After taking the Parisian dining scene by storm, acclaimed chef Daniel Rose brings home the James Beard "Best New Restaurant" award for his very first stateside restaurant. Located in SoHo, the space is a gracious modern nod to fine European gastronomy, with crisp linens, fliberking candles, and whitewashed brick. Updating classical French cuisine with charm and verve, Rose shrinks the intercontinental divide separating the City of Light and the Big Apple, proving that the true essence of fine French dining can thrive in any time zone.

Disappointed we were seated 20 minutes late. And so bummed they were sold out of the rabbit so early in the night. Thats are main reason we came to dine at le coucou so disappointed we didn’t have the option to order it

My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner. The location is between Chinatown and Little Italy, it’s alright. There is street parking around if you get there early. Restaurant itself is not large, kind of crowded inside and tables are very small. Decor is ok but nothing fancy. Food is the good part. We ordered two “appetizers” and two entries. All are about the same portion size and similar prices, from $38 to $78 per dish. Lobster, sweetbreads, sea bass and veal. All very tasty and well presented. The sauces were great and really elevated the food. Really enjoyable food, but, the portions were very small. Four dishes and over $250 in food and we were not full at the end. As for the service, it was excellent. Almost too good. Since the place is small and there were just too many servers standing around, it felt a bit crowded and someone is always standing near, or walking by, your table. Not the most relaxing dining experience. We had two cocktails and no wine. Over $300 for two people. Rather pricy. Wish there is more food on the plate.

We reserved a table for two for our anniversary. The decor and ambience is very peaceful and elegant. The service and attention to detail is outstanding. The taste of the food is exceptional however the portion size is minuscule. The size of the dumplings in my appetizer are about the size of a Us quarter coin and you have three to enjoy. The sea bass with exceptional and refined taste is half of the size of an I-phone with some endive leaves on the side. The desert were rich and tasty and appropriate in size. The coffee was initially lukewarm however immediately replaced with two steaming americanos. In summary, if you are a hard working New Yorker who enjoys good food and want to be satisfied, this may be not the place for you. If you are caloric sensitive and enjoy fine dining, this is your place.

As a couple who enjoy dining at the very best restaurants, we're really pleased that LE COUCOU is emerging as a serious presence in the NYC dining scene and perhaps even gaining a well-deserved international reputation. The cuisine is an unparalleled fusion of true French dishes (quenelles, grilled leek, etc) and innovative haute cuisine. The setting is magical - not overly formal while remaining far away from 'casual'. Last but not least, the service goes beyond exceptional. Each time we've eaten here has been a 'collaboration' with highly skilled servers and sommeliers who enjoy lingering to discuss and who take great pride in ensuring their guests have an amazing experience. Although we'd prefer this to remain an 'undiscovered gem' - the cat is rightly out of the bag and we're very happy to support this terrific establishment as it's success continues. Fondly - Anthony D. & Edward D.

The restaurant has some very nice tables, and some very mediocre ones. We got a mediocre one which degraded the experience. The sauces on the sweetbreads, lobster and souffle all seemed very similar and a bit monotonous. Exceptional service.

Le CouCou is our favorite restaurant in NYC. We are Stephen Starr fans and this one is top shelf. My wife and I shared the duck for our entree. Foie Gras terrine for the first course, and the mussels for my second course. All delicious!!!! No hesitation in recommending this restaurant to others, and we have!!!!!!

The appetizers were good and creative: leeks, faux escargot, and tuna with soy. But we were very disappointed of the main dish which was pan fried chicken thighs with a vinaigrette on mixed greens. The waiter did tell us that by choosing the "very le coucou lunch" the cooks would cook us whatever they wanted, but he didn't tell us they would give us the blandest, cheapest main dish to both of us. I've cooked this dish myself before because it's the easiest from the cookbook Bistronomy. We definitely felt our trust was betrayed. I was expecting more effort and generosity as i have experienced at other high-end restaurants, at least serve us each a different main dish so we could try something we don't find in any restaurant like pan fried chicken. It was my first Michelin starred restaurant and left very sad honestly.

Call in advance to confirm allergies can be taken care of. When we arrived the server was awkward and unsure if be able to have their starting menu. I had assumed they would just substitute some plates which is what they did, but at first she didn’t handle it very well. After that and she confirmed with chef that it could be taken care of service was tremendous.

First return to Le Coucou after pandemic. Still very good food (maybe slipped slightly from opening year). Ambience and service excellent as would be expected. Food prices high, but fair. Wine prices "out of sight" however. Of hundreds (?) of bottles on list, only a (small) handful under $100, and then just barely. Just guessing, but median price for a bottle was likely well north of $200. No one should expect Le Coucou to be inexpensive, but a few more "two-figure" bottles would have been appreciated. Wine price is only reason I wouldn't give Le Coucou 5 stars.

Very creative cooking. The French touch on certain dishes is perfect. The fish quenelle in a lobster sauce was devine. The tuna plate was just right & so flavorful. The lobster was perfectly cooked and its sauce was devine. The filet of beef with unstructured Foie gras was both creative and full of flavor and tenderness! And as always, the mini-Madelines at the end were delicious! It was a great return visit for my daughter's birthday!

We could not have had a better experience. Beginning with the hostess, who was charming, and our server Natalie who was really fabulous, the entire atmosphere was friendly and wonderful. The food is superb and among the best we have had in New York. We made a reservation to return and look forward to another great dinner in this very special restaurant. It could not be better. It is also very fun to see the kitchen staff at work and the chefs table our favorite. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the best of Paris and New York.

Very mediocre service. Was seated next to the waiter stand in the beginning just because we were an asian couple (frequent issue with high end places in NYC and this place did not disappoint). Waiter was arrogant and did not even speak French. Food was ok, I would say 25% over priced vs other offerings in the city. Would not return
