Le Grenier Ratings and Reviews
This was my second time going to Le Grenier. The first visit was phenomenal! This second time however was less than stellar, and had i not had such a great experience the first time I probably would not go back. The service was terribly slow, I had to wait to get seated even though I had a reservation, which was fine they were just waiting for the prior couple to get up. But once I sat no one came over to us for at least 20 minutes. I ordered a coffee from a buser but it never came. Once we finally ordered, all three courses took forever to get to us, and were cold, which was disappointing because the food is delicious otherwise. They did seem very busy, all the waitstaff running around, so it's not like they were just sitting there ignoring us. But if you go make sure you aren't in a hurry and have some patience. Hopefully next time it gets better.
The Brunch was the best I've ever had. Between how beautiful it looked and how incredible it tasted, I was in my happy place. Really good deal too! $20 gets you either an appetizer, main, and mimosa or a main and dessert. Good if you're splitting w someone so you can try it all.
We went for brunch and ordered Lobster Bisque, cheesy and delicious!
I had smoked salmon eggs Benedict and my friend got roasted chicken breast with country mushrooms and potatoes. Both great choices. We also had mimosas and Nutella crepe for dessert. The music was upty funky french dance pop. Marie, the owner shared her playlist. It was a great experience all in all.
My husband found Le Grenier when looking for a restaurant for one evening and I thought the menu looked very interesting, so when he picked something else I decided to find a time when we could try Le Grenier. It seemed appropriate after going to see Renoir paintings at the Phillips. Our service was impeccable and we both enjoyed our meals very much. My main dish was a bit bland, but I saw many other things I'd like to try, so we've flagged Le Grenier as a restaurant we will visit again. I really liked the interior - very quirky, but lovely. I found myself following the drape in the window up and up to find the rafters of the roof exposed and lit. Glad to see another older building given new life.
We went here for date night when visiting the area. It is a very small restaurant, but there are 2 levels. Definitely set up a reservation to avoid a long wait for dinner.
We sat at a small table at upstairs. They have a wide selection of wines, however, only about 5 white and 5 reds that can be purchased by the glass.
We ate a 3 cheese plate, seafood chowder, mushroom filled puffy pastry appetizer, and salmon. They will come around and share fresh baked bread, which I dipped in the delicious soup. The salmon was beautifully plated with bright colors from the butternut squash and beet sauce. The owner did seem to make his way around to all the tables to say hello, which was a courteous gesture.
The food at Le Grenier is always top notch. This last time, for the Beaujolais Nouveau dinner, it was superb. The management and wait staff are ALWAYS wonderful to customers. And the ambiance is so relaxing, so comfortable. The monthly wine tastings are also great, both the wine and the learnings, along with the free hors d'oeuvres. It's my family's favorite place on Capitol Hill.
Had dinner here with my 12-year-old daughter and her BFF while in town for the weekend. Server incorrectly wrote down or entered our order, so my beet napoleon never came. The girls enjoyed the escargot but I’ve had better; their steak frites was good, and the roasted cauliflower salad was exceptional.
Last minute find when train delays threatened to spoil an evening. Looking for something near Union Station and this lovely spot popped up. Authentic French Bistro cooking in a lovely setting of rustic wood, hanging birdcage lamps and exposed brick. The server/manager was delightful, and had knowledgeable food and wine recommendations. Whether it was an understaffed night or what, we couldn't tell, but there was just no way to describe the service. Different servers, no communication with each other, entrees waiting over 30 minutes, something just fell apart. As this was such a find, and only the first time here, I'm assuming this was a one-off and wouldn't hold it against Le Grenier and intend to recommend and visit again.
We were celebrating my daughter’s birthday. I had purchased a “deal” on Travelzoo that was a scam. The cost for that same deal in the Restaurant was cheaper. On top of that the server was confused and caused a great deal of drama around the deal I had purchased. It was embarrassing for us and ruined the special occasion we were celebrating. I finally gave up and told the server to charge us whatever she wanted so I ended up paying $60 more on top of what I had already paid for the deal. Over Over, the Restaurant was very run down, with average food and below average service. I would not recommend this to anyone.
Went to the restaurant after purchasing a travelzoo brunch package. The food was fine, nothing spectacular, but the service was poor. We weren't even acknowledged for the first 10 minutes of us being seated. It wasn't until after I asked who the waiter was that a guy that passed by our table several times was pointed out as the waiter. His attentiveness was poor and his lack of interest in hospitality made the experience subpar. Overall, the food wasn't good enough that I would go back in spite of the service.
