French

Le Petit Paris is a casual French bistro where comfort and conversation are key to the dining experience. Head Chef and Owner Alain Sutbon greets every guest and sets the tone for the evening over a glass of his favorite red wine. Located near Chicago's famous Miracle Mile, Le Petit Paris has become a go-to haven for tired tourists and locals after a long day of shopping.

The food at Le Petit Paris is described as approachable French cuisine. Diners can try classic dishes like a Coq a Vin Rouge, which is chicken in a red wine sauce served with bacon, carrots, mushrooms and onions. If guests want a true taste of France, they can choose with the iconic duck a l'orange, served in a grand mariner sauce. Le Petit Paris also keeps an extensive collection of French wines for guests to pair with each meal.

We have always adored this quaint little restaurant. This visit they did not have a record of our reservation, which I made on OpenTable & was confirmed. We waited in the charming bar, but it is need of a goood cleaning. Our waiter was lovely, but was overworked & the restaurant was clearly understaffed. The food was fabulous!!! This was the saving grace of our overall experience.

This is a little jewel. We dined here on a Monday night. The owner waited on us and was delightful. He had a special that evening of rack of lamb which was delicious. Drinks were reasonably priced and the total bill including drinks and a dessert we shared was $83 before tip. We will go again. The decor is a bit dated and funky but feels a little bit like a Paris bistro. You really cannot beat the good quality food for the price. Fun evening.

Quite a few menu items were not available for our Sunday evening visit, and the wine list was very limited.

Most of the items we ordered were prepared well and very tasty.
We were disappointed with the Escargot en croute. Pastry excellent. I never found a snail.

The red wine from the limited list was very good.

Overall, a nice experience.

A streeterville gem, I discovered this wonderful place about 5 years ago. The food is consistently excellent and you are served by the owner himself! Not a very romantic place but wonderfully funky in decor, almost Faulty Towers in style. A cozy bar with a phenomenal jukebox - just remember to tell the owner to turn it on. We've been there a dozen times and never disappointed.

A lovely, intimate dining area with formal white tablecloths and a relaxed atmosphere. They were out of duck a l'orange so we had the steak frites and the whitefish. Everything was excellent and we loved the atmosphere for a romantic date night.

Our favorite Chicago restaurant! Recalls the best of charming restaurants in the neighborhoods of Paris and greater France: fresh ingredients prepared to perfection and presented beautifully without artiface. It is a gem!

Le Petit Paris is a very special restaurant--small, quiet, great food and ambiance, terrific value. Alain makes you feel like you are on the Left Bank and a special guest of his.

We had pate as an appetizer and it was very good. Followed by carrot ginger soup, also very good. I had a filet prepared just right. My table mates had Coq au vin and lamb and they were both quite satisfied. We also had 2 desserts, red and white wine and my wife had a martini. Everything was terrific and a very good value.

We stumbled on to this restaurant while walking around downtown Chicago.
We had dinner there with my wife and two daughters.
I am from Belgium and we are "foodies".
The food was outstanding.
My wife and girls enjoyed an excelletn bottle of Bourgogne.
Great experience, we shall return!

*Furniture needs updating---the cushions on two of the couches we tried were shot.
*Our waiter was more interested in taking care of his regular diners.
*Salmon was overcooked, when we mentioned this to the owner, he suggested that we should have asked for sauce.
Chicago needs more good French bistros. This is not one of them.

We found the owner to be charming and the food was excellent. It is a small restaurant but has a very diverse menu; the prices were quite reasonable as was the wine by-the-glass. It was conveniently located to our hotel. The serving sizes were exactly right for us; if you expect huge portions, then perhaps you would be disappointed but we thought it was perfect.

I set up a 730 dinner reservation and when we showed up it took the owner about two minutes to impolitely greet us. I mentioned our 7:30 reservation to no avail. Once we were there we looked around didn’t like the smell of the restaurant and he hurled us into a sidebar with no bartender. We sat ready to order a beverage and saw no sign of our host for five minutes. We got up and left a mildewy pungent smell, I could easily say worse and they lost a two hundred dollar tab.

This is an excellent restaurant. I have had several of the offerings on the menu and they have all been very good. The service is also very good and the Owner himself is usually present in the dining room. And an outstanding aspect of the place is that one can actually carry on a conversation with other people at the table.

Went for dinner with my girlfriend on a Saturday evening.
The food was great yet wasn’t crowded. Had an old French ambiance and the lights are really dim. I initially thought the food was going to be quite mediocre. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the food. My gf had coq au vin and I had liver. They were cooked to perfection and were both delicious. We also got fries and they weren’t overly salted which I hate and was served really hot, which is important to me. Overall, it’s a hidden gem and will definitely visit again in the future.

My only reservation about making a review is that it may make Le Petit Paris tough to get into in the future. This was my third time in the restaurant in 2 months. It is fantastic. The French Onion soup is the best I have had and the apple tart is terrific. The main course was also great. If you are looking for a quick in and out, this place is not for you. This is basically a one man show. The owner does it all. If you are looking for a place that will remind you of a European dining experience with great food, look no further - but keep it a secret.

In Chicago for three nights, we tried Le Petit Paris and it was wonderful. After a busy day of shopping for the ladies and a Cub's game for the guys, it was very nice to find a quiet and relaxing restaurant in Downtown Chicago. The Rack of Lamb was spectacular, Steak & Frites excellent and Great Lakes Whitefish Super! Highly recommend for an excellent & quiet Dinner!
