Chef-owner Jesse James spent his early career in Boston, working with chefs Moncef Meddeb at L'Espalier and Jasper White at Jasper's, with further experience at various other prestigious and landmark restaurants in New York, France, and Italy. Le Central is the third restaurant he has designed, built, and operated, after Aperto (Est 1992) and Boca Rotis (Est 1997), both in San Francisco.
The large painting by Inez Storer on the south wall of the restaurant (which also serves as the background of the restaurant's website) is of Jesse's son, Sam, and his dog, Skye. Inez wouldn't say who the guy in the chair is.

Food is consistently good- creative choices. Service was was attentive but so smooth you barely noticed it- rare these days. A nice lunch outing
Very nice 1st experience with this restaurant. Food was delicious. Our waitress was courteous and attentive.
Just a great dining experience.
Great food, drinks and service.
Le Central is so wonderful. Every time I go, I feel like I’ve transported to Paris. The wine and the food is excellent. Every detail is considered.
A nice surprise. We were timing a train pickup in PVD and were looking for an 8:00 p.m. reservation. Lovely staff, good food. We will be back.
We’ve been twice. The food, service, cocktails, ambience are all amazing. Wish we lived closer!
Excellently prepared food friendly efficient service in a charming Main Street restaurant having a nice wine selection and interesting menu options
Service was perfect. Explained dishes and very courteous. Food was fab. We had Morrocan chicken, which was flavorful and juicy, and the rack of lamb was cooked just right. Great value too. Prices were better then we see at lesser restaurants.
Great drinks, great food and great service!
First time visit.Excellent food and service. We shall be returning
The duck liver mousse was outstanding, rack of lamb and chicken entrees were cooked as requested. Service was excellent, if somewhat rushed as the restaurant was closing early.
We went here for Sunday brunch.
Le Central never disappoints. This visit was no exception. The bonus was superb service that made us feel at home. We wondered aloud "How do they do it? Hard work with a smile, even a laugh."
Outstanding food, drinks and service. The ambience of Le Central is just great
Our meals were delicious, service was great, was quiet enough to talk ... we had a lovely bruch. Have always had a delicious food and great service here.
Jillian was a pleasure! The food was delicious!
I LOVE going to Le Central! It always delivers for excellent food and a Provençal atmosphere.
Thank you. Also, the wait staff are well trained and pleasant; I appreciate that too
Have been dining at Le Central for years and it is consistently good with excellent service. We especially like the Stimulus meals...great value.
We went to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant was only partially full when we arrived and thinned out during our time there. Apparently we had one of the latest reservations at 6:45pm because when we ordered dessert we were told that the kitchen closed at 7p so there were only two desserts to choose from of the 8 or so offered between the special and main menus. Our server should have given us a heads up about that earlier. The food was good, but not amazing.
We thought this haven for French bistro cuisine was delightful. Steak frites was plentiful and tasty as was Coq au Vin. Very good, well made cocktails and small but pleasing wine list. Desserts were excellent. French onion soup appetizer is a must-order item.
Always a delight to dine at Central - the food is consistently good and the service is always a delight
Interesting menu and well prepared
Nice environment, with tables appropriately spaced
Only gripe was amount of wine served
We had brunch for my birthday. The food was very good, but portions were small. I had hoped for crepes, but there was only one kind on the menu and I didn’t care for the lemon filling, so I ordered the dutch baby pancake, which was very good. It was very cold in the restaurant and we asked to have the A/C temperature raised but they would only shut off the ceiling fans. I will try again as the food was very good, but I did not find the service to be accommodating.
Love the atmosphere, service and excellent choices of food and drinks.
Outstanding drinks, food and service.
Don’t kiss LeCentral.
Started off with Bourbon Smash-Le Central style. Outstanding!
Plateau Grande platter is fresh, chilled and great presentation.
The Moroccan Chicken was cooked to perfection just like the Steak Frittes.
The lemon crepes and special were the right ending.
We love Le Central.Never disappoints
Went to brunch w a friend from out of town. First time visit. The service was below par. Waitress forgot we ordered an appetizer—never mentioned and never received. Waitress was a bit uncertain about the menu as well as beverages served. The decor and ambiance was not what would be expected from a higher priced French restaurant. The food was the saving grace. The crepes were deliciously and delicately prepared in a way you could savor every bite. The French fries served w the brunch sandwich were perfectly seasoned. Unsure about returning in the near future but may try again down the road.
Amazing food exceptional wine list
The staff is friendly and attentive, the food was amazing, delicious, wanted to lick the plates good. I will be back...a lot.
We went for Fathers Day and my husband said we might have to make this a tradition. We all loved our meal and the staff was great.
Brilliant cuisine. Wonderful service. Best in Bristol and our go to for lunch, brunch, dinner or just drinks and light hors d’ oeuvres.
Food was very good and came out quickly Front of the house needs a lot of work. The server was a deer in headlights, very green, did not have her timing down or steps of service. Tables were uneven and mismatched. Paper straws disintegrated in a half a drink. Manager was unwilling to accommodate a simple request.
It was a rainy night : ). Donna and I set a seven thirty reservation greeted warmly in this window front bistro on the main drag. We stated with two of the salads hers endive and walnut. Mine greens and blue cheese. Both amazing and generously portioned Then I opted for the duck purine with a delightful spicy cheddar sauce. Donna the rack of lamb. Both perfectly rare as to our instructions Run don’t walk to these chefs.
This was our second visit to this excellent restaurant. Our waitperson, Kristen, also the GM, was, as remembered from our previous visit, welcoming and very informative. We had excellent salads, charcuterie and pate plates accompanied by a very good and reasonably priced, Sancerre. Everything was nicely presented and very much in the tradition of French restaurants.
This restaurant is a quiet gem and well worth visiting.
Perfection per usual! The steak frites never cease to wow me and perfect place to celebrate the Francophile who loves food!
The coq au Vin and the steak frites are the best.
We love the place, nice pleasant atmosphere, accommodating management, great food. Their onion soup is the best.
Food and service were excellent. Plus menu is very reasonably priced. The interior looked like it could use a bit of a face lift. Also it would be lovely to have more comfortable chairs. All in all though, a great little place.
Consistent - fun - flavorful and a neighborhood gem - our favorite go to nearby but well worth a drive too!
Fantastic food and vibes- fresh fish!
