Le Chat Noir Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is excellent and the food is authentic French Cuisine. Staff is efficient and very courteous. This is our third visit to this fine eatery and we hope to have many more in the future. You will not be disappointed.
I took my older mother to this restaurant on her visit to DC. I was expecting a nice neighborhood gem though was put off by the host who was quite rude and screwed up our bill; he added an additional item (and did not include items on the fixed price menu). What was most insulting is that he accosted my mother with a $3.00 bill as she left the establishment when I was in the bathroom. Note I left a tip of $20 on and $80 bill. I wish in retrospect I would have left it in cash so that I could have easily removed it. The food was very salty like my feelings when I departed.
The only good thing about Le Chat Noir is the bus boys . The food took an hour to arrive and was cold. The onion soup had no onions. The crepe dessert was still frozen in the middle and the crepe so tough the other diner had to use a knife. The restaurant had run out of the wine we had ordered but the server didn't let us know that for about 35 minutes. All in all a sad disappointment for what used to be a nice neighborhood establishment.
Pleasant cozy spot. Good service. Reasonable prices. Nice place for a catch-up lunch with friends. Tables spaced appropriately, lower noise level, attentive but unintrusive service. However, food was a bit disappointing. Atlantique omelet was a huge mass of plain bland eggs with a few tiny bit of salmon. No herbs or any hint of flavoring was noticeable. Salad, decent but ordinary. This was a very limited food sampling so will give another try or teo as all other features of the place are welcoming.
The food at Le Chat Noir is exquisite--beautifully prepared and served. Their holiday special menus are always different and creative with perfect food combinations. It's a lovely, warm place to have a romantic dinner. The servers have been there for quite a while and they recognize you--and remember some of your favorite choices! Absolutely great place to go.
Le Chat Noir served us a wonderful meal when friends came in from out of the country and we wanted to introduce them to fine Washington DC cooking. Our main courses were perfectly prepared, the desserts were sensational, and the service was efficient, friendly, and unobtrusive. Especially high marks for the wine list, which serves excellent French wines at far less than the usual 400% markup. No wonder Le Chat Noir has done such good business for so long a time at the same Wisconsin Avenue location. Formidable!
Pleasant on the inside and a lovely covered veranda. The seating is very tight and can get pretty loud when busy. There was just one other table when we came in and very quite. The owner was walking by and always checking to make sure tables were taken care of. He greeted the clients and always said goodbye to those leaving and invited to come back. The service was a little slow but it was nice not to be hurried with the check and have an opportunity to just sit and talk after dinner. The dessert menu is outstanding. Their dame noir crepes are delicious.
Le Chat Noir is a personal favorite because of the excellent food, attentive service, and all-around quality of the dining experience. The proprietor has trained the staff well and is unobtrusively present to greet guests and oversee things in general. This is an exceptional ly good restaurant.
Nice atmosphere , pleasant staff . Food disappointing. Soggy salads with less than crisp greens, halibut overcooked after wrong order delivered, "grandmere's chicken" - specialty dish- stewed chicken with oversalted but otherwise flavorless brown gloppy sauce. Several better french bistro type restaurants within 1-3 miles with better food at comparable cost.
Noise level is very high. Service was terrible -- meal took 1 1/2 hours to arrive!!!! They seemed to have too few waiters. They should have offered us a free bottle of wine, or free deserts. We would NEVER go there again.
It is always like taking a quick trip to Paris to eat in this neighborhood spot. Well prepared food, pleasant service and though the tables are close (too close?) the noise level does not rise to deafening, though the trip to the rest room can take acrobatics.
I much enjoyed a Salade du Chat (delicately dressed), the Crevettes and a sinfully dense mousse au chocolate.
