About Le Parisien

Le Parisien is the go-to neighborhood bistrot for Murray Hill, offering classic French food like steak frites, escargots and moules marinieres, paired with a well-edited list of french wines.
Chef Johnathan Masse brings his expert knowledge of comfort food, having most recently served as sous chef at the Waverly Inn, and also for Chef Jonathan Waxman of Barbuto. Along with owner Christian Merand, formerly of Jean-Claude in Soho, they have created a restaurant that focuses on serving consistently great traditional food with a lively and unmistakeably French atmosphere.

Also open daily for lunch and brunch on weekends.

Wish it was in our neighborhood.

My wife and I recently spent about a month in Paris, after living in New York City for less than two years. The highlight of the trip for us was the abundance of good, reasonably affordable food. There's just not enough of that in Manhattan: there are good restaurants here, and cheap restaurants, but the two categories rarely overlap.

Le Parisien offers affordable--not cheap, but affordable--authentic French food in a lively setting. Noise levels were a little on the loud side, but not so loud that it was difficult to carry on a conversation. The kitchen wasn't fast, but also wasn't too slow: the food came out at a very relaxed pace. They don't have a wine list so much as a (n apparently) rotating lineup of a few choice, affordable bottles--not intimidating and makes choosing easy.

Great experience overall. We'll be back.

This is a fun, cozy neighborhood bistro. The food is consistently good. The hosts are friendly and gracious, welcoming but not intrusive.

In a neighborhood that has been described as a gastronomic wasteland, this little restaurant stands out as an exception. Expect typical French dishes, well prepared and efficiently served. Yes, it's small, it's cramped, it can get noisy-ish when full up, but it's fun to go to and the menu's a welcome departure from the glut of Irish bars, sports bars, and occasional Mexican and Thai taste-alikes that typify the neighborhood.

We ate early as we've noticed that this little restaurant gets packed later in the evening and the noise is able to ruin a great meal.

Very good food. Very small restaurant. Stingy with tables. Three people had to share a small 2 person table because they didn't want to waste an extra seat. We were asked to move after one person couldn't come. Not too welcoming an environment. Best of luck to them.

My partner and I came in from each our ends of the world to meet in New York and have a special dinner together. We're both foodies and Frenchies and scout out our dinning adventures prior to going. This was a truly memorable meal, we split the endive/walnut and blue cheese salad and had the lamb and the steak frites for mains and the mille feuille for dessert. I can't remember to have had such an authentic and well-prepared French meal outside of France (and where a medium rare steak really is rare/medium!) It's a tiny place but somehow there always seemed to be room for an extra guest at a table. The ambiance is intimate and loud - just how it should be. My very best recommendations, we'll surely be coming back next time we're in NYC.

We wisely made a reservation for 4 for a Wednesday evening dinner. Le Parisien is a small, popular local French bistro. It’s rare to find open seating for dinner.
The food and wine is always good. I’ve had most of the items on the dinner menu and never been disappointed (except maybe for the portion size of the duck confit).

Unfortunately, the server didn't tell us what spices were in the dishes even though we asked it was a constant surprise and NOT a good one. As in food allergies etc. Also, how do you mess up mashed potatoes, they tasted like they were out of a box. Too bad, we had heard such good things. Upon telling the waitress about the food repeatedly there was no care or wanting to make things better, instead it was a shrug and a so what! There are a million amazing places to eat in the city with lovely service, excellent food and care for the patrons, this is NOT one of them.

The appetizers were very good- a combination of carpaccio, classic french onion soup, duck pate. The main courses proved to be hit or miss- the steak and fries, a french bistro staple was tough and hard to chew on. The liver was requested medium -rare and was brought in well done. While the waiter quickly requested a replacement and the second plate was properly cooked as requested, the veal itself was poor quality. The veal had multiple muscle tissue crossing it and was hard to cut and chew. The desserts - creme brule and apple tart cake wer good. Overall, the main course ruined the overall impression, hence i would not recommend the place.

Everything from the food to the waitstaff was awesome. It was a bistro with friendly flair. Food was delicious! We had the trout - perfectly crispy and delicious. Reasonably priced good bottle of white wine and from beginning to end quite a nice experience! Would definitely go again!

We just happened to be in the area and found this lovely and authentic gem by happenstance. We were lucky to get a table and were glad we did. Truly reminded us of eating in a small family restaurant in Paris.

We were seated within a few minutes of our arrival but had arrived before our reservation time. The food was wonderful, we had the fish and the pasta dishes. The service was efficient but we weren't rushed. It was a charming restaurant and we would definitely return if we are back in the area.

I was craving French and this place does not disappoint. Food was DELICIOUS! My steak frites were cooked to perfection and the parpardelle was out of this world. I wish the wine list was a little more vast. It was also way to hot in there, very uncomfortable temperature. But even with that it was such good food that the temperature was bearable.

Love it. Real people who can be remarkably accommodating.

I had 7:30 dinner reservations and decided to tell a business contact who needed to see me to meet me there an hour before hand.

Well, we sat outside (a perfect table!) and chatted over a few glasses of Rose and everyone was perfectly patient with us. Eventually at 7:45 I ended my 'meeting' and my friend joined me for dinner, which was excellent, as always. (We had the special and the Steak Tartare - which is always special!) The Tarte Tatin is among the top 5 in a city of Tarte Tatin!

Superb in its class: a real neighborhood gem in Murray Hill. Excellent French bistro food and atmosphere--I had the special of the day: a nice fresh piece of cod baked and topped with a fresh mango salsa and served on a bed of cauliflower puree. My only advice to the chef would be less mustard in that cauliflower puree--let the cauliflower shine through!
