Le Chat Noir
Lovely evening with great food and relaxed ambiance. Wait staff was excellent and a lovely evening.
Snails needed more garlic. Good bread. Veal special was expensive and tough. Steaks were tough. French Fries very good hot and thin.Mussels very small but tasty Desserts grand finish. Banana Crape flame as well as orange crepes delicious. Chocolate mousse yummy.
One of my favorite restaurant in DC
Met friends I hadn’t seen for some time. The ambiance was nice and the food was very good but the server rushed us throughout the evening. One friend pointedly told him to slow down, but he continued to pester us. It was annoying.
We will be back!
Below average food, it took forever to be served. French onion soup was subpar (better at Panera bread), duck was over cooked (we asked medium rare!), special ... was not special. Dessert: we ordered mousse and got KozyShack pudding with whipped cream. And yes, you will not have a private conversation.
This was the second time we dined at Le Chat Noir. It was very busy and the service was a little slow. The waiter highly recommended the ribeye special which was very fatty. I had the swordfish special - the swordfish was a little overcooked and in some strange white sauce that I wanted to scrape off. The salad appetizer was fine as was the stuffed pepper. Kind of underwhelming and not as good as our first meal. It's a cute restaurant but the tables are very close together. The wine is reasonably priced - small glasses but $7.50 not $15. I'm not sure I'll go back.
We had a reservation and were on time, but the host ignored us for about 20 minutes, then claimed that he’d told us they were waiting for diners to finish at our designated table (he hadn’t). Waiter didn’t bring us menus or water for another 10. They were clearly overwhelmed by some private party happening in their upstairs dining area, but they weren’t apologetic about it. We’d eaten there before, but this was a disappointing experience.
While we have enjoyed LeChat Noir in past, the brunch we had Sunday was mostly inedible except for the champagne, the salad and the ice cream. The haddock we both had was mostly inedible and the lemon crepe I had was basically lemon flavored dough. We had a coupon so no real loss but based on this meal will not return on my dime.
Outstanding French cuisine at a good price, wonderful service, and a great atmosphere. I will definitely revisit.
Charming neighborhood restaurant. Delicious food, artfully presented. I hope to return.
Small but very nice place with a great delicious food!!! Good environment and a fast service. Highly recommended 👍🏼
I think this is an outstanding restaurant because it really has it all, at a very good level. We happily drive across town to go there. It is also one of the diminishing number of places where you can go and hear what your dinner companions are saying. Noise levels have spoiled a number of meals for me recently, but not at Le Chat Noir. Not the place to go for experimental cuisine. They respect the traditions of French cooking. The service is kind and attentive, but not intrusive. Nice ambience. The all around experience is really good. I always leave happy and satisfied.
Excellent good (moules and Salmon) - good service and nice atmosphere
Has the vibe of an authentic provincial French bistro!
Seated immediately upon arrival at our reservation time. Very happy with our date night experience here!
we love it with our whole family or just us for special occasion
Good experience overall. I liked the "bouillabaise" and the cold cuts and pate. My wife thought the carb cakes French style were not as good as the standard local recipe but enjoyed her salad. Portions were a bit undersized. The dining room is small and not pretty. Not much space between tables...A minor inconvenience! No problem with finding a parking nearby.
As a new customer we were truly disappointed. Everything was good until the bouillabaisse was served. It was disgraceful with very little fish, 4 mussels and crawfish was so minuscule as to be unrecognizable. Owner was not professional or apologetic. We would never return.
We enjoyed a nice meal at LCN during Restaurant Week. The food was well prepared and tasty. However the service was underwhelming. There appeared to be only one waiter. Dinner took over two hours for three courses.
Management was terrible and wouldn’t let us use our Groupon. Everything else was great!
Le Chat Noir is our favorite restaurant in the DC area! If you haven't tried it you are missing out. From the french bread to the wine to the salad, main course and chocolate mousse, our meal was simply delicious!
Excellent food, good value, just put off by one of the waiters who didn’t seem happy with his job. Besides that, wonderful !
Great food! You can't beat theTravelzoo voucher deal.
Small dining room with too many of tables. One would call it "cozy" except that the noise level was painfully high. We had difficulty hearing each other speak and after the appetizers (which arrived promptly and were excellent), we asked to be moved to the patio which was quieter. Unfortunately, they couldn't (wouldn't?) accomodate us because the only tables they had available were for 4 people and we were only 2. The wait staff was friendly but the main courses took forever to arrive.
The food and service at this restaurant are consistently top notch, even when they are busy. The menu is also more creative than some French restaurants, serving things you don't always see on menus like crepes, both savory and sweet. This is our go-to restaurant even though it is a 10-15 minute drive from home. We also appreciate the free corkage on Sunday nights. It saves on our budget. But remember, you should always tip as if you purchased those bottles from the restaurant. Bravo to Le Chat Noir!
One dish was quite good (the chicken) and one inedible (the pork loin). Fortunately, the very friendly staff returned the pork dish and substituted the chicken. However, a restaurant of this quality should be sure that ALL its standard dishes have a basic level of consistency. (The pork was overcooked, with maybe 3-4 oz of edible meat. Not acceptable for a place reputed to be a good neighborhood restaurant). This is probably a place that is quite good if you know what to order, but you cannot trust all its dishes. However, the staff were friendly and the ambiance very nice.
A small French restaurant in a DC neighborhood that is outstanding. Food was excellent, well prepared and well presented. Wine list had some very nicely priced wines. Out of the ordinary desserts were another highlight. I had one of the specials, my wife had the duck both were excellent. If you like french food, you will not be disappointed.
Lovely experience, drinking Champagne on the porch
Le Chat Noir is a neighhood favorite with very good food and good service. It has an authenticity that some French restaurants don’t.
An enjoyable evening in every respect
Delicious French brunch, at a decent price! The champagne, Pate, bread, steak, salad, and coffee were all delicious!
Staff was new but should improve w experience. Still a good value
Outstanding food. Service was not very good - but I was given the impression this was not the norm. I'd give it another try simply because the food was wonderful. I also like the smaller restaurants.
Good neighborhood place with okay food. Service slow--seemed to be understaffed.
Went here for Sunday dinner and enjoyed the food. There was a slight mix up on the main entree but we had to wait a bit longer than usual between appetizer and main course but we enjoyed the time. Definitely come here for french food with wine pairing.
This was our second time visiting Le Chat Noir and it was just as great as the first. We purchased a deal through Travel Zoo for brunch for 2 with a bottle of champagne/mimosas. They serve fresh, warm bread and salted butter which is delicious. Everything we had, appetizer, entree and dessert was fantastic. The servers worked as a team and were super friendly. We’ll definitely be back.
Absolutely lovely! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and cozy and we felt attended to--and not rushed. The ONLY suggestion I could offer would be to look into a better awning & entryway--especially when it's raining... although... it kind of made it feel like Paris: running into the cafe from the rain!
Excellent service and inspired cuisine. From soup to salad to superb bouride and galettes to wonderful desserts, Le Char Noir never fails to impress.
From the moment we entered and was greeted by an elegant gentleman from Côte D’Ivoire to charming and very attentive new comers like Nathan and Jessica to the handsome owner himself, all service was memorable and outstanding! Definitely 5 stars !!!
Food was outstanding. Service was extremely slow. There was a special event upstairs and it appeared they were understaffed. We have not experienced this in the past.
