“Le Cavalier” (pronounced: luh-KAH-vuhl-YAY) honors the deep equestrian tradition in the Brandywine River Valley.
Le Cavalier (Le Cav) is a French brasserie from Chef-Partner Tyler Akin that takes the brasserie out of Paris and transports it to Wilmington's iconic HOTEL DU PONT. Provençal fare meets North African and Middle Eastern influences in the dining room that once housed the historic Green Room. Le Cav is open for dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays with indoor and seasonal outdoor dining. Brunch available for Sundays.
The Le Cav Team is excited for you to share this unforgettable experience.

We went Saturday evening 8:45 pm reservation. Upon entering noise level was very high. We were seated in the best table in the place! That was about the best thing of the evening. Took several minutes for our server to approach us. After several minutes, we were ready to make our drink order had to wait a few more minutes. The evening was winding down so we thought service would get better. Not really, took a very long time for our drinks to be made and served with no notice from our server. We asked for bread, very good, and ordered some appetizers. Very medium I would say. taste was lacking. We ordered salads for our main course. The Caesar was covered in cheese and the top of romaine was very curly and dark. The special salad with grilled squash ,was so bland and vinaigrette did not compliment the salad and few cut figs at all. We never saw a manager to check to see how we liked our evening there. Very lacking in al areas. There are many places to now go in Wilmington that have over all better quality everything! So disappointed.
The best food and drink I've encountered in Delaware, bar none. Chef Tyler Akin and team are pushing the scene forward.
Very limited menu and wine list. Noisy due to location of the bar inside the restaurant. Trying for a more relaxed casual feeling in a formal room, but did not succeed in our opinion. The fire alarm during dinner was the icing on the cake. We were told by staff its and old building and these things happen. And besides, what bar doesn't stock Grey Goose?
Food was good, drinks were a bit of throwback with modern flare.
We enjoyed our dinner very much. The historic setting is spectacular. The Brasserie concept fits well with the space. Service was very friendly and accommodating. My chicken Provençal was excellent. My wife’s lobster was perfectly done. She found the roasted hen of woods mushrooms to have been cooked well, but suffered from too much heat in the mixture, overpowering the flavor of the mushrooms. The wine list is short, but charming.y eclectic. The Amaro list was a great find. Manager Rob engaged us in a fun discussion and put together a tasting for us. Much appreciated!
Limited menu for brunch and had to wait a while for a virgin Bloody Mary which was then comped. For such a grand eating place, I expected greater excellence in menu and service.
Food was good but the service was not more than OK, the menu is very limited and the price is relatively high so all and all OK.
Le Cavalier is a bistro reincarnation of the exquisite Green Room. Converted to a French Bistro, Le Cavalier is a more approachable dining experience than its predecessor. The Brunch menu is appropriately varied and well prepared. The brioche french toast with strawberry-rhubarb compote was very fine. Orange juice was fresh squeezed, if a little bitter. La Colombe coffee was a nice ending. We are looking forward to another visit.
Thank you for joining us for Brunch at Le Cavalier and your wonderful and detailed review! Each day we strive to grow our expertise in regards to our menu, presentation and service. I hope you join us again soon for Brunch or perhaps dinner in the near future, to see and experience our commitment to create a memorial dining experience.
A great restaurant. It is located in the old Dupont Hotel. A substantial building that opened in 1913 and which projects a feeling of historic permanence, but still on a reasonable scale. The restaurant is dark but it has an old fashion opulent elegance that reminds me of Paris. The high ceiling muffles but does not eliminate the noise. Our food was excellent. Our salad was fresh with a delicious dressing. I got the Steak Frites. It was perfectly cooked with peppercorns. I loved it but I could see where some might find it too peppery. My wife got the fish and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our desserts were excellent. The service was top-notch. The menu did not have a huge number of items but it did include a vegetarian item that seemed tempting. I highly recommend this restaurant. I suggest you request a seat by a window and pretend you are in a bygone era perhaps in Paris.
The Team at Le Cavalier thanks you for sharing your dining experience with us! We take great pride in our menu ,service, future goals and especially this grand wonderful space. We hope to see you again in the near future. Sincerely, Le Cavalier Team
Beautiful restaurant. Limited menu.
Most dishes were too salty or had too much sauce.
Something that I personally found strange is we were in a large room that piped in two different types of music from opposite sides so it resulted in musical cacophony
Molly was our waitress and she was fantastic! When the noise level got high, she offered to move us to an outdoor table. Thankfully, the bar crowd dispersed for a wedding reception and the restaurant became quieter.
Service very slow, confusion on delivery of food, small wine list, and menu lack creativity.
New restaurant getting started during a labor shortage. Food nevertheless came out quickly. French onion soup which is always too salty (even at Parc in Philly) was worthy of a Parisian bistro. Warm olive appetizer and calflower entre were also excellent. The Duck Frites was a little too meaty and chewy. After my waiter queried me about it, it was removed from my bill. The hotel and restaurant seem nicely refreshed since the last time I was at the DuPont. Highly recommended.
Beautiful setting, wonderful food, all around great place, warm and inviting.
We enjoyed the brunch--food was tasty and out of the ordinary without being weird. And Rob, the manager, is outstanding.
Food and atmosphere is worth every penny!! Our server Hillary was top tier, hands down best server we had on our trip through New England Coast!!!
First time to “The Hotel” since the closing of the Green Room. We are grateful for this relatively new Wilmington offering. Le Cavalier has an energetic vibe, offers creative cocktails and menu choices. It was encouraging to feel the buzz of the place and to see patrons still coming in after 8:00.
Wine list is very disappointing. Not sure what happened with the menu but it feels like it was made to be more of a hotel restaurant vs. great restaurant in a hotel.
I think they are still working it out. The place is gorgeous, the food has potential but not there yet, but the wine list is nonexistent. Loved being back in the “Green Room” and like the design tweaks that you’ve made, but please make this restaurant as special as it can be!!!! Definitely needs a wine list to match this Room!!!
Meal choices prepared to perfection. Did not disappoint. Having the general manager Rob come to our table to talk about the future menu expansion was a plus.
Very special place for special occasion. Very impressive interior and environment
Best branzino I’ve ever had!
Overall fell short of expectations. The wine selection was poor and food was over seasoned.
We had the most amazing drinks thanks to Rob the bar director (you need to meet him at your visit, so many perfect recommendations especially if it’s your first or second visit to Le Cav).
Hillary was also delightful. She made sure we had everything we needed all night for my birthday dinner celebration.
Overall 10 out of 10 experience. You will love the ambiance. That, combined with the dinner selections, drinks and service really make a visit here so special. I recommend a weekend brunch visit, as well.
We will return as soon as possible!
My wife and I went for our anniversary. Atmosphere is outstanding!! What a beautiful dining room with beautiful flavorful food experience.
A grand old-world dining room brought up-to-date with good design and quality materials. It recently re-opened after covid so the menu is very limited but I expect that it will expand over time. Pork chop was great - the duck frites not so good. Great bar and cocktails.
Much different from the historic Green Room but still worth a visit.
Excellent first experience. Beautiful and elegant, yet welcoming and lively. High ceilings, spacious, nice bar. Food was excellent - especially the fois gras mousse and bronzino. Long delivered terrific service - professional, helpful, friendly. Look forward to going back!
We came to Le Cavalier for Father's Day Brunch. This was our second time dining here. Our server came to the table immediately upon arrival. We ordered drinks and our entree at the same time. Within 5 minutes of ordering, before our drinks were served, our food arrived. Notifying the server that we had not received our drinks, he checked on that and informed us that the bartender was backed up and that it would be a few minutes. Our drinks arrived as we were finishing our meal. Needless to say, who wants a bloody mary or a glass of wine after brunch? The lobster omelette was just ok. My husband had had it before and it was fabulous. Our server did remove the drinks from the bill. So all in all, I not the best dining experience.
Food was excellent, cocktails were exceptional, service was just ok. Bartenders are great!! We will be back!!
They were nice and the food was very good! The bartender was ver friendly and made a great Bloody Mary!
Very limited brunch menu. Breakfast potatoes were dry and overly salted. Omelette was small. Service was good but nothing memorable.
We had an amazing Father's Day brunch here. Elegant for the adults and enough options for our two sons, 6 and 10 years old.
Just had drinks in the bar area. Love the vibe, service and imaginative cocktails from Robert!!
Food and service were outstanding. Highly recommended.
Host and the server Sean were welcoming, cordial and efficient. The new environment was complemented by the old luxury of the ceiling and walls. Loved the bar area, and the meal was excellent. The tables were (even when moved) pretty far from the table. The noise level was fun although it made it hard for quiet conversation. Overall a great time! Thanks for asking.
Excellent food and a beautiful room. The poached lobster is out of this world!
Had breakfast after our stay in the morning!
Food tasty and plentiful!
Service- Megan was great and pleasant!
Price for breakfast in a beautiful hotel was reasonable!
Would love to try their dinner one day✅
This is the third time we’ve been and the food is solid, the dining room itself is absolutely beautiful.. but the service is such a bummer. Everyone is really nice, but we have never been where we didn’t wait forever for our drinks. This past tome we ordered our cocktails and then they only brought one… it took forever for them to bring the other one. Then we ordered 2 glasses of wine to come with our appetizers and didn’t get them until our main course came out… and they only brought one. They also really rush the food coming out of the kitchen. You have no time between courses, so while you’re waiting for your drinks the next courses are coming out. Don’t get me wrong the food is delicious, but the service and bar definitely need some work.
