Le Filet Ratings and Reviews
Fabulous seafood in a great space. Oyster appetizer was a mix of 4 raw and 2 baked, all of which were very fresh. The baked oysters were very nicely prepared, with a light and flavourful topping. The hamachi tuna appetizer was exceptionally fresh with a tasty marinade, covered with a nest of finely shredded beet, cucumber and wonton skin. The two daily fish selections (sea bass and black cod) were both very fresh and flavourful, with a creative fusion of asian and european flavours. Unlike some of the more extravagant restaurants that spend so much time plating that the food arrives lukewarm, everything arrived on our table moments after it was cooked with the bass skin still hot and crispy. For food of this quality, the prices are very reasonable. Will definitely be back!
This restaurant will never fail to please and impress you, in both taste and aesthetics. Chef Yasu Okazaki understands the true meaning of curating an everlasting meal; orchestrating the delivery of 6 courses in perfect fashion and creating a unique, off-menu dessert for my girlfriend who had a gluten allergy. And his balance of flavors will rival the best dishes you’ve ever tasted.
I highly recommend dining at Le Filet, you will not leave disappointed.
I had dinner with friend in this restaurant on Sept 22. Food was good, but the young male waiter was not up to standard on such restaurant. He seems tired after waiting on a couple of table, ( only around 8pm) and we have to wave for his attention ( after waiting over 10 minutes) three times before he responded. He was rude in his manner also.
I think a waiter with his altitude sure with ruin all the good things about this restaurant.
The service was great and the host was able to arrange a seat for us on the patio (it was an unsually hot evening). The food was exquisite - good seafood is hard to find in Montreal and we are so happy to have found a reasonably priced seafood-oriented dining experience. The hamachi is a must-have.
First off, I must admit that this restaurant was not in my original three choices for a long weekend in Montreal. (Our first) wow, am I glad that our plans changed and we were able to enjoy this fabulous spot. Great ambience, fantastic service, and the menu options were so intriguing we had a very tough time deciding what to get. Our choices for appetizers and main courses were all great. Solid wine list as well. When we come back to Montreal, this will be our first choice.
Le Filet has been on our "must try" list for at least 2 years now - glad we finally had an 'excuse' to try it out during a visit with a friend . The menu has options for all tastes; dishes are creative in their preparation and presentation - a truly delightful dining experience. We tried the oysters, tuna tartare, octopus, the fish on the fly (which was Halibut during our visit ) and and amazing lobster gnocchi.
The food, service and atmosphere more than met our expectations . We will certainly not wait so long for a return visit!
Again, another overrated Montreal restaurant that serve food with nice name, nice decoration, and nice look, but with bad flavor, too salty and not worth the money spent.
The people are nice. The decor modern, but dark. A bit noisy since the ceiling is low.
But the food, under a fake set up, is very ordinary and pretend to be more classy than it taste.
Another place people like to pretend to go, but that the chef is cooking with a twist try to make the illusion it taste good, but it is not.
We had high hopes after we had amazing oysters with jalapeño, maple and miso. The service was fantastic. Our second course - scallop cerviche was beautiful but bland. The colors were gorgeous but ultimately the flavor was lacking. Our main courses - steak for my husband and lobster gnocchi for me - were fine but nothing exceptional. The lobster was slightly fishy. Overall, we expected more based on previous reviews and the prices. The restaurant itself was cute - looked sort of like any sushi restaurant in any city - dark colors, sleek, with tones of underwater. Based on the oysters and service, we might go back to try again and hope for better luck.
Le Filet's reputation among foodies is well deserved. Excellent food, well presented by an attentive staff. One of the wines by the glass is an interesting and very nice Sancerre -- more minerally than the norm. Our only complaint is that the restaurant is all hard surfaces, and therefore at the noisy end of "moderately" noisy.
This was our second time at Le Filet. In both cases, we really enjoyed the experience. The food is very good and creative. It is a mix of French and Asian cuisine and uses a lot of local ingredients. While the menu is set for 3 courses plus desert, we found that ordering just one hors d'oeuvre for two was sufficient. We each had our own appetizer, main course and desert and were full by the end of the meal. The service was very good. As one of the walls is made of sheets of steel, the noise level is on the high side.
