I was in town traveling from Wisconsin and I was recommended to check this place out by a man I met who knows the chef. We were celebrating several birthdays and family unity and this restaurant supplied the perfect atmosphere and experience. Wonderful food shared by all of us in a many-course plan that our amazing server Rejeana helped make an occasion to remember. She was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive and an overall joy to have around. I will certainly recommend this restaurant to others and I wish you all the best of luck in your future as a restaurant and team. Cheers!
A totally underrated place. The food was great, service was exceptionally great and the location is perfect. I was shocked by the value and can’t wait to go back.
The staff was fine. They were knowledgeable about wine selections and other menu items. I had the French onion soup. The cheese and crouton were wrong. The broth was bland and lacked complexity. I almost always finish onion soup but I didn't this. Pork tenderloins were tender but, I feel, a bit undercooked. Covered in sauce, I didn't quite notice the problem until well into the meal. The room is cavernous and was empty on a Saturday night during pre-theatre, even with an opening night at the Benedum, and other houses open, too. Prices are moderate, befitting the middling experience.
Food was delicious and our waiter was patient and attentive. Great date night.
There were 4 people in our party, we all had different dishes and we each thought our dishes were perfect in taste and presentation. The atmosphere was perfect for talking with friends we hadn't seen in awhile, nice and quiet and pleasant seating. The wait staff gave excellent descriptions of the meals on the menu and offered some suggestions. Because we were there before 6pm one of us tried the three course pre fixe dinner which was delightful. All of the dishes were reasonably priced and the servings were quite satisfying. We all said we would return and would gladly recommend it to others.
The host stand is hidden if you're entering through hotel. Atmosphere was good, host was pleasant, our server knew the menu.
The menu was a little misleading, however we enjoyed our second entree of Ratatouille after sending the first entree of pasta and seafood with a heavy tomato soup-like sauce back. The cheese plate was over-valued and extremely close to its expiration date (especially the blue cheese, which we hid under bread as to not complain). We found a lighter under the drivers seat, which meant the valet driver smoked at some point, which explained the smell when we got into the vehicle. Overall... We'd go back but will find parking elsewhere.
The food was good and we enjoyed our wine. However, the service and the pacing of the meal were problematic. The server recited and described in detail her "favorite" dishes on the menu, which amounted to telling us largely what we could read for ourselves. The main dishes came 40 minutes after we finished the appetizer, and two out of three were heated unevenly. After 30 minutes of waiting for the main course, we asked the server about the delay; she didn't seem to know what happened, and said she'd tell the kitchen to "fire" it (!). When the manager came by and inquired about our meal so far, we told her what was happening. She responded that sometimes orders get lost in the kitchen, and then followed up with "everything's okay, though, you're not late for your show, are you?"
We loved this place. Our waiter, Evan, was phenomenal. He was incredibly knowledgeable and his wine selections throughout the night were fantastic and within budget. The beef bourguignon was divine. The perfect start to our weekend trip. Will definitely come back next time we visit Pittsburgh!
great food the cheese plate was wonderful and a lot to choose from. The soup was to die for and amazing beef.
The food was excellent, but heavy. portions were large and delicious. three of us ordered off the three course set menu for Pre-show events. and barely made it to the show.. They have a lovely cheese cart that is amazing but it seems very time consuming for our server who never made it back to our table to see if our food was delivered correctly. I would have liked a glass of wine with my dinner but never saw our server to order one. We rushed thru dessert and threw our credit cards at the bill so we could make the show. Overall a little stressful when it shouldn't have been
The happy hour appetizers were a great sampling of the dinner menu. We loved the cheese plate and the veal/pork meatballs were fantastic. Service was exceptional!
It was pretty good overall. Shrimp appetizer was outstanding. Duck cassoulet entree alright not inspired. Meyer Lemon Tart dessert was tasty. Lyonnaise Kir was too sweet and flat. After we went to a play we came back for after dinner drinks at the bar. Wonderful drinks and excellent bartender. Will come back but will stick to small plates and wine, not cocktail list.
At First there was hardly anybody there however within the hour pretty much every table was field food was excellent
The service is always excellent. The menu is creative, and it changes often enough to make me want to come again and again.
It’s was very good. As a chef I don’t really understand the meatballs arrabiatta. There was an issue in the kitchen because a few tables were visibly upset. Our experience was good and I would come back. But there are many other restaurants to try so with the absence of ceviche. I will try many more before I return. Good experience though.
Decor desperately needs to be updated. Pate special was excellent, but everything else was bland.
Amazing food. Meat is so tender it melts in your mouth. My favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh.
We ate there on a Monday night and the place was empty. The food and service were good. We asked about the happy hour prices and were told that we would have to sit at the bar. Maybe they would get more customers if they weren't so anal. My wife's white wine was served in a huge glass meant for red wine and it was about 10% full - about 1 ounce of wine!
Our server was amazing, definitely knows his wine pairings!! The staff was friendly and attentive, I will definitely go back
Dinners a bit pricey--but quality of food is excellent. Not sure why the Valet Parking was added to the bill--that was a little confusing. Good quality/value wine sold by the 12 oz carafe.
Aaron was a delight. He was a pleasure to talk with and knew when to engage and when not to.
The pumpkin spice old fashioned mocktail the bartender made was delicious. I didn’t hear his his name. And we enjoyed a superb meal but for the escargots. They started nicely but ended really flatly. Some garlic would have been helpful.
Other than that we totally enjoyed the steak tartare, salmon and crab tartine, beet salad, parm/truffle fries and salmon with sage spatzle.
And the desserts were divine: vanilla bean creme brûlée and lemon tart.
Thanks again Aaron for the great service.
The staff was overwhelmed and the service was awful.
Second time there and both times was terrific! We went for Valentine's Day and really enjoyed the food, service and ambiance.
Wonderful addition to Pittsburgh cuisine.
Appetizers so good they could be entrees. The Quellnelle lovster suace is outstanding.
We picked this venue to try it out since it reopened and because we thought it would work before our 8:00 show.
I enjoyed my chx dinner and had great service! She even offered to keep my leftovers for me to pick up after the show. The hostess gave me her card, so we could call before arriving so it would be ready for us!
We went before a show the other night and the food and cocktails were great. This is a huge upgrade over Sonoma!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed dining here. Came early before a show, leaving us ample time to relax, enjoy a terrific cocktail and many appetizers ( we were full!) before heading out. For those complaining about taking forever to get your food, just come early and relax! This is not McDonalds, it’s not going to be done fast!
We enjoyed every bite, and the service was terrific. The happy hour specials in the lounge are very satisfying and delicious. The only minor complaint was that the toasted bread served with the patè was a bit crispy, but a request for more of the fresh baked bread was honored, so all was good. We will return!
Wanted to live it but didn’t. Our server was MIA until the end of the meal when he finally chatted with us a bit. Food was ok but not great for the price. Got some bad mussels which were adequately apologized for but still left a bad taste for the whole experience
Food was OK, I get that it is billed as “French Comfort Food”. It wasn’t great. Service was pretty terrible, but other tables around us weren’t having as bad service, so that may have been a fluke. Overall, however, we won’t be back. There are better options around. It wasn’t cheap, and it wasn’t great.
Enjoyed our meal but was very disappointed that although we clearly identified I couldn't eat Gluten the GF meal I ordered came with the Gluten topping. Seems small to some but to send the dish back and have a new dish cooked and make my husband wait and let his meal get cold or to have to wait for me to finish is not really top notch of a top notch restaurant.
The food is excellent! But disappointed that the wait staff was not attentive.
Repeat customer. Came early to sit at bar. Bartenders are super friendly and knowledgeable, shrimp and meatball apps were amazing. Great wine selections. Dinner was great; beef cheeks were superb; salmon done perfectly; seafood fettuccini was excellent. Attentive server. Will return. Highly recommend.
Was not very impressed. It wasn’t bad but the food and service wasn’t amazing. The ambiance was not very romantic either. The decor could’ve been Denny’s. The escargot was blah...it was however a lot cheaper than expected.
Absolutely delicious food & very friendly service. A huge upgrade from Sonoma Grille. We will be back!
We went on a Friday night. Evidently people were there pre-show and in fact there was a pre-show menu. Many of the customers were yelling at the waiters that they had a show to catch and didn't have their food yet. We ordered drinks and appetizers of snails and quenelles. These arrived relatively quickly and were fair at best but in the middle of eating them a waiter arrived with dessert that we did not order. Our entrees arrived before our plates from our appetizers were removed. I had the cassoulet which was acceptable but not good and my son had steak frittes. The frittes were soggy and horrible, certainly not twice fried. The steak was somewhat overdone. We then ordered dessert and waited over 45 minutes. I drank a cup of coffee but was never offered a refill and never saw our waiter to ask for a refill. The dessert arrived after 45 minutes, an apple tart that was inedible. The pastry was soggy probably from sitting out so long and the whole concoction was way too sweet. While I did not expect the quality of food I found in Lyon, FR, this was horrible as was the service. There is no excuse for this and would recommend you cross this place off your list. Many other people in the restaurant were clearly upset by the service and food. The restaurant removed the charged for the dessert due to the 45 minute wait but the wait was a small issue compared to the overall poor food quality and poor service. Zero Stars!
A busy Friday night, we were a little rushed to get our meal in before the show. Lisa worked very hard and the food was really great. Maybe a little high-priced, but we'll certainly return!
Service was VERY slow resulting in not being able to enjoy the meal. I had told them we had an 8pm show. Reservation was at 6. Food did not arrive until 7:30. Very disappointing.
This was a wonderful pre-theater experience. The Roasted butternut quash soup was served hot and had a great balance of spices...The Beef Cheek was way over the top awesome!!!!
Lovely evening during Pittsburgh's Restaurant Week. We opted for a cheese course pre-dinner, which came with sugared walnuts, cranberries and/or cherry jam with baguette. The house red in a carafe was satisfactory, probably their bottles are preferable to wine connossieurs. The salmon course was superb, as was my husband's beef cheek. Also, the crème brulee was excellent. Great place for a quiet dinner.
We wanted to try somewhere we haven’t been to for NYE and we were not disappointed. Many options on the menu. Appetizers and salads big enough to share. The lamb and beef dishes were both delicious. Specially cocktails were fun. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. We will definitely be back.
Delicious entrees, generous portions, and quality service. Especially enjoyed the wRm reception.
