About Le Parisien

Le Parisien is the go-to neighborhood bistrot for Murray Hill, offering classic French food like steak frites, escargots and moules marinieres, paired with a well-edited list of french wines.
Chef Johnathan Masse brings his expert knowledge of comfort food, having most recently served as sous chef at the Waverly Inn, and also for Chef Jonathan Waxman of Barbuto. Along with owner Christian Merand, formerly of Jean-Claude in Soho, they have created a restaurant that focuses on serving consistently great traditional food with a lively and unmistakeably French atmosphere.

Also open daily for lunch and brunch on weekends.

Nice little neighborhood spot, super nice staff, great French cuisine. Very basic decor but makes up for that in great value!

This is the second time we've been to Le Parisien. The food is magnificent, the portions are just right, the atmosphere is a sort of muted- lively while cozy and intimate, and the wait staff is excellent. Le Parisien is a little oasis in the center of the bustling city.

Food was good as usual. But the special NYE dinner wasn't very special, and was relatively expensive. So next year, I'd recommend either preparing some truly festive NYE options - felt magnon, duck, posters, for gras, etc. , or holding to the usual men u, which is far better than the current NYE one.

We've been to Le Parisian several times recently and each time the service has been excellent, our meals delicious. The place is small and very French. Tables are close but we didn't mind. The food has been consistently delicious and satisfying. The mussels and fish dishes are well seasoned and well matched sides. A great neighborhood bistro for a casual meal with friends and family. Good reasonable wine list. We'll be back!

We really enjoyed out meal! Due to Tunnel traffic, the restaurant honored our reservation despite being 30 minutes late. The portions were adequate and we enjoyed the Escargot, filet carpaccio , Steak frites and the skate. It was well prepared classic french bistro cuisine. I felt that the Onion soup was a bit too sweet. The waiter did not smile at all and seemed quite distant until we left. Another table noted his unhappy attitude. However the food was otherwise very good and it would be a neighbor staple if we lived in Murray Hill. Well done!!

Le Parisien is a neighborhood favorite, though it is not what it was in six months ago. Likely there is now a cook who is not well versed in preparing French food. I’ve never eaten caramelized onions that were so sweet they overwhelmed the steak frites and the French onion soup. Staff has a Parisien attitude without the food to back it up.

Lunched at Le Parisien, a first visit, and totally delighted by it. This a no-frills working restaurant that looks and feels like a genuine French bistro. No affectation, slightly shabby furnishings, warm and tiny. The place was full but no one was being rushed. Lots of people eating mussels (done for different ways) and "steak frites," and the frites looked extraordinarily good. We ate excellent mushroom soup with a dash of truffle oil, followed by breast of chicken for one of us, "Croque Monsieur" (ham and cheese toasted sandwich) for the other. Both well satisfied. The wines are few but real, very palatable and so sensibly available by the half-litre, not simply by the glass or bottle. Our half-litre of Cotes de Rhone was a pleasant surprise. Prices were extraordinarily reasonable for mid-town Manhattan. The ambiance is funky, old posters and a tin ceiling that has seen far better days. The two waitstaff worked very hard but I saw no one getting edgy about a wait. We were served promptly not rushed to leave. Coffee was excellent. Inevitably in such a tiny place the tables were ridiculously close together, but that was a small price to pay for a fine lunch.

Although I have worked close to this neighborhood for years this is the first time I have eaten at La Parisien. It's a very small space with seating for about 24 people and the feeling of an old time neighborhood restaurant where the food is more important than the decor. The menu is classic French bistro style with and includes soups and salads, steak frites, moules, and other classic fare. I had the skate which was beautifully prepared with a crispy skin, sitting on top of perfectly cooked green beans. Others in our party were also happy with their meal choices. The host, also the only waiter, was competent and attentive. I would highly recommend this gem.

We had the perfect date night here this past Friday evening. Our reservation was one of the first, and we were seated at the small table in the front window. The service was great, the food and wine were both delicious, and the weather cooperated with a gentle snowfall outside. If you can, I would recommend the tiny front table for two in front. It's seperated from the other diners, giving the two of you a private dining experience. Couldn't have asked for a better evening. Thank you, Le Parisien.

Le Parisien is a cozy French restaurant that has a lot of character. My boyfriend and I ordered the French Onion Soup, Escargots, Mussels in White Wine Sauce and Steak Frites - we enjoyed every single bite. This restaurant may not be glamorous and seating is a bit cramped, but food is affordable and delicious so I would definitely recommend.

We've been to La Parisian several times and always enjoy the delicious and authentic French cuisine. The menu is not too big or too small but just right. I had the roasted artichoke salad and it was well prepared and the mussels with tomatoes and chorizo and amazing fries. Cant' wait to go back!

Loved the mussels! The broth was so flavorful we wanted to drink it! Sesame tuna is yummy and the mushrooms have a lemon flavor. Chicken special was completely eaten as well as the salmon. Friendly service and fair prices. It is small so go early or make a reservation!

This is a lovely, romantic little place and the service was cordial and efficient; my calves liver was perfectly done. The restaurant is so small, however, that once it is filled the noise level can seriously detract from the atmosphere. A quibble, though.

Le Parisian never dissapoints! This tiny place is like a portal to Paris. The food, the ambiance, the people, and the mood while all wonderful do not hold a candle to the excellent food. This last visit I tried something new, the skate fish and I am glad I did. Inventive, delishious, and the perfect portion made it a must order again. Be prepared to be sitting in a tight setting and you will get to know your neighboring diners well.

Disappointing food. Salmon was way over cooked; it was obvious that it had been previously cooked as the food was brought out in 5 minutes from ordering. Worst salmon dish i have ever had in a restaurant.

Only one complaint. Freezing cold, arrived 5:10 for a 5:30 reservation and they would not allow us inside as they opened at 5:30. It was a bad way to start off the evening, but they made up for it in a great dining experience.
