Le Colonial - Houston
A lavish downstairs dining room is adorned with period photography, overhead fans and leather banquettes, and flanked by a Parisian-Style sidewalk café. A dramatic staircase leads to a second level lounge, where a large bar, mahogany millwork and plush seating create the perfect atmosphere for cocktails and light fare. Custom louvered shutters surround the west veranda, while an additional terrace on the north side is fully enclosed and features additional dining tables. The Lotus Room, anchored by a mural created by Swedish muralist Jonas Wickman rendered in gentle tropical tones, seats up to 14 for private dinners and wine tastings.

Hostess was rude
Great place and great food! We checked it out for HRM. Our waiter was a little rude and short with us the entire time. We couldn’t figure out why - which was the only negative to our first experience. I would go back again because the food is amazing. Plus the up stairs bar w/ a Dj! I must go back.
Went during restaurant week and they rushed you in and out. No time between courses. We ate 3 courses in an hour. Food was great, but the experience was lacking since everything was rushed.
Entered restaurant to take in the beautiful colonial tropical dining area, when my wife and I were promptly escorted upstairs to a cramped, undecorated and insanely loud “balcony” behind the equally loud bar area. The server was not knowledgeable regarding my menu choices as my starter and main course were nearly the same dish. My wife had to return a glass of spoiled wine. . I had made this reservation weeks in advance and the entire experience was a colossal disappointment.
Food is pretty good, and the service is fine. Felt very claustrophobic due to the tables being so close to each other. Also made it hard to have a conversation as a result of the other diners being right next to you. The waitress had a hard time hearing my order. It would make for a much better experience if they removed a few tables and gave the diners a little bit more space to maneuver. I had a difficult time moving in and out of our table trying not to bump into the diners next to us.
Our dinner club went for Restaurant Week. The food and cocktails were outstanding. Presentation was superb. Our waitress was exceptional.
Awesome Food and experience
A birthday celebration, after the main course, we were basically forgotten! We had to catch a manager for dessert menu! Did anyone come back?? Eventually. And then a very elaborate sparkler in an empty glass and then disappeared! No one came back! Oh well, not great service but great food!
Great experience but left my sunglasses at table
Called today at lunch and said were busy with lunch and would call me back. Surprised can’t check lost and found quickly but understand
Beautiful restaurant. Fantastic service!
Best lunch!! Fantastic restaurant week menu. Loved dessert add on
My friend and I had a wonderful time and the food was delicious!
Loved the decor and the food selections were amazing.
Will definitely return.
Took too long to get a table, even though had an existing reservation. The food is amazing
Always great food and wonderful service.... wine list could be improved.
Amazing experience from beginning to end. Great service and extremely delicious food and cocktails. We couldn't get indoor seating so were seated on the patio. Regardless, it was still comfortable despite the hot summer evening. After dinner we headed upstairs which had turned into a lounge vibe with really good music and dancing. We will definitely be back!!!
The food is always great And a wonderful place to dine. The restaurant is noisy if you want to have lot’s of conversation. Service was a bit chaotic. But still love the place.
I had an 8:15 pm reservation for my daughter and her friends to celebrate her 22nd birthday. When they arrived they were told their table would be ready in a few minutes. Unfortunately, that ended up being 45 minutes, which is absurd. Then she ordered a bottle of Cakebread wine and the restaurant was out of it. Very disappointing for a birthday celebration. Luckily they had a very nice waitress.
Nothing worse than showing up and you have a table up stairs in the overflow area behind the bar with a super view of the street when you booked one in the restaurant! Topper was the arrogance of the hostess staff, pretty much screw you that's your table! I've been to other Le Colonial's and never had this treatment. Its not worth the BS! Plenty of awesome Vietnamese places in Houston no need to waste you time here!
The food is fabulous but the service was horrible and certainly not befitting a restaurant of this caliber. We
sat on the patio and had to constantly try to flag down any waiter to get ours to come to the table. Ruined what would have otherwise been an enjoyable lunch with a friend.
This was our second visit to Le Colonial in less than a 2-week period.
The pan seared chicken dumplings and steamed shrimp and chive dumplings are must haves. My wife ordered the Pho Bo both visits and absolutely loved it! I ordered the spicy shrimp stir fry on the first visit and the caramelized filet au Poivre on the second visit. Both dishes were fresh, but both dishes were sweet. It appears to me there was a substantial amount of sugar added to both dishes. For me, this ruins what would have otherwise been a really great meal. It reminds me of PF Changs in that regard.
The other detractor from a great dining experience is the noise level. You can barely hear yourself think. Please management, add so acoustic treatments to your beautiful restaurant.
Excellent food and cocktails as always!
My experience was as expected. The food was tasty and the service was good and attentive. We dined early, therefore I’m uncertain how the staff handles busier times.
Excellent food and great service in a lovely setting.
The food was amazing and plentiful. Every menu item is memorable. The Hostess, Server and Manager are pleasant and attentive. Great quality of the food and service are consistent.
We went for Restaurant Week. Our lovely waitstaff had the brilliant idea of bringing one of each of the courses to the table (5 diff items per course and there were 5 of us). It was incredible! There was not one single dish we could say was better than any other. Excellent meal and service.
Loved everything about it. They were spot on. Fantastic experience. Can’t wait to go back.
Celebrating my hubby’s birthday and food was delicious. We tried the restaurant week and never expected the portion is huge for each course for only $45. Good deal and lovely evening.
My only complaint involves the noisy cars that cruise the streets of the River Oaks District like high school kids cruising the small town strip. Saw and heard the same cars several times and they were extremely annoying.
I was visiting from Chicago and so happy I came here! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was just as great. I would highly recommend and will definitely come back.
Great food and ambiance
Great restaurant with food full of flavor. Enjoyed everything that we ordered and with HRW the price was reasonable.
I went as part of the Houston Restaurant Week and it was my first visit - LOVED the atmosphere and the food was outstanding. I have already made another reservation to go back in two weeks!
They service us the same food but we order different. Strange!
HRW - good ambiance , nice decor . Good for business meeting .
Great location whether you like to sit outside or inside. Upstairs bar and lounge area is beautiful and mostly empty during the day in case you need to take a call. The food is always on point and relatively fairly priced especially considering the location at the heart of the River Oaks shopping center. Lots of people come just for the drinks and it can get a little noisy/crowded in the evening but has always been a laid back and chill scene around week day lunch hours.
This was our second time at Le Colonial, the food and environment was great just like last time, but the service was not up to par this time. Our server seemed a bit off, she did not come around to check up on us much, and the special occasion cake that most fancy restaurants bring on their own as a surprise became really awkward. Instead of brining out the “surprise” cake, she brought the check. When I asked her about the cake, she handed us dessert menus. I went up and talked to the manager, and she said she’ll take care of it right away, but then she came up to the table and asked which one we wanted. That kind of made the whole thing awkward. The last time, the server was so much better, knew beforehand that we were celebrating a special occasion, and brought out the cake on his own discreetly and it was all great. So we expected the same this time, but the experience was very awkward. Other than that, it was fine and I will still recommend this restaurant.
The Brussel Sprouts and Crispy Snapper are must-haves.
Los tragos son muy buenos y la lista de vinos por copa muy aceptable
We enjoy having lunch at Le Colonial! It is a fun place for special occasions!
