Le Colonial is celebrating 13 years in Chicago’s gold coast area on rush street. This noted up-scale french-vietnamese restaurant transports guests to another time and place, vividly recapturing the beauty, romance and spirit of 1920’s French colonial southeast Asia.View Private Dining Details
Must try the monk fish for dinner and appetizer of lettuce, mint, egg roll wrap. Fabulous! And don’t forget to visit the bar upstairs. Very romantic
Very nice. Had a window table. We were not rushed. Cocktails were good. Appetizers delicious. Duck and salmon entrees were perfect. The server was very nice.
We have been going to Le Colonial since it opened and have never had a meal that was not excellent. It is far than there it’s NYC sister restaurant and is one of the top Asian restaurants we have ever been in.
Our dinner was fresh, delicious, beautiful and we will be back. This is our 4th visit to Le Colonial. It has never disappointed us. We love it so much.
The restaurant was crowded. Every table was filled. ( probably because the food is so wonderful)
Tables very close together making it hard to get from back of restaurant to 2nd floor powder room. Service was ok. We expected a little more from waiter. We had to approach the maitre d to get our bill. Bussing was good and kept our glasses full and table clean.
The price was well worth this wonderful meal.
Enjoyed as we always do. No trip to Chicago is complete without dining at Le Colonial. Every dish was an explosion of flavor. Wonderful!!
Excellent experience! Food is fantastic, service is great. Ambience is calming and very welcoming.
I enjoy this restaurant every time. The food is delicious and well priced, including the options on the wine list. We sat on the terrace and it was very cozy. If you don't want to be too close to any other patrons, the terrace is not for you! I recommend anyone who is looking for likes any sort of Asian food in a lovely atmosphere.
The food at this restaurant is amazing and the waiter staff were excellent. We were just a bit disappointed that we were a party of 14 people, it was very dark (we couldn’t see our food) and the waiter told us that the owner was at the bar and didn’t like having the lights on brighter. Really bad customer service, we had to use our iPhones to try and light up the table to be able to see our food.
Had such a wonderful experience at Le Colonial! Went here for my birthday. The restaurant is beautiful it really feels like you’re somewhere totally different and not in the middle of a crazy city. The food was amazing! Everything was so different and unique! Definitely a must try!
One of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. We love the creative food and quiet lovely atmosphere.
It is the kind of place where you go and want to come back again and again. An inmaculate service and invariable cuisine! Sensational Martinis! Love it again, again and again. Thanks so much!
Another meal at Le Colonial and once again a meal to remember. I do not know much about the French Vietnamese cuisine but I know I have never had a bad meal here. In fact, all of the food was fantastic. I remember coming here in 1990 and I have come back numerous times over the years. I look forward to dining here in the future
I picked this restaurant because my dad's girlfriend was going to be in town (without my dad! just her!), a nerve-wracking occasion for any dutiful daughter. I had to find something a) with solid pescetarian options, b) 'special' ambiance, and c) close to her hotel.
Le Colonial exuded a faint 'old world' charm without being ostentatious, had a wonderfully attentive staff, and the fish we ordered was the best part of the meal (it was the one wrapped in a banana leaf). We ended up talking much longer than I could have anticipated, and over two hours later the server apologetically asked if we could move the conversation to the lounge area and offered us glasses of free champagne for our troubles, to which we expeditiously agreed. Since it was the restaurant's ambiance and good food that caused the meeting to go well in the first place, I could hardly complain.
In sum, I think it is a great place to meet for awkward (and likely non-awkward) get-togethers. Was it expensive? Sure, but cheap compared to the cost of messing this one up.
Food was great. The service however was very slow. We ordered a bottle of white wine which we had to constantly ask the server to fill our glass as he took the bottle away to keep it chilled. Food was great but service leaves much to be asked for especially if I am spending $100+ per person
Great ambiance pared with a great selection of dishes!
All I can say is that is was a perfect night - excellent food and service. We look forward to a return visit!
this restaurant was filled with a very kind staff, which makes all the difference. Knowledgeable about their menu and the food was AMAZING.
By far ONE of the BEST restaurants in the city. I have gone here on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. The food, service are just amazing as well as the ambiance. The bar area upstairs is a great place to have a per-dinner drink. The bartenders are very attentive and extremely friendly. Our waiter was spot with some recommendations. I guaranty you will not be disappointed!
LOVE this place. My favorite hands down thanks to the atmosphere, attentive staff and delicious and unique food.
Lovely meal. Lots of delicious flavors. Everything seemed very fresh.
Le Coloniel is my favorite restaurant in Chicago. It's always perfect in everyway.
Perfect food and service. I recomend for all people to eat there. It is a very nice restaurant.
Always a great meal an d terrific service!! Outstanding Chicago restaurant!!!!!!!
We had wonderful service and will certainly return to Le Colonial again. My wife and I chose to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary at this fine restaurant and I'm glad we made this decision. The food was flavorful, healthy and the staff was phenomenal. Looking forward to returning to try some of the other entrees in the very near future.
Staff was great, food was good, atmosphere was on point.
This place has Wonderful food but
Slow rather disorganized service . The menu is amazing but our server wAs overwhelmed and there were long periods of time between courses
We’ve been dining at Le Colonial for years. Every time is a fabulous experience from the food and cocktails to the service.
French Vietnamese food and the ambiance of Havana - what's not to like?
Bustling but cozy atmosphere with attentive service even for our large party of nine. Everyone enjoyed their meals which included a wide variety from duck to fish to noodle dishes. Come hungry because the servings were generous. Recommended for sure.
Such tremendous service and ambiance. I requested a cozy table for two and got the best table in the house. The maitre d was amazing! I'll definitely go back!
Enjoyed the Pho
Always a favorite with family, friends. Love dining outside in the summer and people watch!
Absolutely wonderful! All of our entrees and appetizers were wonderful - not a bad one in the bunch. The waiter made great suggestions - spot on! The host was also so very nice - gave me a complementary sparkling cocktail as it was my birthday. So very thoughtful! I’d return without hesitation.
Great experience overall. Service was a bit on the slow side (felt forgotten at times) but the food was good. Highly recommend the pho and also the salmon entree. I will come back again
We Absolutely Loved our time with you! Look forward to our Next Visit!
Belated Valentine’s Day dinner. Delicious in every way! Drinks are innovative and tasty. The food was delightful!
Always a special evening at Le Colonial! The Staff, food and ambience are always amazing
Great place to meet with friends or business associate for lunch or in the evening
The typical Valentine’s Day nightmare!
The food was excellent, but the with the waiter I had, it was the most embarrassing experience in life. I went there for Valentine's Day, along with a special female I was dating. She said it was her fav place, so we went. Dinner was great in the beginning. It's the end of the night and I get the bill. It was for $173, a lil more than I expected, bc the waiter charged me for the 2 $75 plates (holiday special) when I clearly didn't ask for that. He insisted he did it that way bc he was saving me money, so I agreed. My date decided to be considerate and offer to pay the gratuity fee of $23, bc even she thought the bill was high. And she never pays. When the waiter came for the check, I clearly told him to charge $150 to my card and 23 to hers. 3 minutes later the waiter brings the check, this is when ish started hitting the fan! The waiter had split the check down the middle and charged us both $86.50. My date then had started to complain quietly to the waiter about the mistake. I told her to calm down, it was a simple error, and he would fix it. So he took the check back, and went to fix it. I looked at the corrected check he brought back, and everything looked fine. Then he says my card was debited fine, but her money won't be credited back on her card until 12am. That's when my date got furious, bc she thought they weren't going to credit her at 12am. Right after that, my date stormed out, left me, n took an Uber home. I'm not rich, so I rarely go to nice restaurants like this, unless it's special like her. I'm sure it didn't help that i was a black guy with a beautiful European woman. So the snobs that were being nosey in this restaurant probably automatically assumed the issue was that I couldn't afford the bill. Never have I ever felt so low of a man until that point. All bc one stupid mistake on the check. Luckily she is still dating me bc she realized she overreacted and I got her some nice things from Victoria Secret for the holiday, she said she loved it.
Overall we had a disappointing valentine’s day dinner here. I had been wanting to try the restaurant so made a reservation well in advance. However neither the website or the two people who called to confirm my reservation ever told me it was going to be a prix fixe meal. I don’t generally mind this on busy nights like valentine’s but the quality of the food just wasn’t worth it. The cost was $75 per person and the meal selections were mostly from the regular menu, at which I priced out our selections to be worth a maximum of $50. My fiancé enjoyed his calamari appetizer but I found my beef to be not of the best quality and then the curry I had as my main was quite bland and really nothing special. They also included an automatic gratuity so with a cheap bottle of wine our meal came out to $250 for the two of us. Service was good but the food was just not worth the expense.
