“Le Cavalier” (pronounced: luh-KAH-vuhl-YAY) honors the deep equestrian tradition in the Brandywine River Valley.
Le Cavalier (Le Cav) is a French brasserie from Chef-Partner Tyler Akin that takes the brasserie out of Paris and transports it to Wilmington's iconic HOTEL DU PONT. Provençal fare meets North African and Middle Eastern influences in the dining room that once housed the historic Green Room. Le Cav is open for dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays with indoor and seasonal outdoor dining. Brunch available for Sundays.
The Le Cav Team is excited for you to share this unforgettable experience.

Tasty Food, Friendly Staff, Great place! Nice to meet with friends for drink and brunch. The only unpleasant thing is to see the strange paintings on the walls which absolutely don't match with the beauty of the restaurant.
One of the most relaxing and enjoyable dinners I have ever had. Our waiter was so polite and respectful. He answered all our questions and recommended some great food. We will be back.....soon!
I really wanted to like the restaurant. It is beautiful inside. The service was poor. They forgot our drink order. They did not know the code to the restrooms. And were not attentive even though the dining room was just about empty. The food was also not very good. The Bronzino was OK, the fish was fine, but to put the heavy butter sauce on it just seems a travesty.
I understand they are trying to do something different with the cuisine, but I suggest it’s not working. I was excited to go here for the first time,But unfortunately I won’t be back. Please change the menu and have someone run the restaurant who can manage and train the wait staff. Thank you.
This was such a come down from the beautiful, elegant, Green Room I have always loved. Le Cavalier is sorry to say, nothing special.
The bar is beautiful and the bartender great.
So sad to not have the Green Room anymore.
We were a little disappointed with the new iteration of the Green Room. While the service was excellent (in the old Green Room tradition) the food was not as we remembered, and really no better than a number of other Wilmington restaurants (which are not as expensive). Probably the worst thing was the red wine, which was served CHILLED (can you believe it?). The bartender was VERY obliging and retrieved a fresh bottle from the cellar, which was not quite as, but still pretty, cold. Also I had been looking forward to oysters, which were on the on-line menu, but not on the paper menus, and not available. Otherwise Le Cavalier is OK, but not worth the tab ($170 with 2cocktails (the martini was excellent), a glass of wine, and tip).
Very nice service/food.
We had a fantastic meal celebrate our anniversary and have our six-year-old son join us who loved the recommendation from the winter. The staff was very friendly and positive. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is inviting with upbeat music and modern art which contrasts the historical element nicely. We will be going back soon and look forward to sharing our delightful experience with friends and family.
Food was delicious. Server was very nice. Great ambience. Beautiful architecture in the restaurant.
Food was good but service was terrible! We waited 15 minutes before anyone ever came to our table then 30 minutes for a drink and they brought the wrong drink. It took a manager to get our drinks to us. Maybe just a bad night .....we will go back because the food was good and hopeful that they get a new server.
Extremely efficient and friendly service. Excellent cocktails. Beautiful environment. Well-priced food.
Steak tartare had a beautiful balance of flavour but the meat was a little stringy. Could have done with a green garnish as the dish lacked in presentation. Both Lamb tagine and Pork Ragu were delicious but again presentation was average considering the style of restaurant. Wine list was very limited but understand that they are focussing on organic wines only, hopefully more choice will be added in the future. Overall a wonderful experience, we will be back.
A beautiful renovation of the restaurant! We had great service and enjoyed the experience. The menu was a little limited during Covid but we will definitely be back.
Went back for Brunch and it was amazing. Had a dozen of the oysters which were perfectly shucked and cleaned - they were delicious. Also, the French onion soup was divine! I love the old world elegance and modern comfort of the space.
Wow, that was a phenomenal dinner. The table had the Parker Rolls, Chicken Liver Mousse, Cassoulet, Steak Fries, and Cauliflower entree. Everything had wonderful flavor. Would definitely order each thing again. Although the winner of those was definitely the Cauliflower roasted in Middle East -North African spices with a side of Tangine rice and root Ratatouille. That was the best vegetarian dish ever, so delicious even for the carnivores out there. The server who was wonderful also agreed that she was jealous that we were enjoying her favorite dish. No knock on the other dishes which were great. Nice pacing of the food, came out in a timely fashion. Our kudos to the kitchen and the wait staff. Only off note which was the art in the baroque room was a bit distracting. Definately do dinner at Le Cav.
Bartender and server went above and beyond on Christmas day with their attention to detail and made us feel very welcome. FYI - they do enforce a ‘mask when not eating’ policy. It’s a little odd but what isn’t in 2020. The restaurant is beautiful!
Returning for a second time, all 3 of us were sorely disappointed. The branzino was mushy. It should have been firm and crispy. The appetizer (leeks) were fibrous, too vinegary and difficult to cut. The short ribs (we were told this was the last plating) were overcooked. The promised dessert - rum raisin affogato - was subbed out for cheesecake. The sauce on the latter was watery. We paid in advance. There should have been no substitutions. The site suggests 'smart casual' attire. One of the servers - not ours - was wearing blue jeans. At least they should have been black. Our server, Evelina, was fantastic and very attentive. With the major dollars invested, what this historical structure (Hotel Du Pont) and means to our state and the 5 star Michelin-rich tradition of the venue itself, cannot recommend.
Food was cold no flavor... eggplant limited seasoning beef had lots of fat lobster served cold...the servers were great martini needed to be returned drinks horrid!
I have been a life long fan of the Hotel. It’s beautiful and a Gem in old Wilmington. I applaud the effort to update the dining room. Christmas dinner was very impressive. Every course was delicious. Unfortunately. I felt the service was a little off. The dinner was very heavy. And the cost was not representative of the quality. I know it’s a difficult transition but I hope in the future it will come up to the old standards x
Always loved the Green Room. It was such a special place to go to dine. It was going downhill though the last couple years so we were hoping the sprucing up and menu changes might be just what was needed to bring it back to the high standards we had previously experienced there. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. Everything was just average not special. And for the prices they charge it just wasn’t worth it at all. Maybe they were off their game since it was Christmas Eve and with all the Covid restrictions but we won’t be in a hurry to go back.
Food was barely okay. Service was poor for a $200+ meal. A 20% gratuity was added in for a party of two?
Excellent food and service. would highly recommend it.
All employees (one person took order and checked table regularly but different people brought food to table) were helpful, friendly, and professional.
Felt that the music was a bit loud for the room - low attendance due to COVID spacing.
Zero holiday decorations (we were there on 12/24); restaurant part of hotel whose lobby had traditional holiday decorations so restaurant seemed very stark by comparison.
Very tasty traditional French fare. Couldn’t finish either starter or entree and were able to take leftovers home. Food arrived at appropriate intervals. Substantial wine menu.
Plan to return in warmer weather to try outdoor seating and lunch menu.
Incredible food, service and value for their prix fixe Christmas Eve dinner. It was so nice to have somewhere special to go over the holidays. Hoping to make it an annual tradition.
Loved the brunch. From the food to the champagne
I have to say I was disappointed in our experience. We went (same two couples) in September when Le Cav first opened and we have the best experience... literally nothing negative to say. Today, we were looking forward to attending their brunch and I can’t say it was an overly good experience. Drinks took way too long to make it to the table (if they didn’t take this long we would have ordered another round or two...but the bar tender was chatting way too lunch with the 3 people at her bar, I underhand you have to be friendly but you are also making drinks for the entire restaurant ) the food was brought out fine but when the waffle order came out, the waffle was over cooked (burnt in some places), not a full circle waffle and the sauce that you were to pour over it followed 10 minutes later, by then the waffle was cold. I hate that I’m giving them a bad review but for the price that we are paying the service should be near perfect. I hope once COVID regulations are lessened they’ll be able to bring back the Le Cav we loved in September, until then... we won’t be dining there.
Nice but bad service , no flow and all
Over the place ..... need to step it up
Outside brunch was lovely! Food was amazing. A true gem.
Beautiful dining room with excellent service. Every item we had was presented perfectly and tasted every better.
Great Place. Sat outside and it was a perfect evening.. Great food beautiful scenary and fabulous service.
All around 5 star experience. Don’t pass on the steak frites!
The food is prepared with wonderful flavor and technique. Each dish was wonderful. Our wait staff was attentive and treated us like dear friends. The Green Room is one of the most beautiful spaces in Delaware. I am not sure I get the Mish Mosh of art that they replaced the old standards with, but my guess is it is an attempt to freshen up the place to be a little less formal. My only knock was this was my second time dining since the re-opening and both time, they were out of several signature dishes...
We had a delightful al fresco dinner at Le Cavalier. Outstanding food and service (thank you, Vincent!). We particularly enjoyed the seasonal craft cocktails from the bar a la Rob and Amira (sp?). Merci, merci pour un autre diner le plus fantastique! So happy to support the restaurant and its chic take on a classic space.
We enjoyed our dinner, the food was delicious. The service was wonderful , we were not rushed and the server was very personable.
Fantastic brunch! Really quality stuff. Definitely will return again
We sat for 10-15 minutes before we were greeted; in fact we knew someone a few tables down and they sent over shots to us (which we received) before we received water. The maitre d' greeted us first, apologized for our wait, and took our drink order. From then on the server unfortunately wasn't attentive. We definitely would have ordered more drinks, espresso and dessert but decided not to because of how delayed his service was. The food itself was very good, just disappointed with the service and attentiveness.
We really want to see this place succeed and would be willing to give it another chance, hoping it was just an off night.
Excellent server Erin. Menu was a bit limited I would have liked to have had a few more traditional French dishes to choose from. Ie escargot Brie in crote and a more traditional salad
I really like this restaurant. The space is gorgeous and the food is very good. This time I had the hens of the wood appetizer (yum) and the swordfish which was excellent. Nice wine list, too. The beer list could be expanded a bit but that’s a quibble. The only area I’d like to see Improved is the service which is a bit uneven. All in all highly recommend. Great addition to Wilmington.
This was a fun special occasion venue. The “mixologist” made a delicious drink from me based on things I like and what I was eating. We will return!
For afternoon tea $68 per person was an extremely high amount of money to pay. Some of the tea sandwiches not very good. Our server was excellent. Not sure if I will come back just due to to price.
The menu said, “Coq Au Vin”. When I told the waiter that’s what I wanted (pronouncing it correctly), he said, “What?” So, I pointed it out to him, and he said, “Oh, you mean the chicken.”
