Very nice restaurant, good food, nice ambiance, the service was o.k. but the wait staff was very inexperienced.
This time, the entree I had chosen was not as good as I had experienced in the past. I guess we can all have an off day.
We had reservations on 9/21 to celebrate my adult son's birthday. We had a lovely time. Food and service was excellent. Not our first visit to the restaurant and definitely not our last!
Wanted a nice birthday dinner for an introverted wife but with our teenage kids that wasn’t wildly expensive. We also wanted a place that wasn’t too loud that we couldn’t sit and just enjoy each other’s company. Since it was a Saturday night we always dislike a lot of dining establishments as it just feels like you’re being pushed out the door to turn the tables - so strategically I picked a French restaurant thinking if the waiters were European they would understand, plus my wife is a fan of French cooking. We got exactly what we were looking for; Tasty food, thoughtfully prepared and a cozy ambience. The waiter was quite professional. As a few others have said - the steak cut was a bit cheap - but hey so is the price...and the kids got steak frites but it’s a large cut, not the most tender but they said it was tasty. I had the bouillabaisse and the wife got mussels and we both enjoyed them. The menu has a lot of choices that i would certainly return for. The kids ate some escargot as an appetizer and the Desserts were well made. All in all a nice place and we will return for a normal night out.
Service and food were good except for the mussels which were small.
This was my 3rd meal at le Monde in recent months. It is a good choice in the Barnard/Columbia neighborhood. the food was very good. My quinoa salad with shrimp was yummy. My friend's oriental chicken salad, she said , was good but she left a fair amount on the plate. Unfortunately, the service was sooooooooooooo slow. at a busy lunch hour they need more staff.
Excellent value. Delicious food. Wonderful menu and huge portions.
Le Monde is a great neighborhood standby in Morningside Heights. Trendier places come and go. So it’s nice to know that this place endures.
Reliable service and tasty, healthy options. A go to place for business lunches on the Upper West Side.
Just an ok restaurant. Nothing bad, nothing particularly outstanding either
Everything about my Saturday brunch this past weekend was perfect. Service was impeccable. Plenty of outdoor seating on a glorious eighty degree day. Classy UWS vibes. Cocktails were lovely. I got the Belgian waffle; my friend got the steak and eggs. 10/10 — can’t wait to come back! Felt like we were on holiday even though we’ve been living in NYC for years :)
Inconsistent at best, we tried this place on the recommendation of our Airbnb hosts. I cannot say I would return: the French onion soup looks good in photos but was watery and in need of salt; the coq a vin was similarly watery and quite vinegary; the Friday special of scallop risotto was the best thing we had, but was more like cheesy rice than a proper risotto. Nothing about our meal made it worth the more than $100.
Great food! However the service was extremely slow - they needed servers!
Great round table in the window for 5 people. Food was excellent. Service exceptional slow. Had to approach hostess to get a final bill.
Most of our dinner was bland and unremarkable but the duck confit stood out as the worse. The duck leg was luke warm and it sat on a bed of potatoes and salad that tasted like leftovers: limp frisee, mushy potatoes mixed in with thick chewy slivers that were ossified from being warmed up one time too many. The service was slow and slightly amateurish. I had remembered this place fondly from a couple of visits a few years ago, but this was very disappointing!
It was expensive. Also ac didn’t work on the bar wide of the restaurant and the tap beers didn’t work. That said, staff was great. Food, fantastic.
I ate at Le Monde with my dear childhood friend and niece to celebrate my 65th birthday. The atmosphere was festive, the service was wonderful and the food was excellent. Every dish was served with a a great presentation and absolutely delicious. I had a magnificent time at Le Monde and would recommend this restaurant for the casual to the elegant diner - and will spread the word with all of my friends and family!
I have been here many times. Grade was pending. Food not up to par. Restaurant was freezing. I will wait a while before returning.
I like the Le Monde Restaurant but I had never been there for lunch before and it was different from the evening. I came for lunch and I was given a Brunch menu and I was arrogantly told that was it, only Brunch where the meu is different, thus I as not pleased.
Excellent food with relaxed atmosphere and gracious service. Great place for a special occasion.
I'd eaten here before and had a good experience so came back. I ordered the steak medium rare (but not rare) with the sauce on the side. My friend ordered mussels. My steak came smothered in sauce and rare. My friend's mussels came ice cold. We sent the food back. My steak came back with the sauce scraped off the meat....the french fries took up most of the plate...no sauce on the side.
Was very hard to get the waiter's attention. Very hard. We had to almost get up to flag him down.
The bread was delicious...and they give you the tiniest pat of butter for a basket of delicious bread.
Won't go back soon!
Had a very nice early meal with family and a friend. Food was delicious and reasonable. Kevin was a kind waiter- the wait between was a little long but overall, nice place!
Not many decent choices in Morningside Heights. Bored service. Ordinary food.
LeMonde is a comfortable, neighborly place with outdoor seating and a bar and a commodious dining room. The food is solid, good. The staff is a delight!
Food excellent, service so-so. A lovely atmosphere. Good place if you are in Morningside Heights.
Upper Westsiders love this place. The staff is kind to those who linger!
The Duck Confit was delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and will definitely be eating there again. The service was a bit slow initially but overall the experience was good and the food certainly made up for any inconvenience with slow service.
Great experience sitting outside along Broadway eating French classics with picturesque buildings all around. Gave our party a St Germain feeling.
I would recommend Le Monde to a friend because I have faith the food remains very good, and I have faith that the service can improve. I've been going to this restaurant for over ten years, and the food and service have always been outstanding. This time, however, the service was awful. I booked a reservation a week in advance and specified that I wanted an outdoor table. I arrive at 6 and the table wasn't ready. Five minutes later the table still wasn't ready, and the hostess seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. I didn't want to wait, so I asked to be seated inside. I was. After the waiter took our orders, we hardly ever saw him. I had to go looking for him whenever we needed something, and I had to ask someone else to bring the check over. The food was very good, but I believe that if your service remains this bad, you will lose customers. I will give the restaurant one more chance, but if I encounter this kind of service again, I will not be back.
This is a great neighborhood French restaurant that gets it right. I had the hanger steak this most recent visit, and it was outstanding, but I've had most of the classics on the menu, and they are all very good. This is a great place to go when you want to have a conversation.
This was our first time at Le Monde. We live in the area and decided to give it a try. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant (we sat outside, but the interior is nice, also). Service was very good until the server got busier. We had to refill our wine glasses ourselves because he didn’t come back. No big deal, but I do think he had more tables than one person can handle. Prices are a bit high, but the quality is good, so that’s ok. Overall, it was a great dinner and we will be back.
The servers were pleasant and attentive. The food was tasty.
Great neighborhood French restaurant; a little overpriced, but worth it for the location and the ambiance.
The overall experience at Le Monde was positive. The service is good, and everyone who works there is very nice. The ambiance is relaxing. The lighting became very dark so everyone was using their cell phone flashlights to see the menu. The food was average. Portions are generous. The dishes were pricey, but that’s normal for NYC. The average entree is $25 to $30, although there are some selections less than $20. The menu is varied. I would recommend Le Monde.
Been here many times, food is always delicious and reliable. I love the vibe here, and staff is super friendly, and most of all incredibly welcome to toddlers :)
Le Monde was a great choice for us. We were coming down from Northern Westchester and our friends were staying in Midtown. Really good French cuisine, not fussy, great service, lovely ambience. We were seated outside and when it started raining our waiter quickly got us inside and seated at the perfect table. We didn’t feel rushed and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
It was a mild evening so we had a very nice meal at the sidewalk tables. Food was well prepared and came with a good cadence. I was disappointed that our first choice for wine was not available but the 2016 Morgon was excellent and I was very happy with that. Overall, Le Monde offers a nice bistro atmosphere and menu and I would be happy to go there again.
The food is good but mediocre and the drinks are below average. The prices are WAAYYY to expensive for how mediocre it is. The atmosphere was the best part, it was perfect. The service was bad, the server was very nice but he forgot to bring some of our order and didn’t bring out a drink until after our plates were already taken away. He gave us our check and we immediately had everything ready but we watched as he walked away and stood in a corner staring out at the tables doing nothing for a solid 5 minutes before returning.
Very tasty brunch. Delicious eggs Benedict. Attentive and pleasant service. Noise level high because of too many small children. A bit crowded with the strollers, maybe these could be put to the side. Like the decor, reminds me of a Paris bistro.
