Le Chat Noir
We ate here during our visit to Washington, DC. As we were visiting American University, we wanted to eat in Tenleytown. The restaurant was wonderful - lovely covered outdoor patio where we enjoyed delicious food. The service is very efficient, and the price point exceptionally reasonable for DC!
We ordered a chicken crepe. The chicken was over cooked & tasteless. The mignon de porcu was less than average. We have dined there numerous times...very disappointed.
We love Le Chat Noir.....it has always been one of our favorites!
Not really suitable for children.
Food is carefully and tastefully prepared: delicious! Service is just the right amount of attention without being obsequious. The noise level is a bit too high for easy conversation when the restaurant is full.
We are regulars here and always enjoy our meal. This occasion for lunch was with another couple. We all enjoyed our food. We sat in the enclosed terrace and conversation was easy. There were a few glitches in service (having to remind server to bring one persons appetizer, some confusion at first about splitting the check) but this is really unusual.
Food was very good, hot when it arrived, and good amounts allowing you to enjoy course without feeling overly stuffed. Good value. Staff is very friendly, efficient and speak French!
Great neighborhood restaurant. Love the half price wine by bottle one day, glass another and bring your own without corkage fee on another. Bouillabaisse exceptional.
Wonderful food, classy atmosphere, Great place to entertain.
Great French restaurant.
Le Chat Noir is always good, but on Sunday eve the food was actually spectacular! Four of us dined, and four of us loved what we were presented with. Le Chat Noir is a lovely neighborhood spot that goes beyond being just a neighborhood spot. I'd say we are lucky that it is in our neighborhood. It also should be noted that it has a wonderful open air seating area that is a hybrid of indoor/outdoor, which is particularly nice in the city, as one is not sitting near the traffic, but rather cocooned where you can hear the wind in the trees.
We return to Le Chat Noir again and again for all occasions! The food is consistently delicious with an inventive and unique menu! The service is outstanding! This is our family favorite!
Wonderful, small restaurant with excellent French food! They always have a new twist on how their dishes are prepared and served.
Great French ambience in a popular local spot. The menu is excellent and sophisticated. My wife has a number of dietary restrictions, which they accommodated by modifying the menu item. She felt it was the best restaurant meal she's had in a long time.
Having made our reservations 5 days prior to the reservation date, my husband and I arrived on time to a restaurant that was almost empty. At that time, we were told that the only seat that was available was one that was on the porch in front of the reservation desk and next to the door. The evening was windy and cool. When I asked to be seated inside, my husband and I were given a table next to the kitchen. The hostess insisted that the waiter take us to that specific table - end of discussion. As the evening progressed the restaurant began to fill, however, as we were leaving we took note of the fact that there were quite a few tables left where we could have been seated including two locations that seated 2 people. Why we were treated in this manner is a mystery to us. We have visited this establishment several times and have never had an issue. Although the food was good, we are looking for an experience that includes good service by the staff. We will not return and will encourage our family and friends to find other restaurants in the DC area given our experience. My husband and I are retired, and we have the time to search for a restaurant that values their guests. There are gems out there just waiting for us!
I always bring out of town guests because this place is so elegant. I wanted to be seated upstairs but there was a private party so no luck this time. Downstairs is a bit crowded and noisy but still enjoyed the meal
The restaurant is lovely. The doors allowed a very pleasant breeze to flow through the space. Very French. Portion size was good. Food was tasty. Sorbet was especially good.
The staff is very unwelcoming. When we asked that the music which was at full blast be lowered, although there was no other patrons, the manager refused telling us that it is part of the ambiance. We are not going back to this restaurant, especially since it is not the first time that we encounter that kind of behavior on the part of the manager. Very unpleasant experience.
We brought our 10 year old twins here on a Saturday at 6 pm when it was just getting the dinner crowd going, we were sat immediately and also were able to order simple pasta w/ butter off menu for the kids. My husband I loved our app's and main's much more than many other French restaurants we frequent in the DC area! Deserts were also heavenly as was the check amount!
Service was excellent, great assistance with Boyle of wine selection. Our glasses were never empty. Food was spectacular and it was a perfect evening!
Our food was excellent! Service was great! It was a wonderful experience at Le Chat Noir!
Perfect in every way. Prices were extremely reasonable for both food and wine. The service was excellent, the owner was extremely attentive and helpful. You get a steak that’s 95% as good as the great steak houses at 60% of the cost. That’s a great value. I will most definitely eat here again.
Food was delicious and presentation beautiful
Server very attentive
Will surely come again
We regularly go to Le Chat for our anniversary. Absolutely love this restaurant. The food is great and the service is always top notch!
Unfortunately, the restaurant didn’t have my reservation but they did seat us.
Delicious, Authentic food, good service, nice people. This was our first visit, but won’t be our last.
Slow service on the Food 'n' Friends contribution night -- and we went at 8. Otherwise it's usual friendly self. Trio of pates and bouillabaisse notably good.
I know many people think of Le Chat Noir as a neighborhood restaurant, and, indeed, many of the patrons are able to walk to this great French cafe. But my husband and I drive down from Gaithersburg because we enjoy the place so much. All the staff are very friendly, and the food is delicious. We've brought many friends here.
Attended for Food and Friends event. Delightful
This is one of my favorite French resturants in DC Nice Bistro atmosphere, great wine and drinks , outstanding food. Sam the owner is very attentive. Easy parking.
Their food is always consistently good - as well as their wine. You'll love their hot onion soup as well. You won't be disappointed.
As with Jose Andreas and Robert Wiedmaier, the great restaurant owners of Washington DC, Sam , le patron at Le Chat Noir, is outstanding!
Every time we dine here we leave very happy and content and with continued wonderful memories especially if we are are blessed with the very attractive, attentive, and caring Marina, our server.
Yesterday we were fortunate enough to have brunch. From the pricing ,one can see immediately that this is one of the most reasonably priced mid day weekend meals anywhere near Washington DC. Yet, the quality of the diverse prix fixe menu rival far more expensive places. Each dish is thoughtfully created by the very fine kitchen and always served oven or pan hot.
Amongst the highlights for us were the salads, pate, different versions of eggs Benedict with lemony true Hollandaise, crepes with Nutella or lemon ( both great) and mimosas that allow you to decide on the orange juice to French ( Blanc de Blanc) “ champagne “ ratio.
All this was served with a beautiful smile supplied by the charming Marina and under the watchful eye of the lovely Sam. There could not be a better local “ find” anywhere . Plan early for a reservation. They are very often fully booked.
A beautiful space, but the food (we had the duck and the veal) was extremely bland. Maybe we misordered. Perhaps the lack of salt speaks to their target demographic. The service is authentically French. It’s great as a neighborhood spot but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again.
I enjoyed everything. The welcoming, the seating, the service, the food and the professionalism of your staff.
A real gem of a French restaurant in Friendship Heights neighborhood. We were a party of 6 persons, who ordered variety of dishes from the extensive menu, including the set three course one. Everyone was very pleased with his or her respective choice. Our waitress was very accommodating and even split the check among the three couples. We dined at a leisurely pace and did not feel rushed even after we had paid the check. Definitely a place for several return visits.
Quick, attentive service. Kid friendly, but no kid menu. (My 4year old son got the quiche and loved it).
the most Parisian place in DC!
Travelzoo vouchers are the way to go! This is my third time eating at Le Chat Noir and each time, it has been with a Travelzoo voucher. It is an awesome deal with three courses for two and a bottle of Prosecco with orange juice. The appetizer options are a little weird for breakfast options (salad, pate or soup) but were delicious none the less. We had the Gallette and the French Toast and both were delicious. We had the Citron crepe and ice cream for desert, both also delicious. Each portion was just the right amount so we left with no left overs. It is really a treat and I feel like I have traveled to Europe or something each time we go.
Arrived on time. Waited 5 minutes to even be acknowledged and another 10 before being seated. Then we were pushed to order; very passive aggressive. The mediocre food is not worth snobby and poor quality service. Let it be the neighborhood place in some other neighborhood.
