Wonderful find! Went for Valentine's Day dinner. They had a dinner for two special that was amazing. Excellent atmosphere, dressy-casual. Great French food; classy without being pretentious. Will definitely be returning.

We made a last minute reservation when we were running late from a talk. We were accommodated and treated well. The food was delicious and we left satisfied.

Finally! a French restaurant that does not sweat pompous snobs... (and that's coming from a french guy). The food is great (a couple of dishes reminded me of home), the atmosphere is elegant and trendy without the usual upscale stiffness of other french places. The staff is really nice. My only feedback is around the service management: sometimes there is only one server supported by a couple of bussers. Service can be a bit slow because of that. But since this is a place where you want to enjoy and take your time, this is not a deterrent.
+ : great food, good value, atmosphere for a date or with a small group of friends
- : sometimes service can be slow

The food was creative and tasty, and we liked our second floor table on a balcony overlooking the street and diners below, but we had two complaints. The service was very slow, with inordinate waits between courses. Also, not long after we arrived the volume of the background music went way up to an annoying level that impeded conversation. We complained and the volume was turned down to a more reasonable level, but this should never have happened. We might return sometime, but we won't rush.

Dinner at Le Grenier was an absolute delight - while we wished there was a larger selection of wines by the glass to chose from, of the options available we were not disappointed. The entrees have a unique spin and a beautiful presentation, and for a less expensive or lighter fare the galettes (savory crepes) were wonderfully delicious.

Beyond the food, the decor of the restaurant is both intriguing and cozy - we definitely spent about 15 minutes into our first time here just pointing out all the different design choices we loved. The ambience and French jazz music adds to the entire experience, and decidedly makes Le Grenier a spot to which am looking forward to returning.

I enjoyed a lovely Sunday brunch with one of my sisterfriends. She had a beautiful and tasty omelet, while I had the eggs benedict with smoked salmon. We both had the cream of carrot soup as a starter. Delicious. We split a bottle of sparkling wine. We didn't think we could finish the bottle but the ambiance was so pleasant, we stayed and chatted for nearly 3 hours. No one rushed us out.

Food, service, ambiance.... all top notch!
Will definitely return.

I went there during restaurant week, and the food was outstanding. I love the ambiance of the restaurant. We had several waiters helping us during dinner, but they didn't miss a beat. Very enjoyable experience.

We ate here at brunch a while ago and we enjoyed it so we decided come for dinner. What a monumental disappointment. First, we had to wait for a table but we had a 7:30pm reservation. We arrived at 7:29pm and had to wait 20 mins by the crowded bar - no one paid any attention to us. Finally after sitting down we promptly ordered our drinks and dinner as we were now already 30 minutes behind our reservation and we had plans after dinner. We ordered wine by the glass and the glass they serve it in is an affront to wine. It is way a tiny chunky glass and they fill it to the top so it is impossible to get a true taste of the wine as it can’t open up - they couldn’t serve it in a real wine glass? Ok fine. Whatever. Now dinner: It was restaurant week so we had to choose an appetizer, main and dessert. Our appetizer came after a few minutes only for it o be yanked away because it belonged to another table. This led to us having to wait ONE HOUR for our appetizer. Other tables arrived and left while we hadn’t even eaten yet. I complained about this and instead of being apologetic and offering us a wine on them or something to make up for the fact we had to wait for our reservation and after over an hour of being there we still hadn’t had our appetizer? Finally after the second time I complained, the appetizer showed up. The crab crepe was so-so - cold and the crepe wasn’t a good match for he crab. I had the cheese filled-mushroom - it was dry and the Roquefort cheese didn’t whet my appetite. Finally, our main. My husband had the lamb and he loves to eat lamb, I had the coq au vin. The lamb was so tough & flavorless he said. My dish drowned in sauce & the bacon flavor was over powering. I left most of it. The best part of my meal were the 2 tiny pieces of cheese I had for dessert. My husband’s mouse was mediocre. Overall a HUGE bust. On top of it all, they slow service made us have to cancel our after dinner plans. They did nothing to compensate. Over priced, not worth it.

I have been dining at Le Grenier for a few years now and it never disappoints. It's a neighborhood gem located on ever changing H St. I typically dine for brunch and always leave satisfied. It's authentic French and a must try if you are a foodie.

We went here because of a Capital Deal voucher & the current rating on Yelp (4 stars). It was an anniversary brunch, and I was quite delighted overall. We got there about 10 minutes early for our reservation; they sat us immediately. It's a small place, one of those narrow restaurants in an old rowhouse on H Street. There are only a few tables downstairs, but there's also and upstairs dining room. It was nicely decorated in a "kitch" sort of way, not coming across as pretentious at all. We were lucky enough to be sat at a window table, so could people watch outside as well as inside.

The deal we had was appetizer, entree & dessert. I had the mushroom soup while my wife had the pate; both were very good (we ended up swapping, as we decided we liked the others' choice better. :-) ). For entrees, I had the 'Steak du Chef' ((brown) shallot sauce, mustard drizzle) & my wife had the Eggs Benedict a la Florentine. Both were very good, and my steak was tender and cooked correctly. For dessert we had crepes; mine was lemon, my wife's was Nutella. Both were nice & light.

As it was our anniversary, the house was nice enough to comp us each a glass of sweet port after dessert! I'm not normally a port drinker, but this was a nice touch on which to finish.

All in all, it was a nice experience. The waiter was low-key without seeming inattentive. The service wasn't speedy, but then again, it's a French restaurant, so go with the flow. We spent 2 hours dining, and everything was nicely done. I'll have to make a point to come back!

As a plus, it's walking distance from both Union Station (about 7 blocks) and NOMA/Gallaudet University (about 6 blocks); both nice walks if the weather is decent. My only complaint is that I didn't see my favorite French dessert on the menu (chocolate souffle). I didn't ask, so maybe it's possible to get one? (I'll ask next time.) All in all, a nice little French restaurant on H Street; a great addition to the neighborhood.

Waited over 30 minutes to be seated after our reservation time. Service was slow and took over 40 minutes to get food once finally seated. One star for service 👎🏽

We went her for brunch in late January. We had a special coupon that made our meal especially valuable for the price we paid, but we had brunch here a few months earlier without the coupon and our experience was very similar.
The service was excellent as was the food.
The bread served before the meal was worth the calories, which is not often the case.
Between us we had the soup and pate appetizers and the steak and "Chef's choice" entrees. The "Chef's choice" was the weakest of the entrees (if we had a do-over we would have gone with the Eggs Benedict Norwegian which we had the first time), but it was fine and the other three portions were excellent.
The atmosphere was equally superb. While we were there all the other parties were engaged with each other, no one was on their cellphones, etc.
Most importantly, we never felt rushed. Even though all the other tables were filled at one point and a couple was waiting, we never felt any pressure not to linger -- such a rarity these days it seems that is so important to us.
Highly recommended.

I can’t understand why, if I leave my knife and fork on my plate after my first course, the restaurant won’t replace them with a clean set for my second. In a higher end restaurant this is bad form. Also, if your menu is going to be in French your servers should know some French. First and third courses were very good.

Food was just okay. Not especially “hot” in temperature. Scallops on the salty side and asparagus smothered i n a sauce. Service was pretty good; except had to request several times for additional glasses of wine.
