Le Garage Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful location. Beautiful view of the marina! Food was AMAZING! AMAZING! Ratatouille, squash blossoms, steak, brisket, beans, potatoes and mushrooms, wine... Service was excellent. Atmosphere was comfortable and modern-industrial style. A little pricey but worth it! Desserts, especially the chocolate cake and lemon custard were fabulous. Only complaint is bathrooms are located around the back of the building so you have to walk outside. It was raining and my mom had a walker so not very pleasant or convenient...
We went for my birthday. Highly recommend.
Le Garage never disappoints. The food is delicious. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and this is a great place to celebrate. Specials on champagne and frites and delectable and beautifully presented desserts. The signature mussels dish is fantastic. Other dishes we had, all enthusiastically reviewed: Croque Monsieur, Hamburger (served on brioche bun with carmelized onions, avocado, gruyere cheese, fresh butter lettuce), and ratatouille. Love the location, parking is easy. Great experience all around.
Lovely spot overlooking the water. Food was good, not great. Two of us ordered halibut but both were overcooked unfortunately. Server was very disappointing, not helpful with the menu at all and not attentive to our table. I was looking forward to trying Le Garage but I won't be back again for dinner. Maybe I'll try another time for lunch or just apps and drinks.
The food at Le Garage never disappoints, but on this visit, the service was extremely slow and frustrating. As someone with a dairy allergy, maybe going to a French restaurant isn't a good idea, but the chef is usually able to modify many of the dishes to eliminate butter, cheese, cream etc. On this occasion the server immediately said no, everything is made with butter -- I explained that we eat here regularly and would she please check with the kitchen. The result was a delicious meal for 3 of us with no dairy. It seemed that the restaurant was very understaffed for the full house on a Friday night.
So, this is our 3rd time at Le Garage, and being honest the 2nd visit almost turned us off, so this visit was make or break for us! Well, everything that went wrong the 2nd time went very right this time round. They have fixed the front of house which is now super friendly and efficient. The food was very much back to the standard of our 1st visit and service was 5⭐️. We are now confirmed Le Garage enthusiasts!!
We live about 75 miles from this restaurant but it is always on the lets stop list if we are on our way into San Francisco. Mussels are perfect, salad nicoise also, this is classic Belgian/French casual food, pleasantly served in a relaxed dock front location (that isn't easy to find). This visit the service was a little sketchy, came right at opening and staff didn't seem sorted out yet. One of two in our party ordered soup and an entree. The soup took a very long time to arrive and while delicious was enormous more than one would want along with an entree and was delivered along with the other persons main dish a warm sandwich (the fries for which were lukewarm and cold in moments). So one person was done before the other persons entree was delivered. None the less we would go back again. Food is always top notch, classic yet creative and the servers are all very pleasant (just a day that got off to an odd start).
We had family in from France and the reviews I read about Le Garage were very good! I was mainly looking for a restaurant near the water ... we found a gem and will look forward to going back! Our French family was very pleased with the food and wine selection too! We were also greeted with the full moon as we finished our meal! Staff was very pleasant too!
This was our second visit and it did not meet the standards of our first visit, which was exceptional. We were excited to return. But the food this time was only fair, across the board. We love the location and ambiance and appreciated the wait staff who were gracious and responsive. We were also disappointed that the only seafood on the menu was mussels, scallops & lobster ravioli--all shellfish. I would add that the duck confit was very unimpressive. We were not wow'ed by anything that we ordered--so different from our previous visit. Hopefully, it was just an off-night.
The service was exceptional. The cheese board and charcuterie were the best. The mussels were fantastic! the brisket was horrible. The steaks Brussels and fries were great! Paying the bill was a night mare. You have to stand In line at the front of the restaurant to check out on a cell phone with 4 square or something. Very unprofessional. And your choices for tip are preprogrammed into the check. Very unsettlingly.
Delicious everyday French classics with very attentive service. Homey relaxing ambiance that's perfect when the place is about half full. When in full swing with most tables seated, it is difficult to carry on a conversation. Worth a visit though off the beaten track and clearly popular for good reason.
Le Garage is my favorite place in Marin. I have never been to such a friendly well run establishment. The staff is excellent and the food is forever and every time Delightful! I frequent it often and always take my friends, Family and Clientele there. Enjoy!
We had a lovely late dinner at Le Garage. The service was impeccable and the food was fantastic. The waiter suggested a great french wine that managed to complement the [perfectly prepared] scallops I ordered as we all my dinner partner's goat-cheese-stuffed chicken. We will definitely be back in the future for another dinner or a weekend brunch! Truly one of the best places in Marin for a relaxed dinner.
In the past, loved everything -- food, service, ... This time, my choice went unfinished, one order incorrect, service spotty. Others liked their entrée choices, but experience was far from memorable this time round. Lack of signage is a big problem -- everyone arrived late.
Worth another try but if experience had only been the latest try, probably not.
We haven't been to Le Garage in several years, and we were a little disappointed. Food was not fabulous. Lobster bisque not particularly flavorful, and the portion was way too large. Mussels were delicious, but the portion is huge. Scallops were flavorful, but the portion was a bit skimpy--only four medium sized scallop with lots of other 'fussy stuff.' Chocolate dessert was awesome. Menu items reasonably priced, but the wine list is outrageous.
My husband and I enjoyed a delicious meal here for his birthday and would definitely go back! We have two small kids and don't do this nice of date night that often. Le Garage delivered a wonderful experience and incredible food from the charcuterie board and lobster bisque soup as apps to the scallop main for me and brisket for him. The staff was genuine and attentive and the ambience was lively but quaint. We decided we'd like to go back sometime with our girls and just get a glass of wine with the mussels and fries for a beachside treat and then play on the sand after. This place is a lovely little hidden gem!
This was very disappointing. Upon arrival the host said "your table is over there", and pointed. Other service was at best below average. Next we found the menu is not what they have online. It certainly is not french. (My pasta was a blob of not much taste.)
Overall a very disappointing experience.
I had the brisket, my wife and Mother in-Law the Steak Frites, Brother In-Law the Ravioli. Can't quite remember what my Father In-Law had.
I thought that the food was just OK. We had the Garbanzo bean fries and Crispy Pig Ears which were very good.
I thought that the food lacked a bit for the price. We have always enjoyed Le Garage but were not as usually impressed this time around.
