Le Colonial - Houston
A lavish downstairs dining room is adorned with period photography, overhead fans and leather banquettes, and flanked by a Parisian-Style sidewalk café. A dramatic staircase leads to a second level lounge, where a large bar, mahogany millwork and plush seating create the perfect atmosphere for cocktails and light fare. Custom louvered shutters surround the west veranda, while an additional terrace on the north side is fully enclosed and features additional dining tables. The Lotus Room, anchored by a mural created by Swedish muralist Jonas Wickman rendered in gentle tropical tones, seats up to 14 for private dinners and wine tastings.

Food was overpriced but good. I can cook comparable meals. Cocktails very good.
This is one of our favorite Resturants in Houston. We have met friends there and have had family special occasions there.
Superb food, wine, ambience and service.
We were given the suggestion of the dumpling to start. Absolutely nothing special. I ordered the BO XAO TIEU OT which was good. The dish was something I expected from a fine dinning restaurant. Excellent. My wife ordered MI XAO DO BIEN which was terrible. A side order of green beans is 9$! They were plain. Overall we were very disappointed in this place. Even the seating was uncomfortable. We sat at the booth chair with a small table. I had to rest my feet on the tables stand and the table was wobbly. It was annoying. Even at the time of our dinner we kept saying how we would never come back.
The host by the door was very rude.. i hop u change her so we can come again..
Excellent for night out or brunch. Great service and very fresh food and spicing.
Excellent in every way.
Excellent menu with well matched wines
I like this place, however, I do think it is overpriced for what you get. I will return for the happy/social hours but probably not for the $125 duck.
This was our second visit to Le Colonial, and like our first one, this was just as great. I love Vietnamese dining, and have a few other locations in town that I have visited for more than 25 years. However, after discovering Le Coloinial, that has changed- this place has now become my favorite and go to place! Service is warm and friendly. The food tastes so fresh and delicious. We will be coming back often.
Our reservation was not honored! Furthermore, we sat down at the bar for a drink to try to "wait it out", the bartender forgot to pour the martini into one person's glass and another drink was missing one of the ingredients. Never an apology. The manager told us he had a table for us (as we were leaving). We walked to the back of the restaurant with him to them be told, "there is no table"! Valet parking to retrieve our car was interminable...
For regular "local" customers, we felt like second class citizens! My suggestion to Le Colonial is: if you don't take care of your regulars, and the locals from the city, you will never make it!
Always quality service and fine plated food. I know this restaurant well from my San Francisco visits.
Celebrated my birthday with 8 of us and has a wonderful time. Service with Melissa was attentive and perfect. All of our dishes were fabulous as was the wine and cocktail service. We really enjoy having Le Colonial in the neighborhood !!
Very good experience. Waitstaff and support excellent.
Le Colonial never disappoints. The food, atmosphere and service are always great. I'm not a big fan of valet, and that is my only issue with eating here. I will go back and want to try the upstairs bar area as it looks super fun.
I have always loved le colonial but this experience was a
Easy to get to and leave from; good valet service. The main dining area is comfortable, well-decorated and attractive. Service is prompt, efficient, without being "in your face". The food is outstanding and the wine list, very good.
The upstairs bar is a different matter: it is extremely noisy, the service is inefficient and "distracted". With several empty tables, we were told they were reserved, even though we only wanted a glass of wine while our time for dining downstairs arrived. The same tables were still empty when we left. The first drink menu we got, had no wines by the glass and it took about 15 minutes to place our drink order. In the future, we will avoid the second floor.
Si good!! The food has good value and amazing flavor
Absolutely perfect as always.
Food and service was outstanding. Excellent.
Food was great as always. Service was a little on the fast side - we felt like we were rushed. But i always love this place.
The fine quality food and service is never disappointing at Le Colonial. I highly recommend it!
One of the best in town- wonderful food, attentive serivce and lovley setting!
Great service at Le Colonial. We enjoyed the egg rolls, the roasted salmon, fried rice, and vanilla custard. Wine selections are good.
Food was very good-would recommend to anyone!
Service was atrocious!!!
Ordered a bottle of wine - list said a 2012
The bottle that was brought was a 2006 and while being opened the cork crumbled to pieces. Rather than replace the bottle the waitress went in back a poured it into a decanter brought it to the table and poured a taste. Cork was floating in my glass. I asked that the wine be replaced but got push back - they said the would pour it through a strainer for me!!
I insisted on a new bottle which was reluctantly supplied after which we were ignored by our waitress and needed to interact with others in order to get the rest of our meal.
This kind of service is unacceptable and the restaurant needs to remember that there are endless dining options in Houston.
I guess I am a bit old fashioned, but slapping me with a non-negotiable $9.00 valet parking charge before I set foot in the restaurant did not set the right tone. However, the restaurant ambiance was great and despite the kitchen not having our first choices, we had an excellent meal.
I was excited to try this place as it had been recommended by several people. We ordered the ceviche for appetizer, and it was less than average, and the only thing we ate. For entrees I ordered the seared tuna, and my wife ordered the pepper steak. The food came out fairly quick, but it was not at all what we expected. The pepper steak was cold as if it was put on the plate directly from the fridge, my seared tuna must have been seared the day before and it was served cold!!! the food was served with steamed rice, which was also cold!!! I called the manager and asked him if any of the food we were served was supposed to cold, and he said no, that everything had just been prepared, which I highly doubt, but his attitude was condescending as if I would not the difference between something that was just prepared and something that was pulled out of a fridge and served. I asked for the check as the evening had been ruined, and to my surprise, I had to ask for the food to be removed from my check, which they did, but the correct thing to have done was comp the whole bill with out me having to ask.
Great restaurant and while it is expensive at least they treat you like you are spending money. The snapper is a super choice as are the green beans.
Love this place! Such a unique experience and amazing dishes... you will definitely be pleased!
Great meal, excellent location, excellent food, and exceptional service
Everything perfect as usual, except the attitude of the waitress. Usually we get great service but she was not up to par.
My dad and I dined at Le Colonial for Father's Day this year. Not only did we experience quick seating honored by our reservation, but we also had amazing service. The lighting was dim, the restaurant itself was clean, and everything was brought out to us in a reasonable time frame. We started out with the ceviche as an appetizer which was a nice light start to our meal. For our entrees, we split the Spicy Chicken Stir-Fry (this dish had a nice firm kick), and the Shaking Beef which was truly the highlight of our meal. The beef was cooked perfectly, cut like cutter, and was full of flavor. We also both got a side of Jasmine rice on the side. Everything together ended up being more than enough to eat for an extremely fair price. Overall, we had a wonderful outing here and can't wait to return.
Don’t miss the Red Buffalo cocktail, best innovative drink I’ve had in awhile!
The food was fine. I have had better Vietnamese food. I ate the fried rice, and I felt like it was not worth $13 for it. It tasted like fried rice I could have gotten at another Vietnamese restaurant on Bellaire that is half the price. My family had tau hi cari with chicken and Banh Cuon. The cari was excellent, but that could not be said with the Banh Cuon. They said it was tough and had to use a fork to slice it up.Good Banh Cuon is suppose to be separated with just chop sticks. They also got a Massillon 247 which tases fine except for the price. They charge $35 for a small bottle that would fill the wine glass to the brim. They said they can buy a bottle triple the size they sold for $15. Overall I would say this restaurant is selling overpriced Vietnamese food for white people. If you want value I would highly recommend going to a restaurant on Bellaire.
This was my third time here and I expected similar service, however, we had such a terrible server which took over our entire experience. She continued to rush our orders and did not seem happy we were taking our time ordering drinks and appetizers. She closed us out before we even had a chance to order dinner and did not even ask us if we wanted anything else. It was the most strangest service I’ve ever had.
My husband and I had an excellent meal, we will definitely be back! I enjoyed the red buffalo cocktail, which was the perfect balance of sweet and Thai chili heat. To start we got the pan seared chicken dumplings, fire cracker beef, beef noodle soup, and crunchy salad. I can envision myself coming back just for the beef soup on a cold day. The broth was rich and full of flavor. For our main course we had the whole crispy red snapper and a side of brussel sprouts. The server kindly deboned the fish filets for us. The spicy garlic glaze on it was delicious. It was also huge and we could not finish it. Good dish to share amongst a group. Only negative was a lot of confusion from some of the food runners. The table next to us had the wrong dish given to them and we were also almost brought another table's dish. We need to check out upstairs bar area for happy hour/people watching next!
Very nice setting and service but average food. Noise level was quite high though that may have been because the restaurant was busy.
Service was very fast, food came out too quickly! We had to tell our waiter to give us time, she just wanted to rush us along!
I enjoyed the lunch prix fixe menu items of green papaya salad and salmon along with the dessert of mango sundae with chopped cashew for texture. Very helpful waitstaff. Will be back again.
