Le Char Noir is a well kept secret....with a assorted menu for all palates, a varied daily Quiche, the best homemade French bread in Washington, DC and all reasonably priced.

Le Chat Noir is a neighborhood standby. It is a reasonably priced restaurant w/ authentic food and good service. We meet friends and family for dinner periodically, bring friends from out of town or dine there as a couple. The restaurant never disappoints.

Very reliable overall. Appetizers, main dishes good, would have liked some dishes to have been warmer and gougeres definitely could have been lighter. Service very friendly and authentic feeling ambiance.

Overall, our visit to the restaurant was good. I ordered the pork chop, and it didn't have much seasoning, but it was ok. In past visits, the Kir Royale drink has been very good, but at this visit, the drink was missing flavor and bubbles.

This neighborhood gem has good food and a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. We go often--the menu and wine list provide a variety of tasty options.

Pleasant cozy spot. Good service. Reasonable prices. Nice place for a catch-up lunch with friends. Tables spaced appropriately, lower noise level, attentive but unintrusive service. However, food was a bit disappointing. Atlantique omelet was a huge mass of plain bland eggs with a few tiny bit of salmon. No herbs or any hint of flavoring was noticeable. Salad, decent but ordinary. This was a very limited food sampling so will give another try or teo as all other features of the place are welcoming.

Nice ambiance, food was lousy. Poorly prepared and not according to any French menu I've ever eaten from -- and I have had many French meals. Server was not trained in service. All-around felt like amateur hour.

We have been to Chat Noir many times and will return. On this occasion we were disappointed with our table, which was upstairs by the bar.

We first ate at Le Chat Noir in DC in the 90's when our son was a student at AU. We have eaten here several times per year since and always enjoy a very high quality meal.

The food at Le Chat Noir is exquisite--beautifully prepared and served. Their holiday special menus are always different and creative with perfect food combinations. It's a lovely, warm place to have a romantic dinner. The servers have been there for quite a while and they recognize you--and remember some of your favorite choices! Absolutely great place to go.

I had my 2 granddaughters together and we had brunch. Food was great except for the French onion soup...broth too dark/heavy and NO onions in the soup at all.

Le Chat Noir served us a wonderful meal when friends came in from out of the country and we wanted to introduce them to fine Washington DC cooking. Our main courses were perfectly prepared, the desserts were sensational, and the service was efficient, friendly, and unobtrusive. Especially high marks for the wine list, which serves excellent French wines at far less than the usual 400% markup. No wonder Le Chat Noir has done such good business for so long a time at the same Wisconsin Avenue location. Formidable!

The service was very good. I was underwhelmed by the spinach salad which was over dressed and not very interesting. The seafood crepe was not very interesting either and had too much rich sauce for me. Couldn't taste the seafood. The atmosphere is nice.

We love this little French place. Seemingly authentic, quiet, good wine selection and the slight snootiness I want in a French place. Very cute and very tasty 🇫🇷

A favorite in the upper NW DC area. French bistro food, including steak frite, moule frite, boullabaise, lamb, fish and all manner of crepe. Lovely starters and salads as well and a very good creme brûlée. Reservations a good idea. Street parking easy.

Pleasant on the inside and a lovely covered veranda. The seating is very tight and can get pretty loud when busy. There was just one other table when we came in and very quite. The owner was walking by and always checking to make sure tables were taken care of. He greeted the clients and always said goodbye to those leaving and invited to come back. The service was a little slow but it was nice not to be hurried with the check and have an opportunity to just sit and talk after dinner. The dessert menu is outstanding. Their dame noir crepes are delicious.

Le Chat Noir is a personal favorite because of the excellent food, attentive service, and all-around quality of the dining experience. The proprietor has trained the staff well and is unobtrusively present to greet guests and oversee things in general. This is an exceptional ly good restaurant.

Nice atmosphere , pleasant staff . Food disappointing. Soggy salads with less than crisp greens, halibut overcooked after wrong order delivered, "grandmere's chicken" - specialty dish- stewed chicken with oversalted but otherwise flavorless brown gloppy sauce. Several better french bistro type restaurants within 1-3 miles with better food at comparable cost.

Noise level is very high. Service was terrible -- meal took 1 1/2 hours to arrive!!!! They seemed to have too few waiters. They should have offered us a free bottle of wine, or free deserts. We would NEVER go there again.

Friendly and prompt service, relaxed atmosphere, and tasty food. My friend had a yummy ginger and carrot soup and we both had chicken salad. They were accommodating to my requests of dressing on the side.

Our second time at this restaurant and the good was outstanding both times. Some different menu choices from other restaurants which allows you to try dishes you may not see at other restaurants. We would definitely return for a third visit.

It is always like taking a quick trip to Paris to eat in this neighborhood spot. Well prepared food, pleasant service and though the tables are close (too close?) the noise level does not rise to deafening, though the trip to the rest room can take acrobatics.
I much enjoyed a Salade du Chat (delicately dressed), the Crevettes and a sinfully dense mousse au chocolate.

Good food, with interesting choices on the menu. Had duck (slightly undercooked, but it is a French failing). Dessert was a crepe, out of this world delicious.

I cannot be impartial - I love this place - it is good - it has always been good - we went there about 5 years ago and it was good then. We live out of state and often want to return just to eat at this place!

I have enjoyed Le Chat Noir on many occasions. However, the food on my recent visit was inedible. The fish was overcooked and rubbery; the salad was stale and slimy; and the flavor pf everything was unappetizing. I didn't signal the waiter to come over, since I was intent on visiting with my friend, but he also didn't stop by to see how everything was until well after my friend had finished his dinner, so even though he then offered to bring me something else, there wouldn't have been time to eat it. I don't think I will go back any time soon.

Everyone's food arrived cold. Crepe starter was okay but not much flavor to any of the dishes other than the sauce for the frogs legs appetizer but the frogs legs themselves seemed to have been cooked separately and then put with the sauce. I had duck. My wife had the calves liver with prune and star anis sauce, she said that the liver and sauce were cold with little flavor and the liver was dried out.

I bought mineral water with gas and had it stored by the table in a wine bucket by the table to keep it cold but this did not stop the server from pouring tap water from a jug into my half full glass and destroying it. I gave my ruined water back and drew attention to the fact it was mineral water that they had just served me but they never offered to replace and just used more of my bottle to give me a new glass. 5 minutes later they attempted to pour more tap water into my mineral water but I stopped him in time.

We are English and have eaten in a lot of French restaurants in Europe and USA (including some around DC) and the food at this restaurant did not compare well.
