Le Colonial is celebrating 13 years in Chicago’s gold coast area on rush street. This noted up-scale french-vietnamese restaurant transports guests to another time and place, vividly recapturing the beauty, romance and spirit of 1920’s French colonial southeast Asia.View Private Dining Details
A formal French-Vietnamense restaurant in the Gold Coast that's not the coolest place in town but is quiet, well-run, and good.
Charming place with warm, friendly and attentive service. The food was flavorful, well-prepared and delicious. I look forward to returning here.
I hadn't been here for a while - the room is just as lovely as I remembered.
Drinks were generous, the seafood beignets were fabulous as was the bouillabaisse of coconut saffron lemongrass broth. The duck was OK but a bit dry - I wouldn't reorder. Service was attentive and well done.
Our server wasn’t as friendly and welcoming to me and my girlfriend. Not sure if it was race related or what not, but the experience was unpleasant and uncomfortable. We tried being friendly to her and we felt like we were getting brushed off.
What a fantastic experience! Service was impeccable from the time we stepped into the restaurant to the moment we finished our meal. Jumbo shrimp for dinner was outstanding and so was the Pho. This was our first time at Le Colonial but by the continuous flow of people and lively conversations with the waiters and hosts it was evident that most of the guests were patrons, which is always a great sign. We loved everything about the restaurant and will definitely be back.
This was our second visit to Le Colonial. Overall the food was excellent. My wife has Celiac and so is on a strict gluten free diet. Their menu is very accommodating and the wait staff was quite knowledgeable.
Ultimately I feel like the prices are just a bit on the high side for some of the dishes. After splitting a few appetizers and having a fish entree I felt like I still needed dessert to not be hungry later. But other dishes that were ordered at the table looked to be more substantial.
Much prefer eating downstairs, which is a lovely dining experience. Upstairs is way too dark and the music is intrusive.
Food and service was good.
The first two bottles of wine that we selected were not available, which meant that there was only very expensive wine left, not offered for a lower price.
One of best restaurant experiences in Chicago. Love the food, ambience, and unobtrusive attentive service.
Love this place
Nice evening. the persons we were with are regulars and were somewhat disappointed with the dinner which they felt was not as interesting and creative as prior meals.
Disappointed in service. Cramped. Food okay. Not for me again.
It was ok. Kind of mediocre food.
Honestly I left my main dish (duck breast) given flavor. Chicken soup and scallops salad were plain in terms of flavor. Will not recommend it.
The host was very welcoming and we had a fun table to celebrate my husbands birthday. We enjoyed all the food and we weren’t rushed through our meal. We will be back!
Great food! Unfortunately we were seated by the entryway door which on a cold windy day was unpleasant. Every time someone walked it I felt a cold breeze.
Great food, great service, even better atmosphere.
Great restaurant. Food was very good and the service was outstanding. The wine list superb. We will definitely go back
Always amazing. Food is awesome and location is prime.
Lovely dining room, great menu of beautifully prepared & presented dishes with excellent service -- reasonably priced too!
Cannot wait to go back. Great service, lovely staff, romantic ambiance, and delicious food I am still thinking about.
Beautiful ambience and very good service.
The food has been dumbed down for the mid-west and is rather bland
Too dark and noisy but delicious
Service was a 10, the food was very good. We were celebrating an anniversary and the evening couldn't have been more pleasant.
We love Le Colonial. It’s a beautiful restaurant, great food. Relatively quiet. I’m just sorry we have only recently tried it. We could have been going there for many years. We plan to go there frequently
The one and only downside was our considerable leftovers were not saved as requested but the manager more than compensated us for this error. The red snapper was outstanding as were the sea bass & vege fried rice. The lemon tart’s crust was a bit hard but had an overall good flavor.
We had a wonderful time here. Service was wonderful and my wife and I had a great time celebrating her birthday. Thank you!
I LOVE this place. Food is awesome, service is great and the ambience of the restaurant is lovely! You have to check out the restaurant if you are in Chicago and open to delicate French inspired Vietnamese food!
We have been coming to this restaurant for 15 years. It is always excellent!
Vegan options weren't as good or plentiful as I would've liked (spring rolls were EXCELLENT though!) A little overpriced for what we got. Great service though!
Nice atmosphere and great service. Let down by average food at pretty high prices. Surprisingly bland vietnamese food...
Food was perfect. Attentive wait staff. Great ambiance.
Le Colonial is always good. very nice setting. really good food and service. I've eaten there at least 5 times and it always is good.i love their fried roll( they call it other than egg roll) with delicious sauce. my cousin had a chicken curry dish she loved and i had appetizers.
We loved the food; it's hard to find fresh spring rolls and yours are great. I appreciated the moderate noise level, this is an "adult" restaurant. Our server was well informed and not pushy at all. The bussers, however, constantly walked closely past the table, eyeing my plate. I am a slow eater and after two efforts to take my plate, I had to hold my fork to keep him from taking my plate without asking. But all in all, very good and we will be back.
Love this place, especially upstairs where the atmosphere is very cosy. Food is delicious and very vegan friendly.
Unfortunately this time the service was very poor, our server was barely here, passing by the table in a flash each time. When placing the order she was using dish numbers, just like if we were in a fast food, same thing when receiving the food, "who order the number 41?". Thankfully the hostess was very nice and attentive, and passed by the table to check on us a few time.
We will still be back.
Great food and experience. We loved the Ca Chien Saigon snapper dish.
The Vietnamese coffee is to die for!
