About this restaurant

Le Bouchon is an authentic French restaurant in NW Portland. Owners and chefs Monique and Claude Musquin have set up an especially cozy atmosphere within the dining room that's great for a date with your special someone or an intimate meal with friends and family. While you're in Le Bouchon you can try a variety of delicately cooked French meals, such as the juicy lamb shanks or the Demi-oulet Grand Mére (a half chicken cooked with red wine, onions, bacon and mushrooms). All entrées at Le Bouchon are served with complementary bread and butter. If you want to add a bit more authentic flavor to your meal, you can order a French vintage wine or a brewed beer from the fully stocked bar. Special orders for popular French cuisine, such as the Soufflé au Chocolat, should be ordered 48 hours ahead of time to guarantee preparation time.

Great food, quite authentic. Lovely meal. Only downside was that I ordered a bottle of St. Emilion and the waiter brought a burgundy. First, I rejected it as it was not the vintage on the label. She said it was the only vintage they had, so I requested again the St. Emilion and she brought the burgundy. I neglected to examine the label in detail until after she opened it. While she offered to exchange the bottle, I declined, as I felt it was my error not to ensure the label matched what I ordered.

I've been going to this restaurant on occasion for 10 plus years. The food is classic French and just wonderful. It's really a shame that it isn't busier. I've never tried anything at le Bouchon that I didn't love. Seriously people, check this place out.

I've been here a few times, and the food is always outstanding. I grew up on the border of France and Germany, and the French onion soup and Escargot paired with the classic bistro ambiance always makes me nostalgic. The ribeye was the best I've ever tasted--medium rare was perfectly executed. Likewise, the duck confit is fantastic.

I was excited to experience a French restaurant in Portland! I travel extensively, so I enjoy good food with my family when I am home. I read the reviews on Le Bouchon, had perused their menu, and was looking forward to a great experience. My first clue that it may be less than expected was when I noticed as we entered the restaurant at 7PM on a Saturday night that it wasn’t packed. The 2nd clue was when we were served French bread that was equal to the quality of something you would purchase from a Safeway bakery. Third clue was that the butter was served in packets. I would expect something more upscale from a French restaurant that is moderately priced. My niece had the pork. She said it was delicious. My nephew and I both had the chicken. It was very watery and the texture was tough/rubbery. Our potatoes were lukewarm at best. The only thing that was truly hot was the plate itself, and the vegetables. My nephew ate his, so we didn’t complain about his, but I took a bite or two and was going to send it back. The server did not return to the table until my niece and nephew had finished their meals. (Side note: I want to be fair to her. I have a feeling she was either new, or completely swamped. She was very sweet.) I told her my meal was not up to par, and she apologized, and took it back to the chef. A few minutes later she came back and let me know they would take it off my bill. Even so, it was a $76 lesson (before tip) to learn that Le Bouchon is a very disappointing experience. I work in hospitality management, so I always want to be fair, but honest in my reviews. I would like to think we caught them on an “off” night, but some of the other clues I mentioned above tell me this may be a has-been that has gone downhill.

great food, tight spaces, good service. The host did not even ask our name for our reservation, just seated us.

Go to a bustling restaurant area, the Pearl District, and step away from the crowds for a distinctive French cafe. All the stalwarts are ready for enjoying, Coquille St. Jacques, onion soup, Bouillabaisse, and of, course, a tarte tatin. Enjoy, we did. It's a small restaurant in an unpretentious setting, but the food transports you to a sidewalk cafe in Paris. Very pleasing.

We were greeted and seated immediately in this casual and intimate dining room, and enjoyed appetizers of escargot, and muscles, as well as the Romaine salad with Roguefort cheese. I enjoyed the fish of the day, which was Red snapper in a delightful sauce with scalloped potatoes. I could have licked the plate when done! Others in our party enjoyed the roasted duck, cooked to perfection, and the lamb shanks on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes, also with a delicate and flavorful sauce. The desserts did not disappoint either, the Chocolate Mousse being my favorite by far. You should get a reservation as this place gets packed as the evening goes on. The only con we had was they seemed to be short on servers as the tables filled up. This was not an issue for us as we were celebrating a birthday, and we were there to spend as much time as possible. The little restaurant is very small and quaint. It is not fancy or pretentious. The price of their food is excellent and the taste will far exceed your expectations! This will continue to be one of our favorite eats in Portland.

Our Friday night dinner brought us back to evenings in Paris. Cute, intimate, filled with wonderful soft French music that brought back memories. While we listened to Maurice Chevalier and sipped some reasonably priced French wine, we were transported back in time. Our food was spot on as was the service. If you want a truly French meal experience here in Portland, go to Le Bouchon.

We went here for New Years Eve. They offered a prix fixe menu for $58 plus drinks. Restaurant was cold, but the service was warm. The food was fine but nothing special. We enjoyed a couple items particularly the entree beef, but had higher expectations for the cost. The wine (by the glass) was mediocre. This is a traditional restaurant with decent fare and atmosphere but can't say I was impressed.

The bouillabaisse was very tasty. The service was nice and attentive. The owner is French and the server greeted us in French; it's a nice touch especially for those who speak French. An overall positive experience.
