I was looking forward to eating dinner at Le Neuf with a friend who had recently returned from Paris. I booked a table online through Open Table, and got the reminder notice the day prior. When we arrived at the restaurant as planned at 7 pm (on a Tues), the place was closed. No sign on the door explaining why. I had not received any call or email telling me that they would be closed. I tried calling the phone number on OT listing, and got a voicemail recording asking me to leave a message. I was disappointed to not have been advised in advance of whatever problem they were experiencing. Or did they sense it was not going to be a busy night and thought they would cut their losses and just not open?

Disappointing. Bland food. One server at lunch -- too busy to serve us most of the time.

It really was a cafe as the name suggested and not a restaurant. We had to ask for the music to be turned down as it was not allowing any conversation. The food was acceptable but in a seafood stew one would expect the shrimp to be peeled. To me this negligence ruined the meal.

Interestingly enough, as much as Canada is bilingual, I couldn't find many authentic French restaurants (compared with NYC, where you find them at almost every corner). This is one of them. I had what I usually have in Paris at a café: un éclair au chocolat et un café viennois. They were brilliant! I am looking forward to trying their brunch (Croque Madame) which I somehow didn't have in Paris (I only tried Croque Monsieur). But I'd definitely try their soupe d'oignon - my absolute favorite. Do give them a try, it's a nice change of moods :)

Definitely the most authentic French cafe experience that we've found in Toronto. Set on a quant park square, this family-run French Cafe offers classics like steak frites, rustic pâtés creme brûlée and macaroons. Highly recommended for a taste of France in Toronto.

Not what we were expecting. It's attached to a hostel, and the staff were more interested in sitting on the Terasse and drinking, smoking and chatting with friends. Service was inattentive, and generally very poor. Food was over cooked and and everything was soaked in oil. Will never go back. If you are looking for good French food, look elsewhere.

Le Neuf was a real find with good food, a young and energetic staff and a strong and unpretentious French presence mere steps from the downtown core. It's small, but well considered menu featured classic bistro dishes prepared well and paired with simple and excellent wines. The desserts were outstanding. All-in-all a great little restaurant.

I had made a reservation for a table outside, but when we showed up, all the tables were occupied. The waiter suggested sitting at a table for four which already had two occupants. Finally, we pulled an out of use table into place and seated ourselves. NOT good service.

We very much enjoyed our lunch with demanding out-of-town friends. They were also quite impressed with the food and, especially, the atmosphere. We will definitely return for another visit.
