Always pleased with the food and service at this neighborhood restaurant. I also appreciated my server’s recommendation of a wine to match my menu selection.
Excellent entrees, nice drink and wine selection, superb desserts!
Consider us old fashioned, but we have discovered that we prefer coming back to favorite neighborhood restaurants like Chat Noir rather than branching out to new unknown venues. This restaurant is not five star or perfect, but it has all that we want on a Saturday night. It's consistent in it's great food, wine, service, and neighborhood ambiance.
Love this place. Reliable French bistro. Great food and no one’s rushing you out. Highly recommend...
We have frequented the restaurant for years but recently have seen a decline.
We were last there for a birthday celebration and it was disappointing. The service was consistently and unnecessarily slow and a little rude.
The food was adequate but not up to their former standard.
We have always liked the restaurant but may not go back anytime soon.
Dining out for life
People have complained about the service. We had no trouble although we did have an early dinner. Food is good.
Probably short-staffed as the service, aside from water refills, was weak, and the food--when it finally arrived--was not worth waiting for.
This is a fun restaurant where you can easily park in the neighborhood. Service is fabulous. Food really delicious French.
Excellent crepes! This is a pleasant and charming place for any occasion.
Food and service were both excellent. It became a little hard to hear as the place filled up.
Excellent as always. The Raclette was perfect for a cold evening.
As ususal, the meals were delicious. The salads were large and topped with a light, flavorful dressing. The steak frites was tender, cooked exactly to our specification, and the fries were nearly perfect.
The restaurant was closed so we had to find another place That was disappointed
Nice atmosphere, good service, good bread, salad, and decaf capuccino. A little disappointed in the crepe fourree.
Small and quiet with a good selection of food at reasonable prices. The appetizer salad had a delicious Dijon vinaigrette dressing. I was pleasantly surprised at the portion I received on the tenderloin au poive. I expected two small medallions and got three, which provided a snack as a take-home. My wife got cod and loved it. Our server recommended a delicious crepe for dessert and we were not disappointed. Would recommend. Appears to appeal to an “older” crowd.
I go to Le Chat Noir often. Today was a off day.. Some one in the Kitchen must have called I sick as the service was slow.
We had not been to Le Chat Noir for some time, only because we live outside the city. We had been there for a holiday meal during the winter and enjoyed our meal, the amibiance, and warm feel of the restaurant and the staff. It was great to walk in and see the same people and receive the same warm welcome. We were meeting our son, who lives in Glover Park. The company that he works for also provides the breada. It was a great meal, the service is excellant and the food was wonderful. It's on the list to go back more frequently.
This is such a special place that I hate to tell anybody about it!
Food was excellent as usual, but some of the new servers need to be more attentive to when customers are ready to order each course or refresh drinks. We sat inside but it was difficult to get the attention of anyone after we ordered the main course. Inexcusable in such a small space.
Close your eyes and think you’re in the 6th Arrondissment - my favorite French bistro in DC!
Our 'go to' place for a pleasant, low key lunch or dinner - we been dining here regularly for at least the last decade. The specials are always particularly good. Love that our conversation doesn't have to complete with the background music - most places are so loud you can't hear your companions talk. And the service is always attentive but not intrusive.
Great restaurant with a really good menu. It was my first time for dinner but had an equally great lunch over the holidays! I'd highly recommend this place. You must try a dessert!
Always have at least 1 meal at Le Chat Noir when I visit DC. Great food & service. Try the confit canard!
The food and service were good, but they ran out of their specials by 8pm. I would definitely go again but was somewhat underwhelmed this time.
The food was very pedestrian and heavy--more like a middle European cuisine than French. The maitre d was dour and inhospitable. The food did, however, come quickly.
Great place for a group of chatty ladies to grab an early weekend dinner before the theatre. Lots to choose from on the menu. And they were willing to write six separate checks - a big plus - thank you!
I ordered an appetizer, and fully expected a small amount of food. What was a bit surprising was for $12 there were 3 small slices of salmon fume, a slice of red onion, 2 slices of lemon and a petit peu of creme fraiche 3 triangles of toast. No garniture of tomato/cucumber. I thought it meager.
Feels like you’ve stepped into a bistro in Paris, minus the super chic Parisiennes. The vibe is cozy and the food is authentic, delicious and satisfying. I would love to see more young people there... it’s not very diversified generationally speaking. It would make a big difference to the ambiance. Maybe fixed price menus for the 25 and under crowd?
Food and service were good but the close tables and sound level made it un-appealing.
We had a nice dinner here on a recent quiet weeknight. Service and atmosphere were excellent as usual, the food was a bit mixed sadly. Moules Frites were bland and unevenly cooked, and the frites (which also came with my companion’s dinner) were thin, unremarkable fries. My companions NY strip steak was excellent, as were the beautifully dressed green and spinach side salads. Next time I’ll go back to the more ruggedly French dishes.
We have LOVED the Chat Noir and go there often, but last Sunday was not good. Are they under new management? the OJ wasn't fresh, the mimosas lousy as a result, the eggs benedict not good. the crepe with nutela was cold. We were so disappointed
Good food at good prices.
They need to fix how they serve wine by the glass.
To the credit of the restaurant they instantly changed our server. Perhaps it was a server issue.
We were seated at our table on time but except for water refills, were ignored, until I asked for a a server after 20 minutes. A small annoyance. After this, everything went very well. Food was delicious and our server couldn't have been nicer. We'll go back....
This remains my favorite restaurant in DC. The food is traditional French cooking and is uniformally well-prepared. The service is very accommodating and attentive.
Consistently good, cozy and tasty food. Chat Noir has been around for many years and we have never been disappointed. It may not be the most avant guard, but the atmosphere is homey and the people are very nice. We had the Sunday brunch which was an excellent value.
Always enjoyable, great food, excellent pairing options with their wines. Like being in a Paris bistro. Good value.
My entree was a bit salty for my taste but enjoyed the cuisine otherwise. Service was very good.
This is a very nice french bistro. The prices are reasonable for DC and the House wine was excellent. Great service. We really liked the restaurant - it is not fancy, more of a neighborhood place.
