The bouillabaisse and the bread were especially delicious but we loved everything we had.

It wasn't good tonight. The lamb chops tasted like liver and the duck leg didn't appear fresh. The escargot was ok but this place was excellent. I'm really sad to see it go down like this.

Really comfortable, relaxed French dining, in addition to the fact that the food is wonderful and not too expensive. Very spacious and well-ventilated but never cold. Exposed brick with no feeling of being in a foundry. Staff is very warm. Great of them to participate in Dining Out for Life.

Very nice quaint French restaurant on H Street in the District. They treated us to a little champagne to celebrate our anniversary! Friendly staff!

Le Grenier prepared a salmon dish that was so inventive I pretty much didn't even recognize the ingredients, but everything was delicious. I was intrigued by the wine tasting at the bar -- I'd like to try that next time! Service was a little slow, which was my experience last time I was there as well.

Beautifully rehabbed townhouse with affordable, authentic French fare in NE. In a word, go. And don't miss the lavender icecream for dessert.

After a hiatus of several years we decided to try Le Grenier again, this time for brunch.
The service has improved and the ambiance of the place remains attractive. We had the Croque Monsieur which was tasteless, and the Galette which was barely warm when served. The Eggs Benedict at the next table looked attractive but with so many other brunch options on H Street I think we will not try again.

Very authentic French cuisine. The rack of lamb was incredible as well as the Onion Soup. Would highly recommend for any occasion.

Let me start by saying I'm a big "foodie" and eat out a lot. I always do some "research" in advance so was excited about trying "Le Grenier." The few things I can recommend are some of the appetizers. The Onion Soup, Escargot de Bourgogne, and Val-au-vent (sweetbreads in a puff pastry) were very good. After these tasty appetizers and a good baguette I had high hopes that all the main dishes ordered would be comparable. Sadly this was not the case. The Paupiette de veau and Terre & mer (shrimp and chorizo) were good but the Bavette à l'échalote and La Poupoule were not. The bavette was ordered medium-rare but came rare (probably in hopes of having it be a bit more edible). It's an inexpensive piece of meat found on almost every French menu but most of the time it is better quality and not so excessively chewy. The Poupoule is a dry chicken breast with very little sauce to help it out and side potatoes with little taste. This restaurant is in an expensive area so maybe they're trying to cut corners. The service wasn't bad, but enough of the food was, so I would recommend paying a little more for a better meal elsewhere.

Had the pleasure to recently have a meal at Le Grenier. I had been looking for interesting, new options on H Street and came across the restaurant on Yelp. We had no problems with confirming our reservation and getting seats. Though my dining companion had a little trouble reading the menu font, the waiters were very helpful in finding a seafood option, since they didn't eat meat. I had the chicken breast with mushrooms and potatoes. It was really good. This was my first French food experience (french fries don't count, right?) and I liked it. What little I know about French food is its reputation for having great sauces. This did not disappoint.

Very delicious food. Had to send back lamb to be medium rare when it arrived well done. Waiters a bit crazed (forgot to bring bread etc.) but the place is really friendly and easy to hang out. Food was delicious! Non-pretentious, good French fare.

I went to Sunday brunch with my daughter who recently moved near Le Grenier, relatively late (1:45). It was pretty crowded when we arrived but thinned out while we were there. There were very few servers for the crowd that was there and it took a while to place our order and get our food. We were there over an hour and a half for brunch...The food--vegetable soup of the day (spicy and full of beans) for me and salad for my daughter, omelet and galette for main courses and crepes for dessert, were fine but not great. My omelet was supposed to have herbs along with the ham and cheese and we couldn't find a single herb...I would say that given the options in the neighborhood she might go again, but service is slow and food just ok so in another neighborhood maybe not.

With authentic French dishes as well as Breton galettes and crepes, attentive service, this is a wonderful choice for those who love French food. Came with my parents and daughter and we all really enjoyed our dishes. Made me want to visit France again.

We almost – almost – had a very good experience. The maitre d’hôtel who greeted us and showed us our table acted as though he were doing us a favor. The lady who brought our menus was very nice and welcoming. Our server was also very pleasant, but appeared overworked the entire time. We frequently had to ask twice for things.

The food was delicious, and the ambiance was lovely.

We’ve been looking for a new Sunday brunch stalwart since the closure of Bistro Francais in Georgetown. Perhaps we’ll keep looking.

Finally! a French restaurant that does not sweat pompous snobs... (and that's coming from a french guy). The food is great (a couple of dishes reminded me of home), the atmosphere is elegant and trendy without the usual upscale stiffness of other french places. The staff is really nice. My only feedback is around the service management: sometimes there is only one server supported by a couple of bussers. Service can be a bit slow because of that. But since this is a place where you want to enjoy and take your time, this is not a deterrent.
+ : great food, good value, atmosphere for a date or with a small group of friends
- : sometimes service can be slow

The food was creative and tasty, and we liked our second floor table on a balcony overlooking the street and diners below, but we had two complaints. The service was very slow, with inordinate waits between courses. Also, not long after we arrived the volume of the background music went way up to an annoying level that impeded conversation. We complained and the volume was turned down to a more reasonable level, but this should never have happened. We might return sometime, but we won't rush.

Dinner at Le Grenier was an absolute delight - while we wished there was a larger selection of wines by the glass to chose from, of the options available we were not disappointed. The entrees have a unique spin and a beautiful presentation, and for a less expensive or lighter fare the galettes (savory crepes) were wonderfully delicious.

Beyond the food, the decor of the restaurant is both intriguing and cozy - we definitely spent about 15 minutes into our first time here just pointing out all the different design choices we loved. The ambience and French jazz music adds to the entire experience, and decidedly makes Le Grenier a spot to which am looking forward to returning.

I enjoyed a lovely Sunday brunch with one of my sisterfriends. She had a beautiful and tasty omelet, while I had the eggs benedict with smoked salmon. We both had the cream of carrot soup as a starter. Delicious. We split a bottle of sparkling wine. We didn't think we could finish the bottle but the ambiance was so pleasant, we stayed and chatted for nearly 3 hours. No one rushed us out.

Food, service, ambiance.... all top notch!
Will definitely return.

We ate here at brunch a while ago and we enjoyed it so we decided come for dinner. What a monumental disappointment. First, we had to wait for a table but we had a 7:30pm reservation. We arrived at 7:29pm and had to wait 20 mins by the crowded bar - no one paid any attention to us. Finally after sitting down we promptly ordered our drinks and dinner as we were now already 30 minutes behind our reservation and we had plans after dinner. We ordered wine by the glass and the glass they serve it in is an affront to wine. It is way a tiny chunky glass and they fill it to the top so it is impossible to get a true taste of the wine as it can’t open up - they couldn’t serve it in a real wine glass? Ok fine. Whatever. Now dinner: It was restaurant week so we had to choose an appetizer, main and dessert. Our appetizer came after a few minutes only for it o be yanked away because it belonged to another table. This led to us having to wait ONE HOUR for our appetizer. Other tables arrived and left while we hadn’t even eaten yet. I complained about this and instead of being apologetic and offering us a wine on them or something to make up for the fact we had to wait for our reservation and after over an hour of being there we still hadn’t had our appetizer? Finally after the second time I complained, the appetizer showed up. The crab crepe was so-so - cold and the crepe wasn’t a good match for he crab. I had the cheese filled-mushroom - it was dry and the Roquefort cheese didn’t whet my appetite. Finally, our main. My husband had the lamb and he loves to eat lamb, I had the coq au vin. The lamb was so tough & flavorless he said. My dish drowned in sauce & the bacon flavor was over powering. I left most of it. The best part of my meal were the 2 tiny pieces of cheese I had for dessert. My husband’s mouse was mediocre. Overall a HUGE bust. On top of it all, they slow service made us have to cancel our after dinner plans. They did nothing to compensate. Over priced, not worth it.
