This was our second time dining for lunch at Coucou. We loved our first experience and came back. The food and ambience are amazing. it is one of the most flavorful meals we have had in the city. Last year, when we asked for a vegeterian menu for one person, we were greeted with a smile and friendly yes, and brought some delicious vegeterian plates, including a salad and veggie plate. This year, for some reason, the waiter was somewhat rude, not sure he could accommodate us or not, although I had mentioned while confirming over the phone that one person is a vegeterian. It was a surprise. The vegggie plate came eventually, but disappointed in the attitude of the waiter who served us.

So bummed. Two plates with fancy ingredients and it just wasn’t great food. The eggs in red wine sauce were definitely sour just not sure they were delicious. Adding jamon Serrano does not save a dish. Buckwheat crepe was super chewy and flavorless. Again, adding lobster does not save a dish. Trying really hard to be distinct without making something that just tastes good. Wine list was outstanding, drinks were great. Just disappointed the food was not better.

What a find off canal! We had a relaxed luxury dining experience in an off the beaten path in lower Manhattan - well worth the trip!

Le Coucou lives up to the hype! The room is stunning with comfortable seating and reasonable noise levels. We were seated at a cozy banquette with a view of the room and the kitchen. Service was personable and attentive from the entire team. And the food was delicious! I started with the quenelles de brochet, which are truly ethereal, light and flavorful. My husband enjoyed a tasty crab dish. I followed with the rabbit prepared 3 ways that was without doubt the best rabbit I'd ever eaten, and my husband had the steak, which was tender and flavorful. We were really full when it came time for dessert, but we had to split the chocolate mousse, which was heavenly, with a good expresso to end the meal. I wish it were easier to get a reservation!

Le Coucou was good but did not “wow” us.
We were shocked that a French restaurant did not have Grand Marnier. We came from
Philly so maybe we are just spoiled by our own vibrant food scene at home. It was nice that the server covered my husband’s entree when he went out to “feed the parking meter”

My third dinner at Le Cou Cou. It’s still a glorious splurge. The pike quenelles and the duck and foie gras choucroute for two are not to be missed. Worth the trip for the Omelette Norvégienne, a Baked Alaska cousin, alone. Lovely service, great wine list and helpful sommelière.

I really believe that this restaurant provides the dining experience that many high end establishments should try to emulate
A comfortable but elegant atmosphere, a wait staff that you would like to hang with after hours, just the right size portions of expertly prepared innovative takes on classic French and what my wife called the best dessert she has ever eaten !! BTW it was the lemon crepe!
So if you are lucky enough to snag a reservation, enjoy

My business lunch at Le Coucou with someone I've known for ages was, possibly, one of the best meals I've been served in the city in a long time -- perfect skate, a buckwheat crepe with crab, monkfish in mussel broth and a crepinette that would make Julia child weep for joy. The tarte au citron was a lesson in how to make it. And, the food wasn't the only exquisite aspect of the lunch. Service was perfect and the restaurant itself is one of the prettiest to open in NYC in ages. A friend said she thinks it's like going to lunch in the French countryside without getting on a plane. I can't wait to go back...

The setting and interior of the restaurant is lovely and the sound quality was excellent. The place is large but not cavernous and despite the full crowd it was easy to talk. As for the food it was a bit underwhelming. Perhaps it was just because it was a Sunday lunch selection. I had the turbot with lobster sauce - which was fluffy and light but the sauce rather thin. The lobster piece included was very tasty. I may be comparing the dish to the French classic I used to have in Paris so this was not as good as I remembered the dish could be. My husband had the fried white fish which he said was okay but more like fish 'n chips with a little freeze on top. The appetizer was a slice of cold fluke (or other white fish which I can't recall). It had a nice light sauce. Neither dish blew us away and it's just a two course menu. I must have written in my reservation that it was our anniversary. Nothing special was done for us but the waitress wished us a Happy Anniversary when we paid the bill. All in it's a lovely place to go but not the culinary experience we had hoped for.

Le Coucou features excellent, classically inspired French food in a very elegant setting. It was very hard to get a reservation, but I'm glad we did. It's worth noting that we started dinner at 11 PM and the dining room was lively to the end.

Impeccable wait staff that exceeded expectations. We were seated near the kitchen and had a fabulous view of the chef and team plating dishes. Certainly on the more expensive side of NYC dining, but great for a special occasion.

Slow service. Great wine list but horrible wine glasses. Front of the house is inattentive and forgetful. You can spend $1800 for two as we did and be barely acknowledged. Great cocktails

We were celebrating my daughter's birthday. Everything about the restaurant exceeded our expectations. The food transported us back to Paris, the service was extraordinary without the stuffiness and the ambience was elegant. We had a table overlooking the kitchen which was an awesome bonus. It was a spectacular evening and we can't wait to go back.

After reading so many wonderful reviews of Le Coucou, the experience proved disappointing. Upon being seated, we waited 20 minutes to see a waiter (and then only after we had asked). It was explained that our waiter was "busy" elsewhere, but someone else took our order. The food itself was subpar. The tête de veau with the sauce ravigote was underwhelming in its richness. The crépinette de poulet et de foie gras lack acidity and was served with a medley of herbs in search of a meaning. What should it be? Dill, parsley or something else? Bizarre decision to muddle the flavor profile of a dish.
To be fair, the dessert (the chocolate tart) was excellent. But for the price point, Le Coucou is not the French restaurant I would recommend in NYC.
