“Le Cavalier” (pronounced: luh-KAH-vuhl-YAY) honors the deep equestrian tradition in the Brandywine River Valley.
Le Cavalier (Le Cav) is a French brasserie from Chef-Partner Tyler Akin that takes the brasserie out of Paris and transports it to Wilmington's iconic HOTEL DU PONT. Provençal fare meets North African and Middle Eastern influences in the dining room that once housed the historic Green Room. Le Cav is open for dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays with indoor and seasonal outdoor dining. Brunch available for Sundays.
The Le Cav Team is excited for you to share this unforgettable experience.

Had breakfast after our stay in the morning!
Food tasty and plentiful!
Service- Megan was great and pleasant!
Price for breakfast in a beautiful hotel was reasonable!
Would love to try their dinner one day✅
It was a “special occasion” place and now it is a “we won’t go back” place.
Historically, the Green room at the Hotel Dupont was elegant and exuded class. The only music was the beautiful sounds of a harp. The bar was in a separate, adjacent room. The service was superb. The menu had ample choices. We do not live in the Wilmington area but have had the pleasure of eating in the Green Room several times.
We will not go back again. Now, there is a bar in the room, from which a great deal of noise emanates. Piped-in music also is loud. It was difficult to hear the other party with whom we dined speak. The menu was not creative and was limited to about six entrees. They masquerade as a French restaurant but hamburger and steak are not very French. Piling on large quantity of pommes frites (French fries) does not make an entrée French. I ordered Pork Porterhouse, my wife Duck and our friends both ordered Steak Frites. None included a vegetable. Mine was a large quantity of tasteless rice. The others all received pommes frites. The overall experience was mediocre at best. The cost far exceeded the quality. Don’t waste your time.
The ambiance was wonderful the servers friendly, Hillary, our primary server was the best! The bar manager was totally impressive with his knowledge and helping us pic a wine.
Anniversary celebration - great food & service - beautiful space in historic hotel. Would definitely recommend
Terrific food and very good service and the atmosphere is as good as it gets.
Great food that was creative and flavorful, beautiful room, attentive and friendly service
Just awful! Please read and heed this review if you are planning to celebrate a special occasion at this restaurant. You will be so disappointed. Last Sunday we booked a brunch for 4 6weeks ahead to celebrate my daughter’s college graduation. We arrived to a restaurant with unbussed tables everywhere, the hostess wandered the room unsure where to seat us, and then after ordering drinks we were told half the menu was unavailable. Eggs and bacon was our option. A local diner would have offered us more. (The excuse “ we have been very busy” Well they take reservations so they knew we were coming...) The special “mint” mimosas had one piece of old black mint on top- I only wish I taken a photo to convince you not to order those at $14 each and not to dine here. Disgraceful and then while we are still eating a server starts sweeping the floor right at our table! We were not lingering and in fact we’re out of the restaurant in less than an hour. And I could go on...We are from New York and regularly dine out. Last Sunday we were frustrated, shocked and severely disappointed that we had imagined this would be the place to celebrate a once in a lifetime event. I had to apologize to my daughter on the day of her commencement. Shame on management, shame.
Decor is stunning, food was ok, service was good.
We dined here to celebrate our anniversary and enjoyed our meal very much. All the wait staff were cordial and assisted although they were busy.
Fabulous service, great brunch. Our waitress, Cindy, was fantastic… a perfect waitress. She was friendly, efficient, and ensured we had everything we needed while not hovering. The food was superb and the restaurant had a nice ambiance too.
Server T was great! Attentive; prompt; informative; friendly. Food was good
Lobster tails were so goid
I saw this hotel and restaurant reviewed on tv and knew I had to visit. Rob was our server and made the whole experience special. The menu is limited but very good. The room itself, as well as the DuPont Hotel, is beautiful. We were passing through Wilmington on our way home to the Midwest and are so very glad we took the time to do this. We highly recommend enjoying a stop here.
Food & Ambience Great ! Service was spirited & quick. A bit $$$$ but still a must visit.
I absolutely loved this place. From the food to the service to the beautiful decour. Highly recommend this stunning, elegant restaurant!
Impressive atmosphere, excellent food, good service
The food was good once it arrived, but it was incredibly slow. We waited over 1.5 hours from the time we ordered our food to the time our main courses arrived. In the meantime, our waitress would disappear for long stretches of time.
The ambience was good, so since the food was good I'll give it another chance in a few months, but I would not go anytime soon.
This recently renovated historic site maintained its unique ambiance while upgrading the current hospitality style. Ewelina provided exceptional service and thoughtful recommendations. We enjoyed our food, however the steak was unexpectedly tough. We highly recommend Soupe A L'Oignon, Little Gem Caesar, Lobster Tails, Chicken Provencal and Branzino. We look forward to returning and next time we want to experience a creative cocktail at the beautiful bar. We wish Chef Tyler Atkin and his team continued success.
A lovely place for Sunday brunch. The Croque Madame was amazing! I was told they will soon be bringing back their Afternoon Tea. Dine here, and then go to the Nemours Estate that is 4 miles away. It will be a great day!
They need to work on everything.
Service was slow food not hot.
Service workers very nice but not really knowledgeable
This my 7th time since the opening and everything has really come together for the team at Le Cav. The service was spot on and timely, the wines were perfectly paired and served at the right temperature, and the food was exceptional. Well done!
The food and the atmosphere were excellent as was the service, but the fact that they changed my reservation time twice and they changed the menu from the original menu I expected when I made the reservation was a major disappointment.
Excellent drinks, service, and ambience. Limited Mother's Day menu food only fair.
The food wasn't worth the high price. The drinking glasses smelled bad. I asked to replace the first glass and the second one smelled just as bad.
My family dined here last Saturday night to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It was our first visit since the restaurant reopened under new management. What was always the most beautiful dining room in Delaware has been subtly redecorated into a French cafe themed venue. The addition of a sizable bar that now occupies one end of the dining room fits nicely and provides a much-improved staging area for pre-dinner cocktails or bar dining. The old bar, which is in a separate room, is reserved for special events. Other than the seating, new lighting fixtures adjacent to the tables, and a fresh supply of impressionist art on the walls, little else was changed. That was a good decision, since the spectacularly ornate ceiling, walls and tile floor defined the room in exquisite Edwardian style.
As to the food, the menu was limited but the selections were varied and appealing to a variety of palettes. Our appetizers were delicious and arrived in a timely manner. Our main courses, on the other hand, required an extensive wait and were lukewarm at best. All the ingredients were there for a delicious meal if they had been delivered properly.
Granted we’re still dealing with a pandemic and perhaps some of the staff was still green, but one can only forgive so much. The hostess undoubtedly agreed, since she apologetically comped us for the entire meal including a pricey bottle of wine.
Notwithstanding the poor showing, I would return and give this venue a second chance. The room is too beautiful to ignore and hopefully the new management will get its house in order.
Food was excellent but service was extremely slow
We love the ambiance. Service and food were impeccable. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
Apps were excellent. Dinner was superb. Desert was a huge letdown (avoid the rye chocolate cake). Overall we were very happy, but absolutely disappointed with a poor ending. We’ll be back as the setting and savory items were on point.
Another icon dies. We’ve enjoyed the fine dining in the Green Room probably 150 times over thirty five years and we were looking forward to their reopening. Fortunately, the new owners couldn’t destroy the classic room because if it’s protected landmark status. The redo was nice.
However, I heard they sent the chef to France for inspiration and to develop the new menu. He must have kept the expense money and gone to Camden for menu ideas! Only six poorly selected entrees including a cheeseburger, a chicken breast, a thin fried steak patty with fries and a boiled cauliflower head. This is an overpriced joke for a bistro menu. If the you or the new owners want to visit a French bistro in Wilmington try Eclipse.
The service was good, but slow.
I won’t return.
Cocktails and food (though limited) were excellent. Love the make over of the Green Room, however removing the curtains and carpeting has created acoustic challenges. We also felt that some of the furnishings were not at the level of the rest of the space. Tables appeared to have inexpensive, laminate tops and chairs were not very comfortable. Old school white marble or a nice quality wood would be more fitting.. maybe once sales pick up! Anyway, just my two cents. Overall, a great experience!! Thank you!
Le Cav was fantastic. This was our third time in the last two months and each time has been terrific. The cocktails are as creative and delicious as it gets. The bar itself is the best in town. And the food, as representative of modern bistro fare truly delivers. Maybe the best steak frites I’ve ever had. And the chicken and the Brandi...omg! Not to be missed. We will be back for the wine dinner on the 20th!
Date night! My wife and I had a great evening thanks to the staff. Our entrees were great, but took about an hour to receive. Something about the printer not connecting with the kitchen. It was okay though, we were enjoying each others company in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Once our meals did arrive they were really good. The staff comp'd the entrees and apologized several times over. No worries! We had no place to be and were relaxing after a long week. Even though dinner was long, we still thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our best experience yet. Our server, V, was excellent. She made this a dining experience rather than an eating experience. If we could be sure we’d have her every time we dine, we’d be there every week.
Would return in a minute. Service was excellent, loved my bronzino and the ambience superb. Thank you!
A lovely setting for brunch. I had the special which was an omelet with lobster topping.
It was delicious. Waiter who normally worked at the bar was very helpful.
A group of 6 dined for breakfast and dinner. While the restaurant is beautiful and the waiters spot on, the management and food are lacking in many areas. Fried eggs were ordered for breakfast in three different stages of doneness but all came out well done. Reservations were made with the understanding 6 people could sit together. This was confirmed twice with the front desk of the hotel and the restaurant but upon arriving the manager was unbending about only 4 seated together. Our evening was ruined and the food only average.
Food is prepared in a very "unusual"way that did not appeal to anyone in the party of four.
Steak tartare had no yolk in it, was briny from admixed olives.
Foie gras is so blended it is nearly runny.
Mother of hen mushroom appetizer ere good and the highlight of entire dinner
Duck breast was prepared ok but served on top of se very rich, mayo-like sauce with french fries as a side.
Chicken was literally half of chicken with burned and bitter skin and dry meat.
Bronzing was prepared ok but served on top of some very rich cream-like sauce.
Burger was ok, but nothing to come back for.
Very different and unexpectedly unappealing food preparation and ingredient pairing compared to Green Room.
Outside seating does not provide enjoyable ambiance.
Outside seating had no cover and no heating because their heaters were "acting up", all of them.
Outside seating is right next to the traffic light, often had to deal with cars
sitting at the light with very loud music.
