Quenelle de brochet sauce américaine
pike quenelle, lobster sauce
Halibut beurre blanc
daikon prepared as choucroute
Terrine de veau
veal terrine, pickled girolles
On a scale of 1 to 5, the food is really an 8. Excellent.
The wine list is excellent, but the pricing is, to put it mildly, aggressive.
The service seemed a bit rushed....two times we had not finished and the waitstaff was hovering ready to collect the plates and silverware. Plates were delivered in a haphazard fashion....the quality of the food deserves more attention.
Covid wise (on a scale of 1 to 5, a 1 (i.e. not a particularly safe environment). Most staff, especially in the kitchen and most of the waitstaff, not wearing masks...yes, they claim to be vaccinated, but there is no on-going testing in case of break-through cases or fake vaccination cards. Check of diner vaccination at the front door was spotty (at best). A group before us was only partially checked, we were not checked and the table next to us said they had not been checked. Few, if any, of the guests wore a mask coming into or out of the restaurant, or moving about the restaurant. While Covid remains a threat, I will not return or recommend the restaurant.
Wanted to start by saying we're not people who normally go for the typical fine dining/white tablecloth restaurant experiences... so if you resonate with that preference, know this place is an exception (!!!). Le Coucou is.... absolutely one of the best NYC dining experiences we've had in the decade we've lived here. Everything from the service to the food to the ambiance is beyond perfect. We ordered the leeks, the whole lobster, the filet basquaise, the dover sole, and the mille-feuille for dessert. That felt like the perfect order to us - we wouldn't have changed a thing, and we are relatively hard to please. In terms of cocktails, the Danse Macabre is one of the best I've had in my life. Thanks for everything, Le Coucou!
The food is more than five stars! Every dish was full of flavors and so balanced as well! The service was great and super friendly! Highly recommended!
Everything was perfect, the vibe, the food and the service !!!
Simply stunning. The menu, the service, the atmosphere. Le Coucou delivers many smiles.
What a fabulous restaurant! the food is fabulous and the service is at the highest possible level. everything is designed to make your night unique and very special.
A beautiful restaurant and wonderful experience all-around.
My wife and I dined here last night to celebrate our 19th anniversary. It was divine! Everything from the custom cocktails at the bar beforehand, to the four course meal, hit the mark perfectly. Warm, thoughtful service and distinctive ambiance surrounded us throughout the evening. Thank you — and kudos! We will surely be back.
Excellent service and meal every time we have been. They never disappoint. 5 stars!!
"One star" food in a beautiful setting with a wine list that is (no surprise) French centric. Many of the red Burgundies are too young, though that is common for restaurants these days. But if you want a hard-to-find bottle you are likely to see it here. Starter of leeks and hazelnuts was excellent, and the Navets en guise d’escargots deserves Special Mention. Duck for two was quite nice, as were the mushrooms though chanterelles were hard to find (perhaps they didn't get nice ones in that day).
It was a wonderful night. The staff were great, super professional, ande very nice.
The food was delicious.
Thank you so much for the experience.
The best meal I’ve had in a really long time. Lovely restaurant, amazing menu, lovely staff.
The service is poor and food quality is not worth the price
Food was excellent but the service was off last night.
Great evening. Highly recommended for an evening out.
Excited to be finally back! We had the “Very Coucou Dinner” and was pleased by the selection of dishes. Most dishes were actually dishes in their à la carte menu with some nice surprises. It was a good journey through different flavor and ingredients. The favorite dish of both of us was the bouillon that was served with the sea bass. My friend felt with such flavorful bouillon one could use a more boldly flavored fish than a safe choice like sea bass. We both really full in the end so we were happy to find that the desserts were very refreshing and well balanced.
We felt the half bottle champagne might be one or two years too old. The taste was a bit unstable and slightly funky. Also there was a small mistake on the bill, we got a Brut not a Rose but there’s only $5 difference so we didn’t bother to bring it up.
Excellent service, food and ambiance. Favorite restaurant we have been to in NYC and our server Ethan was fantastic.
Great to be back at Le Coucou! Amazing food, great accueil and service, a memorable pre-Thanksgiving dinner. We will be back very soon.
What an amazing experience. Even from the moment we got a confirmatory call just so lovely and welcoming. The minute you walk into the foyer the hosts are excellent.
We received a great table and, candlelit, our server was helpful, dignified, approachable.
We chose a la carte options and each item was so carefully balanced and composed, a beauty to enjoy with the eyes and with the palate.
The cuisine reminded us of the best dining we have experienced in Paris, but yet an American flair that showed class and the hint of whimsy.
Particularly of note for us were the seafood dishes but every course including the dessert was exquisite.
We will remember this evening for many years and look forward to visiting again soon.
Excited it’s back!
Overall, pretty close to pre pandemic. Drinks and wine hit the right spots.
From the nibbles, the grilled foie gras was a standout. The duck breast was scrumptious though the confit was too moist.
This was an absolutely outstanding incredibly delish resto experience. Flawless!
Everything was perfect! Food came out kinda slow but it did not matter at all. Whatever you order, it’s gonna be perfect. I spend quality time over here. Love it.
About last night....
Le Coucou is my undisputed favorite restaurant in NYC. Chef Rose and his team provided an unbelievable VIP experience last night for my wife and I. The food is modern take on French classics executed with precision. Our waiter, Richard, was on point. Sommelier Gabi, paired perfectly, service was impeccable by the entire staff.
Chef Rose remembered us from our visit to his restaurant in France a few years back and have been his #1 fans ever since.
VIP experience with a very special chefs table made possible by our host Casey. Hostess Linda made it happen and took care of all of the details to make this a night to remember.
Le Coucou is a beautiful space with excellent service and delicious food. Bien Fait!!!! Mmagnifique
Amazing Food by an Amazing Chef and staff! A beautiful dining room that is managed by the service staff to perfection. The food is creative but not intimidating. Well done by all.
Good place, great variety of wine. Pairing was not the best but food was excellent
took quite a while to get drinks, bread. service in general was quite good and professional especially given that they opened 11/7 and half the staff is new.
started with bigeye tuna a la Portuguese, quite good but the accoutrements masked the delicate flavor of the tuna. next was quenelles, a bit different from before, served in a lobster bisque which was a surprise but delicious. main course, sole, sort of almandine, with olives. different and also quite good. the above paired with a lovely Chassange Montrachet made for an evening where le Cou Cou re-earned its Michelin star after too long an absence.
for a date, celebration, business highly recommended
A dressed up place with with amazing service across the board that will help feel at ease and right at home. For those who know what they want and need and for those who need help navigating a “formal” setting, this place accommodates all. The sommelier pairings were excellent and food recommendations from the server to sommelier to the bussers were all on point as well. Everyone was kind and attentive. Never felt rushed and we even arrived 30 mins earlier and were still able to get seating. Highly recommended if you are in the area.
I did the classic tasting menu which gave me the chance to try their classic dishes. They didn't have a wine pairing, but Samantha created a perfect one for me. I would definitely ask to be served by Samantha again when I go back.
Increíble, aunque el precio algo elevado
We were initially sat at a table next the the wait-station, which was disruptive and then moved to a table next to the hostess desk, which was a little better, but not much. Neither tables should be where customers are sat who are paying $300+ for a meal.
The dinner was nothing i ever experienced but I loved it!!!
I’ve already been here twice, and every time it’s unforgettable!
In the post-pandemic pandemia period, menus have shortened, prices have increased, and service and cuisine have been spotty, most often citing lack of qualified personnel. Le Coucou shows that it is not necessarily true.
The service was attentive to small details (table cloth partially covered by a napkin because of a spill of a few drops of sauce) and the food was perfectly executed with generous portions and copper ware to keep it warm when necessary. Interesting choices in the menu and on a Sunday night, black sea bass and lobster sold out most probably because of a crowd larger than expected. Not too many choices of wines under 150 dollars, although the bottles are usually of properly aged wines.
Everything was perfect!
Beautiful space. Servers very friendly and competent. Service very slow. Our drinks didn’t arrive until 30 minutes after we ordered them. Our first app didn’t arrive until one hour fifteen minute since being seated. Our reservation was at 9:15. We left the restaurant at 11:45 pm. Service incredibly slow.
Amazing food, my fav in NYC!
It’s nice to be back this week at Le Coucou, which has been closed for a year and half due to the Covid pandemic.
The restaurant has been a favorite spot for me in the past for special occasions so when I heard about the opening, I made a late night reservation to go alone just to make sure things were as good as before.
I was not disappointed.
The beautiful dining room, created by Stephen Starr, was filled to capacity. I was given a “Chef’s table” directly in front of the open kitchen and was delighted to see Chef Daniel Rose at the prep table, just like the first time I was here several year as ago shortly after the restaurant opened. He was calmly directing his team and tasting the dishes.
The current a la carte menu has some of the dishes that I remembered from before like the Quenelle, the Ris de Veau, and the “Whole Rabbit” as well as some new dishes that are modern takes on some classics.
Le Coucou Restaurant Manager, Andrea Veraado, provided some personal attention which is what he is supposed to do. He is new to the restaurant since the pandemic and a native of from Genova, Italy which didn’t detract at all from his skill as Maestro di Casa of a French Restaurant.
I was in the mood for the sweetbreads but was intrigued by the “coucou” menu, a 4 course Prix Fixe tasting menu of surprises prepared by the chef. It was delicious and I won’t detail every dish since it presumably changes every night. The best course was the crispy monkfish with an heirloom tomato and citrus sauce.
New to Le Coucou is the handsome and young Mark Henning, formerly the pastry chef at Per Se, who served several tiny delicious sweet treats to cap the meal.
Overall, Le Coucou continues to be one of the finest restaurants in the city.
Le Coucou is rated 4.9 stars by 2973 OpenTable diners.
