Le Chat Noir: My favorite neighborhood bistro. I especially like the holiday event meals. It was Bastille Day this time, and we loved the baked cod en croute. As for ambience-- this time the piped music was too loud, the only distraction from a lovely evening.
Bastille Day Weekend was fabulous. Enjoyed the special menu, usual great service and the ambiance. Making for a perfect evening to catch up with friends.
We had the 3-course pris fixe celebrating the Quatorze, and the food was lovely, with top-class choices. Because the restaurant was full, the staff was rushed off their feet, but they stayed cheerful and attentive. Everything was festive! We are close-to-regulars, and Le Chat is always pleasant and flavorful, but this evening was extra.
Celebrating friend’s birthday. Servers were very attentive. We enjoyed our lunch, quiet but unstuffy atmosphere. We enjoyed ourselves. Will return.
Wonderful food, very attentive service.
A good neighborhood restaurant with great French food. The service is always efficient and friendly; easy street parking nearby.
We had a lovely celebration at our favorite restaurant in the Washington DC area!
Went here for a date night and had a wonderful time! The duck was excellent! We initially sat down in the dining room, but it was a bit noisy so we switched to the outdoor patio, which was much more peaceful. If you're looking for good French food, would recommend Le Chat Noir.
Great neighborhood place. Perfect for a weeknight dinner. Also good for lunch
Lovely evening sitting on this French Atmosphere and Cuisine Restaurants open air deck with a quiet fan adding to the wonderful experience.
The new menu is not French! The duck breast with Polenta, and a salad just didn’t make any sense for a French menu. My guest ordered the daily special veal and it was not French either, besides, it was dry and not thin enough to be called scaloppine.
The suggestion for the wine was unexpected but so a propos, the service was impeccable, the food to die for (bouillabaisse, steak au poivre, and mushroom/cheese crepe, with profiteroles for desert). We sat out in the covered porch and the weather was splendid. Thus was my first visit to the restaurant but I will certainly return for a special occasion.
Brunch selections were numerous; the eggs benedict was very good. Brunch special which included one mimosa was an ok deal but nothing spectacular. However, unfortunately the service left a lot to be desired even though they were not particularly crowded; and even with them not being crowded, the noise level was ridiculous at times. The "outdoor" area was nice; not actually outdoor but like a sunroom, french doors open to the sidewalk so that was actually nicer than actually sitting out on the sidewalk.
The food is always excellent and the service attentive. I have come here for many special occasions.
Went for Father’s Day and the 3 course menu was excellent.
The food was very good, but the restaurant had a special Father’s Day menu which didn’t offer any kids menu items. So we were forced to purchase expensive meals for the kids. They also removed almost all of the crepes from the menu. Good food but very poor value. We overpaid for the experience by a long shot. Best to avoid this restaurant on special occasions. Not worth it.
The food was terrific, prices reasonable, service friendly and the atmosphere conducive to good conversation and enjoyment. Overall, a great experience!!
This is our second visit to Chat Noir, each time it's a special occasion. The food is always good, and reminds my husband of true French cuisine. Each time we've picked something new from the menu to try and were more than satisfied with every choice. We are definitely going to come back for another special occasion and are looking forward to trying something new on the menu!
I live near Le Chat Noir and while my family was in town visiting we decided to try it. It’s a great spot to take family. The staff’s recommendations for wine and food were spot on. I had the french onion soup to start, veal as an entree, and classic creme brûlée as a desert. I will be coming back!
Absolutely wonderful find in NW. we will definitely be back!
Not as good as it use to be. It’s just okay. The crepe has changed. For me, it was not a good change.
Celebrated my granddaughter's birthday and graduating from Brown University. We always get together to celebrate our June birthdays.
Feels very French, with fine food and service, and an excellent brunch menu. Free street parking.
Of course. Authentically French, excellent wine, just enough choices.
Too noisy! Otherwise perfect!
This is a favorite of ours. Always reliable re: service and food. And the open air ambiance in the front can't be beat.
We ate here a couple of years ago and it was great. The place still looks cute and feels like restaurants in Paris. Unfortunately, the food is not as good as it used to be. The fries looked like they were from a bag from the freezer. My bouillabaisse was supposed to include scallops and shrimp but only had 3 mussels, 2 small pieces of fish and a crawfish. How can one even eat a crawfish sitting in a bowl of soup? You can’t exactly pick it up with your fingers! The other members of my party said their dishes were not very tasty either- maybe needs more seasoning? We won’t be going back.
Food was delicious, service was fast and friendly!
We ate here during our visit to Washington, DC. As we were visiting American University, we wanted to eat in Tenleytown. The restaurant was wonderful - lovely covered outdoor patio where we enjoyed delicious food. The service is very efficient, and the price point exceptionally reasonable for DC!
We ordered a chicken crepe. The chicken was over cooked & tasteless. The mignon de porcu was less than average. We have dined there numerous times...very disappointed.
We love Le Chat Noir.....it has always been one of our favorites!
Not really suitable for children.
Food is carefully and tastefully prepared: delicious! Service is just the right amount of attention without being obsequious. The noise level is a bit too high for easy conversation when the restaurant is full.
We are regulars here and always enjoy our meal. This occasion for lunch was with another couple. We all enjoyed our food. We sat in the enclosed terrace and conversation was easy. There were a few glitches in service (having to remind server to bring one persons appetizer, some confusion at first about splitting the check) but this is really unusual.
Food was very good, hot when it arrived, and good amounts allowing you to enjoy course without feeling overly stuffed. Good value. Staff is very friendly, efficient and speak French!
Great neighborhood restaurant. Love the half price wine by bottle one day, glass another and bring your own without corkage fee on another. Bouillabaisse exceptional.
Wonderful food, classy atmosphere, Great place to entertain.
Great French restaurant.
Le Chat Noir is always good, but on Sunday eve the food was actually spectacular! Four of us dined, and four of us loved what we were presented with. Le Chat Noir is a lovely neighborhood spot that goes beyond being just a neighborhood spot. I'd say we are lucky that it is in our neighborhood. It also should be noted that it has a wonderful open air seating area that is a hybrid of indoor/outdoor, which is particularly nice in the city, as one is not sitting near the traffic, but rather cocooned where you can hear the wind in the trees.
We return to Le Chat Noir again and again for all occasions! The food is consistently delicious with an inventive and unique menu! The service is outstanding! This is our family favorite!
Wonderful, small restaurant with excellent French food! They always have a new twist on how their dishes are prepared and served.
