Le Colonial - Houston
A lavish downstairs dining room is adorned with period photography, overhead fans and leather banquettes, and flanked by a Parisian-Style sidewalk café. A dramatic staircase leads to a second level lounge, where a large bar, mahogany millwork and plush seating create the perfect atmosphere for cocktails and light fare. Custom louvered shutters surround the west veranda, while an additional terrace on the north side is fully enclosed and features additional dining tables. The Lotus Room, anchored by a mural created by Swedish muralist Jonas Wickman rendered in gentle tropical tones, seats up to 14 for private dinners and wine tastings.

Excellent service- Steven was exceptionally attentive. The food was amazing!
This place is amazing. Possibly my new favorite in all of Houston! Wow
The food is always very fresh and promptly served. Waitstaff always great and attentive. A nice change from all the "continental" and Italian restaurants.
Great customer service at all levels - hostesses, bartenders, managers and wait staff. Orders were delivered promptly but didn't feel rushed. We shared the snapper. Can't wait to bring more friends and try the duck!
My second time to eat here and both dishes I’ve ordered ended up basically being m some sort of stir fry that you can get anywhere. I would say the food is average but the place is pretty cool. The bar looks nice though I Vannett spent time in it. The service has always been great!
Deliciousness! Excellent food, spring rolls and tuna tartare were great starters, marinate on the tuna leaves it super tender & a little spicy. For mains this time the green curry was very well prepared generous portions and the cod was amazing!
Excellent selection for food, drinks and wine. Some of the dishes could have more taste as were kind of bland.
We love this place. It lives up to its name in every way. Don't miss the PhoBo. THE best.
We had a wonderful experience while celebrating our anniversary. The staff was wonderful and attentive and the food was delicious. We even enjoyed a special surprise dessert for our anniversary. I know we will definitely be coming back.
Great ambiance! Felt like we were back in Hanoi
Everything was perfect EXCEPT for one extremely loud table in the middle of the dining room. They ruined the ambiance of the place.
Great service and food
Delicious food with amazing flavors! Great service and the ambience was awesome!
Very consistent if you know what to order. Must haves include: ribs, frites, brussel sprouts, signature fried rice and shaking beef. The wait staff is very competent. Get a quiet table if you enjoy talking to your dining companions.
We really enjoyed this restaurant. Excellent service and food was outstanding. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Another bonus is the upstairs lounge/bar. Great set up for happy hours or just a place to people watch.
Best Vietnamese Eggrolls on the Planet!
Manager David very friendly and knowledgable
Le Colonial is one of my faves from Chicago. The Houston location needs to catch up with the service and food you get in Chicago. I will still give it another chance.
I have been here before, but this last visit was so poor, that I feel morally obligated to write a review. This is a nice restaurant, with a nice patio, and nice food for the most part. However, for this last visit, we were seated in the second floor directly below the AC. We were freezing so much that they offered a blanket, but still it was uncomfortable as he air hit our faces.
Second, IDK if it was because we were on the second floor, but our waitress took forever to take the order, bring some of the drinks, etc. She also forgot to ask how spicy we wanted our curry (they usually ask), and sent us the most spicy curry we have had at this restaurant.
Third, this time we decided to try the shrimp curry. Bottom line, it had good flavor but it was basically 3 shrimps and 1/2 cup of veggies. For the price, I think they can make the serving a bit bigger.
I’ll be back (maybe), but next time I’ll avoid he second floor, don’t wait for the waiter to ask how I want my food but rather ask, and I won’t have the shrimp curry.
Fantastic food as usual and the service was very good.
Great food & service! Seems like a new chef is there as the food quality has improved a lot! Grt experience this time!!
I have been to Le Colonial twice now, and it has been outstanding both times. Try the shaking beef....it’s delicious!
Absolutely first class experience. If there is anything that exists called “Vietnamese fine dining”, this is it. Every dish was spectacular- we had the Salmon, the fried rice, the shaken beef, and the red snapper, served whole and fried. The drinks were also first class and creative- peppercorn gin and tonic with lemongrass, and the mescal tropical cocktail (Smokey something?). Highly recommend.
Very pleasant period decor and attentive service. Food was average.
Service was very bad. I will not come back
Love he did service and atmosphere. Not happy with the valet charges for an upscale restaurant should be included.
This is my favorite restaurant in Houston. It has it all---classy, great food and wine, excellent service, and people watching is fun.
Fantastic food, and wine was 50% off on Monday.
This restaurant has a very welcoming vibe to it. The food was very good, one could clearly tell that the ingredients used were high quality.
The food was fantastic as usual! The lobster sauce was amazing. Service was great, very attentive and quick.
Beautiful dining room. Great salmon entree.
Excellent meal and service!
Birthday celebration for Maya. Great service by Anya who was very attentive but not overpowering. Took advantage of the Houston Restaurant Month menu that was a great value.
The décor is reminiscent of Hanoi - dark teak, floor tiles and many touches of colonial Vietnam. We had the Restaurant Weeks menu and everything was delicious. Our server, Stephen, was exceptional; he even noticed 4 times when the small votive candle on the table went out and replaced it immediately. He was very knowledgeable about the wine list and the food flavors, and also very personable. He was one of the best waiters I've had in a long time. and would hope to get him again when we return.
My only real complaint was the extremely dim light in the dining room and the upstairs bar, which made it difficult to read the menus and the checks. I had to use the flashlight app on my cell phone - thank goodness I had the phone with me. One other quibble - the noise level in the upstairs bar (which is otherwise lovely) made it very uncomfortable to stay there. Fortunately, the receptionist was able to seat us quickly. The dining room was noisy, too, but not nearly as bad as in the bar. It was tolerable and we enjoyed our meal tremendously.
Drinks and food were very good. Service could use some improvement. Waiter was only occasionally available and I had a cocktail cleared with a good amount of beverage remaining.
The ambiance and decor of the various rooms in the restaurant and bar are fabulous. The menu has some interesting choices but the food preparation is fairly pedestrian. Perhaps it was just what our table ordered. We stuck to the predominantly traditional Vietnamese dishes. We saw the presentation of the crispy duck and it looked good. The best thing we had was the chicken mushroom coconut soup. That is the one dish I would go back for - but it was an off the menu item. Sadly this restaurant is overpriced. I can see why they have to charge what they do because they are in the high rent district. But their cocktails are at the high end of the price range for the small volume of drink that they serve.
Overall I would suggest you go and check it out for yourself but be prepared to pay more than you might have otherwise been expecting to do.
I loved the ambiance of this restaurant! Everyone is so pleasant! The food is so good!
This place is just fabulous, from the food to the service, and the ambience. It never disappoints.
Another wonderful time at Le Colonial. Delicious food and pleasant environment. Love the vegetarian spring rolls and curry dish! Great people watching and fun bar upstairs.
We had Lunch for HRW and were very pleased with our choice! It was a great meal with impeccable service. The chairs were a problem as they don't fit the tables so you have to be out in the very tight spaced aisle or sit crooked...this is an upscale Restaurant so that was surprising. We had appetizers, Main dishes of Steak Salad and a Beautifully prepared Salmon, and heavenly desserts with lovely Cappuccino. It won't let me post the Dessert pics for some reason, but they were lovely. I felt very decadent eating lovely fresh flowers!
