out my boxed up leftovers he said there was a little present for us and he pulled out a onesie for our baby (that's still in my belly). It was so sweet I almost cried. It said Le Pigeon above and Dirty Birdie below. Adorable! Thanks to all the staff at Le Pigeon who made my husband's 30th birthday so memorable and I can't wait to put our baby girl in the onesie when she's born!
A very Portland location with exquisite food and amiable service. Our foodie friends enjoyed the meal immensely as did my wife and I. I had the five course tasting menu while my wife had the crab starter and a salad which she found sufficient. We did not do a wine pairing but opted for a server recommended red which with replenishment carried us through the meal. The quality of the food and service was similar to Gary Dankos in San Francisco. We will return.
It can take some effort to get a reservation as this place is still very popular. I would say worth the effort as the food was excellent. Our party of four each ordered a different entre, from fried chicken to beef tongue lasagna bourguignon and all were superb. My only hesitation is that the place is really small and tightly packed. Just makes it hard for me to focus and enjoy the meal fully.
We had a wonderful time. The food was delicious. We really liked our waiter and the staff. They were attentive and friendly. My ravioli was delightful. The menu was unique and appetizing. We want to come back and try the rest of the menu. It was truly a great experience. Thanks Le Pigeon.
I eat all over the world and this is one of my favorite restaurants. The tasting menu is fool proof. The wine list is exceptional and a good value. Order the 5 course tasting and a bottle of Oregon Pinot and enjoy! A must in a city with many many great places to eat.
Always a pleasure to dine at Le Pigeon. Dinner was fantastic as expected with faves...short rib, crud and foie gras! Great to see Chef Rucker and his wonderful staff. Danny and Anne are fantastic. Thanks again for a wonderful dining experience. We look forward to our next visit.
We had the tasting menu and the first course was a cold seafood soup that was lick your bowl clean but everything after was a disappointment. The pork belly and king crab dish was tough and confusing. The third course had grit in the snails and the salmon was terrible. When my wife said their was grit in the snails we were given attitude. The fourth Course was the Pigeon and for a signature dish it did not provide much. I honestly think it is time to reinvent your restaurant as it seems like you are riding your reputation into the ground. The fifth course was dessert and was dry and messy. The wine pairing had a better story than flavor and besides the bubbly should be taken off the menu.
Overall well cooked items. The best dish from our 5 course tasting was the tuna, well balanced flavours and very appetizing. The pork ragu was tasty but heavily sauced. The two meat dishes were okay, we both found elements we disliked. We found there dishes to be overly complicated. Sometimes it worked however on many occasions it detracted from their dishes.
Absolutely wonderful, flavorful, beautiful food. Don't let the casual decor fool you, this is serious place, serious about the food & service. My app was sweetbreads-a gorgeous display of deep fried meat, with fruit, sauce & a stunning presentation. Both my wife & I had beef Bourguinon, super tender beef in a deep dark sauce. Yum! Dessert was creme brulee, but with a side of dried cherries & (maybe) a creme patisserie. Reservations a must & hard to get. Do it!
The assertive lack of elegance (a blatantly uncomfortable table and a din of noise that might force out hostage takers) is more than outweighed by service that is both friendly and professional and by the food, which is extraordinary. I would strongly recommend a tasting menu, since the dishes I enjoyed the most were not ones I would have ordered a la carte. Foie gras profiteroles? Who knew? May not be the perfect experience for everyone, but a foodie's delight.
My husband and I were not aware of this particular establishment. Our daughter gave us a gift card to try out the restaurant and we went for our 36th Wedding Anniversary which was a couple of weeks prior to our visit. We both enjoyed the ambience and the food. My husband, who almost never compliments food, was quite enthralled with the myriad of flavors in the dishes we had. We had a tasty duck appetizer and for the main dishes he had a beef dish and I had chicken with shrimp. We were stuffed! And felt our pallets and senses were quite satisfied with all of the lovely flavors of mint and oregano, and unexpected crunch of nuts. A delightful experience! We will recommend it to our friends!
