Le Petit Sud
Delicious French tapas style food & drink. Good efficient & polite service. It was warm enough to be sitting outside but it is on a busy road so quite noisy.
Such an authentic little restaurant. Feels as if you’ve stepped into France!
We booked for 5 people, had two children. There was no room for 5 people, and effectively could not take children.
Very nice charcuterie. Could be a bit more generous with the cheese selection. Overall a very nice meal
We had a great time. Very friendly place. Will visit again.
Something didn’t suit me well. Feeling very bad today. Staff was nice and kind
Good food and service.
And very convenient for the Albert Hotel.
I've had to leave it a week before writing this review, because our experience of Le Petit Sud was so horrific that I've needed the intervening time to calm down. The service was, put mildly, terrible. Getting a glass of wine at the start before our other guests arrived took 20 minutes, despite there being very few people in the bar area; even then, my brother had to go and collect the wine directly from the staff. The delay between ordering and then receiving substantive food was absurd. The cheese board we ordered was brought out reasonably promptly; but in the relative timescales we're talking about, where I think I'm *still* waiting for something we ordered, that's not a compliment by any stretch. Anything that required the application of heat to edible matter took so long that one could be forgiven for thinking that the chef (if he/she can be so called) was indeed the first of the homo genus to adopt the controlled use of fire and its delay was a direct causal link of him/her having to DISCOVER fire before cooking our supper. In the end, our guests had to leave, unfed (save for a few morsels of cheese that would be met with derision from a famished church mouse). We attempted to cancel that which we had not received and was no longer wanted, but we were told it "was coming" (again, a phrase which was entirely relative) and that we would not be charged for it. However, they did try to charge for it. This wouldn't necessarily have been so bad, had the food tasted any good. The burger provided tasted like what I presume a pureed wet-suit tastes like.
Lest there be any doubt, I shan't be returning. In fact, were Le Petit Sud by chance to be the only place in London that is impervious to the effects of a 10 mega-tonne nuclear warhead, I think I'd rather welcome the sweet, vaporising bliss of annihilation than I would repeat the torment of trying to get a glass of wine and a passable meal here. Which is in one way a shame, as the wine was really rather pleasant.
Thank you for taking the considerable amount of time you spent to write this review. After reviewing the CCTV of the evening we do see that there was a delay in the burger being brought to you as there was an issue with the till system, which was rectified on the night, we can only apologise. As a long standing, well respected restaurant in such a diligent area of London, I do believe our many regular customers would disagree with your review, however we will take your points on board.
Small, charming, simple. Adequate food, friendly if somewhat amateur service. Somewhere between a cafe and a restaurant. Very convenient for the Royal Albert Hall. French-run (near the French Embassy)
Casual food but not good for value. Good service and good ambience.
Disastrous experience. Waiter completely clueless when we (party of 3) showed up for our pre-RAH reservation; ditto for another party that arrived soon after. After some handwringing they improvised some seats downstairs, where they were setting up for some sort of buffet or reception. After much waiting and no waiter to be seen, went upstairs to at least get menus. Ditto some time later for water glasses. Ordered easiest possible items on menu - charcuterie and cheese boards - yet an hour after arrival, still no sight of food. Emphasized that at this point we'd need to leave in a half hour to make our show. When food finally arrived (OK meats, very uninspiring bread), they'd apparently forgotten our truffle salami order. By this time, a quick or even a moderately competent waiter/establishment would've perhaps offered a glass of wine or some such as compensation. But no, bill included all, as well as a service charge. Complete joke.
Lovely place for a catch up with friends. Will definitely visit again.
When I arrived they did not have my booking! Disjointed service. Sufficient staff (2) but didn't work as a team and one did not speak any English. We ordered our drinks but we had to remind them to bring them to us. Only 8 patrons present at time. No mustard or mint sauce for lamb cutlets etc . Very disappointing and service already included!
Good place to go before the Albert Hall. Great wine list and small selection of good food
I had booked this restaurant on Open table for Sunday morning for 6 people. When we arrived it was well and truly closed. So why did it take my booking. We checked on open table and it was still taking bookings even though it was closed. Luckily we found somewhere else.
tasty food and reasonable prices for London- what's not to like?
Awful service, we ordered two plates (cheese and fries) and although the cheese was sent to us, the fries were forgotten, without apology. Our bill (which we had to trek down the waiter to receive) came out with with multiple errors on it, resulting in a £75 bill for £45 worth of food. There are so many other restaurants in the area, I would avoid this one.
We enjoyed a beautiful meal before our concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Our server was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu.
good atmosphere, friendly staff and the food were fine.
We had a delicious, relaxed lunch here before going to the Albert Hall. Family of five (kids are teenage/ 20's) who loved the platters and bruschettas. Great service and friendly atmosphere.
Music was ridiculous! Had very vulgar language. Although the waiters were very nice we were never offered more prosecco on our bottomless brunch. Instead had to keep going up to the bar.
Wonderful food wine and service
Super staff and a healthy and tasty meal
Our waiter was just as attentive as necessary, not butting in but not leaving us with no service. The food was fantastic, our server let us combine parts of the charcuterie and cheese plates for the same price. This is an underappteciated gem, without a doubt.
Whilst the food and drink were perfectly acceptable, I'm afraid that the entire experience was ruined by rude, arrogant and dismissive service. The gentleman who was on duty last Friday night (18/8) clearly had no desire to be there, no interest in his guests and an ability - unmatched in my experience - to ignore all entirely standard requests. It took the edge off the entire experience and was a salutary lesson on the importance of good service to a restauarant experience.
Ideally situated for the Albert Hall, staff very friendly and helpful. Food tasty and well presented, unfortunately the drinks were expensive.
Would go back
Typically French service, with 5-10mins between any request for a drink/cutlery/the bill before anything happened. Considering we were one of 3 groups in the restaurant - AND there were 3 staff on, was not ideal especially when in a rush for the Royal Albert Hall - for which it is the perfect distance. They also had no house wine (meaning be sold a v much pricier bottle), no truffle sausage, and none of the specials.
However besides that, really nice food, great little setting and outside would have been amazing if it was sunny. Perfect for a long drawn out lunch/dinner with friends or someone special with good wine and food - not if have time restraints!!
Well located for the nearby Royal Albert Hall, we met for pre-concert cocktails and tapas. Lovely, friendly French staff and we recommend the French 75s, they certainly got our evening off to a flying start. Great music and a limited, but delicious menu. We chose a couple of sharing platters. Ideal location for post-work drinks, meeting friends and to soak up the Southern France vibe.
Very good service, a bit loud but the waiters makes up for it. Excellent atmosphere. recommended drink place for one around the corner with your Bs.
