Tables are tight
One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago and my recent visit only solidified that! Rafeal was his usual sparkling and personable self and arranged for my very favorite table. My out-of-town guest enjoyed every dish I ordered and we savored every bite.
The new location on Oakstreet is lovely and continues to impress as the years go by. I shall return!
What happened?!?! This used to be one of my favorite places to go. I took an out of town guest and I was heartbroken to see they have crammed as many tables as possible together. There are literally inches between tables. I heard every word of the conversation next to me. It’s lost all its charm. Very sad.
The food was amazing, we ordered dumplings, chicken stir fry and organic noodles. Everything was delicious and very appetizing. Also recommend the mango margarita, a bit strong but not too much. The actual restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, it was definitely fancy. Went here for my four year anniversary without knowing anything about it and my bf and I were happy with our decision. They offer valet for $15-$16 and take card.
The food and service were exceptional. Le Colonial has always been a favorite of mine for exquisite Vietnamese food. But with their relocation, they seem to have stepped everything a notch.
Good experience; outstanding service!
My favorite restaurant in Chicago! Great space, , wonderful service, and the food id amazing. Gregat for lunch or dinner.
Outstanding Vietnamese food. Delicate, exotic flavors with friendly, attentive service.
Le Colonial is a great restaurant for a special occasion. Unique, creative food, an upscale environment, and professional service. Truly an special experience, not to be missed.
Fantastic. Love the new restaurant! The decor and feel is comfortable. The food as always was fantastic.
Love everything about the restaurant except the noise level!!!
DO NOT COME HERE FOR A SPECIAL EVENT. I truly wanted to love this place but our first experience was awful. Made a reservation for my birthday, even noted it was a birthday when I made it, we arrived early for our 6:45 time and were asked if we minded waiting for a better table 5-10 minutes more, which we didn't. We went to the bar, ordered a drink and ~20 minutes later the hostess came and brought us to our table. We were seated, then sat, and sat and sat. Finally a server, a gentleman with glasses -- I didn't get his name, who seem flustered and rushed literally said 'hi, do you know what you want?' -- no welcome, no walk through the menu, no, have you dined with us before. We explained we'd never been before and he briefly walked us through the menu then we never saw him again. From the start of when we arrived to when they actually took our order, it was almost a full hour. A gentleman in a suit who looked like a manager finally noticed us looking around for our non-existent server and took our order, halfway through dinner someone else came by and asked my husband if he wanted another beer which he responded he did and told the man what beer, beer never came, until later and another server came by and finally asked if he wanted another beer. What's worse I learned after we left, my husband had been in touch with the restaurant to have a dessert brought out after our meal, he'd gotten up to go to the restroom at the end of dinner, and even went to the hostess to ask WTF, and she knew nothing about it. There was never a mention of happy birthday despite me noting it on the reservation and him speaking to them in advance. He was majorly disappointed, I felt bummed out. For what you pay and the block this place is on it was a real let down. I wish we'd have gone across the street to Fig and Olive, they do service well. This was a big disappointment, won't recommend and definitely won't return. Spend your $$$ elsewhere. Service is key to a good restaurant.
First time to the new location. Very pleased the atmosphere was just as it was before. We recognized some of the original furnishings. Food was spectacular! Can’t wait to return.
While the food was good, this was my first disappointing experience ever at LeColonial. Noise level was not talkable, service was slow and in light of that, not a good value. I hope this was just a bad night at the new Oak Street $$ location.
Never disappoints! One of my favorite bowls of pho.
Food was excellent, wait staff were poor. Waited 15 min to put in a drink order after the waiter apologized for the wait he walked away for 5 more min and served another table
Love the food
Always hood to be here
a bit too much of a factory i'm afraid + menu has become more restricted than in the past
The food, service and ambiance at the “new” Le Colonial are impeccable. Highly recommend.
We were seated at a line up practically on top of another table when there were other tables ( even though 4 tops were available. ). I should have said something, but was celebrating a birthday and didn’t want to disrupt the luncheon.
Everything was excellent. Except we were sitting in the terrace next to the windows and the AC vents are right there blowing over the table & customers.
We were freezing in a not good way. We love LeColonial. We have been loyal customers since they were on Rush St.
I complain about this AC but they couldn’t do anything.
Lové the New Space
Service very attentive ! Very nice ambiance! Food great!
Très bon et ambiance très sympa
Lovely and delicious
Very unique environment for chicago. Waiters and staff are more like a LA restaurant. Virtually no warmth and if you want a nice table or special request you need to have your wallet out otherwise forget it. They do take care of their vip’s. Food has always been very good and I guess new attitude comes with Oak St address.
Amazing food. Great service. Difficult to find reservations but if you are lucky it’s well worth it!
It was my friends first time there (I used to frequent the old location) - we loved it! Food, ambiance and service was top notch... from the gentleman at the front door, the beautiful hosts at the front desk to our server Jorge and the rest of the staff. Elegant but not stuffy. Highly recommend!
Le Colonial's move to Oak Street did not disappoint. I've always liked this restaurant's decor and the new space does a good job of highlighting and enhancing the spirit of Vietnam. The service staff was professional and efficient. We both enjoyed our meals and drinks. I would recommend it.
The only addition
Please purchase rests for the chopsticks.
I love it!!
Great ambiance, delicious food, fantastic service
First rate dining experience. Very novel setting reflecting southeast Asia. Food well prepared and authentic. Staff very attentive.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We're so glad that you enjoyed your experience as much as we enjoyed welcoming you! We hope that we may have the pleasure of another visit in the near future!
A big disappointment given the quality of the old location. Between 4 of us we tasted 4 different appetizers, 4 different entrees and 2 desserts. Every savory item was lackluster; missing that wonderful Vietnamese flavor profile. It appeared to be a watered down version of the old food. Very disappointing. The server thought she could turn and burn our table, so was a pest in the beginning, pushing us to order. We were enjoying our $120 champagne, so ignored here. Probably won’t go back in spite of living in the neighborhood and enjoying the original.
Le Colonial went from a pretty cool Asian restaurant to go to with authentic tasting cuisines to a fancy wanna be Asian restaurant with bad Asian food or perhaps the taste has been watered down to fit the tastes of the non Asian people living nearby. Might have been a smart company move, but I will no longer think of it as a good place to go to for Vietnamese food near the downtown area. I guess there is just one place left in downtown that has somewhat authentic tastes. Also, I was way underdressed. It is not a place you should not go to in flip flops and jeans. Before it could go either way, but now it's definitely a fancy restaurant but with bad food.
Our Chef/Partner/GM/Director of Operations/Beverage Director/Culinary Director are all Vietnamese-Americans. We serve & employ people of all backgrounds, proud to share Vietnamese cuisine, an amalgam of many cultures. We don't claim to be THE authority on anything, yet what we do is authentic to us. We're sorry our perceptions of authenticity don't align & that you didn't enjoy the food. We regret that we can't suit all 100% of the time, but we're honored for all guests. Thanks for your visit!
The food of this restaurant is delicious, and the service isso perfect. I recommend!
The food and ambiance was incredible! Service was super too and the staff were all very helpful patient and friendly.
We had a delicious lunch celebrating 2 birthdays. A wonderful time was had by all.
