I discovered this gem when I met the owner Sergeui Kourokhtine at another bar over a drink. After a brief conversation, I made the reservation to dine there the next day for their tasting menu.
It is a very small (22 seats), charming room with space for up to three people right in front of the kitchen. I had the pleasure of chatting with the chef (Cam Nelson) who was very personable and friendly. The food on offer was absolutely excellent - their tasting menu is created on the spot based on your preferences. They offer wine pairings to go with the dishes which I highly recommend.
I have been back there numerous times since my initial solo visit with group of normally very particular friends all of whom raved over the food, service and the overall experience.
Their normal corkage is $30 which is waived on Wednesdays.
Recently the original Chef Cam Nelson has left to pursue other opportunities, but the mantle has been ably picked up by his sous Chef Stephanie. Last night she made a absolutely magnificent Turbot which was delicious and praiseworthy.
Excellent as always. The tasting menu was amazing - a combo of menu must - haves and fun picks.
Le Notre is our favourite secret spot but shhh... don’t tell any one.
Very disappointing. Trying too hard. Atmosphere a bit uptight and owner needs to relax, he made us uncomfortable..
We both had the prix fixe with the wine pairings and were impressed with both the exceptional quality of the food / wine and the service. Everything was impeccable and we will be back. Thank you for a special evening.
Outstanding and excellent French food: will be coming back repeatedly!
Lovely service. Alana was a well informed and attentive server.
A hidden gem - very thoughtful if limited menu. Taste experience is excellent, service is attentive but reserved. Chef could push those taste boundaries a little, the talent is there!
Carefully prepared delicious Parisien based food using local ingredients wherever possible. A small menu but a wide range of choice . Lovely wine selection with more bottles available from the private wine cabinet, bin ends, one off wines from various regions of the world. Would happily return to this lovely small restaurant.
Great food, great service
The restaurant was exceptional in all ways. The service was attentive and caring, the atmosphere comfortable and intimate. The food was simply outstanding.
Sergei was very attentive and professional. Food was very tasty. An excellent dining experience.
Wonderful! We did the tasting menu with wine pairings and enjoyed every bit. Gracious and knowledgeable service. Don’t miss the French onion soup risotto
Excellent personalized service. Lovely presentation and delicious food. Will go back regularly as this place deserves to survive
Lovely atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. Fun drink menu. Looking forward to going back to try the tasting menu with wine pairings.
A lovely intimate restaurant with a relaxed style, great service and excellent food. There is no place quite like this in Toronto. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Overall a good experience. the food was good. We ordered Beef tartar, frites...both great. We got the Plat Pour Deux with the lamb sausages which was just good. Next time we would order something else.
Fantastic food --particularly the duck breast. Quite good cocktails and a really good wine recommendation. Engaged waiter, who seemed conversational even though he was clearly running a lot of tables at the time. Only minor hesitation was the price of the escargot appetizer, which seemed a bit excessive for what you got (though they were textbook perfect). Plan to return frequently.
A quieter, intimate spot off Harbord, my wife and I made our second visit and had time to tuck into the Chef's Menu. After a brief conversation, you get a sampling of items catered to your interests, each dish was outstanding. I'd strongly recommend the wine pairings as well, they're well thought-out and elevate each dish.
Serguei, the maître d' is also a star. Attentive, knowledgeable and professional, I'd gladly put any dining experience in his hands. Where many similar restaurants in town veer stuffy and slightly condescending, he keeps things at a tight, comfortable level.
Looking forward to returning already.
Had a great time, great food, would return again. The French onion risotto, steak& frites and both desserts were excellent. Duck was interesting too. Didn’t try the beef tartar but I heard it’s very good.
Our second visit and both times very good food and great service.
Service was a bit pretentious, and the food was so so.
Awesome service and food
Will be bacj
Ambiance was great as was the service. The food quality was great but may not be suited to everyone's tastes.
Even at the WInterliscious pace, the serving staff were very friendly and attentive. A great experience.
My companion and I were completely satisfied with the food, the service, and the ambience, and we look forward to returning for another dinner soon.
The restaurant is spectacular from start to finish! I had called to tell them that we might run late, and they managed to accommodate our reservations so we wouldn’t feel rushed. The escargots was cooked to perfection, we asked for more bread just to dip the sauce! The steak frites reminded me of the time we had in Paris. The selection of wine was small and unique. Every one would be paired well with the food, so you couldn’t pick a bad bottle. Dessert was light and decadent. I would come back here again.
The food was great and the staff ware very skilled, friendly and professional.
I took my wife and adult children for Winterlicous. Two had excellent steak tartare as appetizers. Two had escargot which were perfectly prepared. Two of us had grilled salmon and the others has steak and frites. Beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. Desserts were also excellent. Our first time at Le Notre Bistro but certainly not our last. Highly recommend.
Absolutely adorned this restaurant. Went with a group of 6 friends - all women 45+ for the first time. Service was top notch. All of us had the tasting menu which was beautiful french food - wonderful flavours and presentation. We all agreed we would come back with our spouses. Ambience was warm and inviting for a winter's evening.
Such an incredible meal, outstandingly perfect service I don’t think it gets any better. Great ambiance and extremely knowledgeable staff. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings and it did not disappoint. Not to mention the value is amazing. Each dish was excellent, I will definitely be back!
Excellent, knowledgeable and PATIENT service + wonderful ambiance made this a night to remember - let alone the food! Fresh and delicious. Very lucky to have this gem in our neighborhood.
Amazing food, atmosphere and service! We did the fall tasting menu and loved every item on it.
This place is a gem. Had tasting menu with wine pairing. It was awesome and we'll executed. Small place that is worth every penny. Well done. We will return.
This was our second visit. It was as delightful as the first. Can’t wait to go back.
Service was exceptional. Food was delicious!
Tried this restaurant for the first time and it won't be our last time. Great for date night and locally sourced food. Cheeses are ridiculously good and service is top notch. Make a reservation though, seating is limited. The ambiance is perfect for a neighborhood gem like this bistro.
Thoughtful. Creative. Imaginative. Generous. Welcoming. Thrilling. Delicious.
This is some of the best food and service I have ever experienced.
Please eat here! You will thank me.
Always a pleasure! Lovely service, absolutely delicious dishes from start to finish. We had steak tartare and escargots, lamb with chanterelles and duck cassoulet with pork belly (which was a deconstructed version), and the tarte tatin for dessert. We enjoyed every single bite!
